Stepping back in time in Shirakawago
Visiting Wada House in Shirakawago is like stepping back in time! It's this gassho-zukuri farmhouse that was turned into a museum about the rural life in that village. If you love Japanese culture and history, you’ve got to visit Shirakawago.
I gotta tell you, the village looks straight outta a fairytale. The roof is covered in thatched straw and the wooden beams are sturdy. Inside, you'll find all these cool old artifacts and antique furniture from the Wada family. It's like they froze time!
But wait, it gets better. The surroundings are so stunning! Imagine going there in winter when everything's covered in fluffy white snow. It's like a dreamland. I visited in May, so it was all green, but the village still looked beautiful nevertheless.
If you're into history or just wanna escape the city chaos, you gotta check out the Shirakawago Wada House. It's a chill spot to soak up some Japanese rural vibes and appreciate the pure beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage gem.

A visit to Shirakawa-go in Spring
#wecreate
A UNESCO World Heritage site in Gifu, Japan, the Japanese village is known for their traditional Gassho-zukuri houses amidst the mountains and greenery and the traditional rural village feel. A total of over 100 of such houses are in the Ogimachi village and many of the houses are still lived by the locals, and some converted to restaurants, cafes, and souvenir stores. Do leave at least around 2 to 3 hours to walk around the village, including visiting the Ogimachi Observatory for a view of the village.

This is the Shirakawa-go village in Gifu prefecture, a world heritage site. It takes a little over an hour to travel from Kanazawa station by bus. You can alternatively travel by bus from Takayama or Toyama. You can stay overnight in a guest house and enjoy the peacefulness and calmness of this little town. It is better to go early to avoid the crowd. It just looks a beautiful little town from a book 😍
Step into the world of Japanese fairy tales
Shirakawa-go, a place that seems to have detached from reality and remains in a fairy tale world. The gassho-style houses here become even more mysterious in the winter snow, as if time has stopped in this place. Each season, Shirakawa-go displays a different charm, with cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, fiery red maple leaves in autumn, and snowy landscapes in winter, each scene like a carefully arranged painting.
In autumn, we can stroll along the paths paved with maple leaves, feeling the tranquility and beauty. Shirakawa-go is not just a tourist attraction; it is also an attitude towards life, a way of living in harmony with nature. For photography enthusiasts, this place is undoubtedly a paradise, where every corner hides a surprise, waiting to be discovered.
Of course, when it comes to Shirakawa-go, one must not miss the winter snowscapes. The snow-covered gassho-style houses are like castles from a fairy tale, making one eager to explore the stories within. Shirakawago, a breathtaking village in Gifu 🏘️
Shirakawago is a traditional village located in Gifu prefecture, Japan. I visited during Christmas time in December 2022 and it turned out one of the best experiences! The whole village is covered with snow and it’s soooo beautiful! ❄️☃️ the area is not too big so you can walk around easily and moreover, if you have time you can walk up the hill to see the village from above as well. You will be impressed with the view.
Getting here can be by bus from Takayama. Enjoy!!!#shirakawago #gifu #japan
