No doubt, this church will amaze you!
No doubt, this church will amaze you!
It only took me 1 hour and 6 minutes to drive from downtown Moscow to Patriot Park yesterday (I plan to write a detailed guide for you soon, including opening hours, how to get there, ticket types, etc.)
But today, let's talk about the church first!
◆ The church is only 4 years old and was built on May 9, 2020, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Russian army's victory over German fascism, so its official name is "Cathedral of the Russian Armed Forces."
◇ This is the only Orthodox church in the world with a national armed forces theme.
◆ The church is really magnificent, with a height of 95 meters, a dome diameter of 19.5 meters, a bell tower height of 75 meters, and a capacity of 6,000 people.
◆ Located in the suburbs of Moscow (southwest of Moscow, 57 kilometers from downtown Moscow), see Figure 12.
◆ The church was built very quickly (only 20 months, from September 2018 to April 2020) (so the saying about Russian procrastination is not true)
In addition to government investment, local residents also donated 3 billion rubles (about 300 million yuan at the exchange rate at the time) to build the church.
Opening hours: 08:00–21:00 daily
Free of charge, in addition to the church, I highly recommend visiting the "Road of Memory 1418" museum next door (also free, with a comprehensive introduction to World War II), which is beautifully decorated.
You can take photos inside, but please do not use flash.
Best way to get there: Downtown Moscow - Kutuzov Street - Minsk Highway (get off the highway at the 55th kilometer)
+ Bus: Take the electric train from Belorussky Station to Golitsyno Station or Kubin
