Oban’s Coliseum!!!
Attraction name: McCaig’s Tower
Location: Oban, west of Scotland
Oban is a superb little town situated a few hours west of Glasgow. There are some gorgeous views of the ocean and many of the buildings sit on a hill.
The highlight is McCaig’s Tower…it sits on the highest point of Oban. From the tower you can enjoy sweeping view over this beautiful town. It looks like a mini Coliseum!

McCaig's Tower & Battery Hill
McCaig's Tower & Battery Hill is a popular tourist site in Oban. My friend and I stayed three days there. It was about 20 minutes walk from the town centre to the McCaig's Tower & Battery Hill. It was a amazing place to spend your half day there. The tower can be dated back to 1897. You can seat on the grass or bench and enjoy the panorama of Oban Bay. It was totally fantastic!!

Oban, located on the west coast of Scotland, is renowned as the seafood capital, famous for its fresh seafood, especially shellfish and fish. The restaurants here offer a wide variety of seafood delicacies, attracting numerous tourists to come and taste.
In terms of transportation, Oban is easily accessible by train and bus, taking about three hours from Glasgow, making it very convenient. The main attractions in Oban include Oban Beach, Oban Tower, and the beautiful bay, allowing visitors to enjoy spectacular natural scenery.
Additionally, Oban is home to a famous whisky distillery, offering whisky tasting tours. I visited the distillery, learned about the whisky-making process, and tasted the unique local whisky, making Oban an ideal travel destination that combines culinary and cultural experiences.
Discover Oban and experience the charm of Scotland's coast.
💖 On the west coast of Scotland, there is a picturesque town called Oban. It is like a hidden gem, exuding unique charm, waiting for travelers to discover.
Charming natural scenery 🌅
Oban is surrounded by magnificent sea views, with the blue sky and clear sea complementing each other. Stroll along the coastline, feel the breeze, listen to the sound of the waves hitting the rocks, as if all the troubles are left behind. In the distance, the green mountains are undulating, adding a deep color to this beautiful picture. 🌊⛰️
Historic buildings 🏰
Oban has many historic buildings that have witnessed the glorious past of this town. McCaig's Tower stands on the top of the hillside. Its unique architectural style is like an ancient Roman arena. From here, you can overlook the beautiful scenery of the entire town and appreciate the unique charm of Oban. Dunstaffnage Castle 🏰 and the small church ⛪ are also not to be missed. Although there are no particularly gorgeous decorations, they exude a simple atmosphere, making people feel the precipitation of time.
Food tour 🍤
How can you miss the local food when you come to Oban? Local Shellfish Seafood Shop is a green seafood stall by the harbor. There are many kinds of seafood here, fresh and delicious, and the price is very affordable. Tasting delicious seafood and feeling the sea breeze is really a kind of enjoyment. The Pokey Hat Internet celebrity ice cream shop is not to be missed. The pink shop is very cute. There are many flavors of ice cream, comparable to traditional Italian ice cream, which can definitely satisfy your taste buds. 🍤🍦
Unique experience 🐬
In Oban, you can also participate in some unique activities. Boat watching seals is a very popular project. Buy a boat ticket to go out to sea. You can see a group of seals lazily inhabiting the rocks, which is very cute. If you want a more exciting experience, try the sightseeing plane tour. Flyscenic Scotland offers a variety of routes ✈️, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Scotland from the air and feel the shock of nature.
Traffic guide 🚌
Oban's transportation is very convenient. You can choose to take a train, car or self-driving from Glasgow and Edinburgh. Oban Airport also has flights to other cities. After arriving in Oban, you can choose to walk, ride a bicycle or take public transportation to visit the town. 🚌🚗
Best travel time 🌈
The most comfortable season in Scotland is from May to September each year, which is also the best time to visit Oban. The weather is warm and sunny at this time, which is very suitable for walking on the beach, enjoying food and participating in various activities. 🌈🌞

A person travels all over the UK—Oban (1)
🌊Oban is a seaside town in Scotland, more than three hours by train from Glasgow. Oban in summer is bustling, with a constant stream of cars on the road. The summer in Oban is full of people walking, sightseeing, and vacationing.
🌊The town of Oban itself doesn't have much to explore, but it is the gateway to many islands such as Mull, Iona, Barra, Tiree, etc. There are many activities in the visitor center near the train station: island day trips, bird watching day trips, wildlife exploration, whale watching, etc., all of which can be participated in. (Cash is used, this center does not have a POS machine for card swiping). There are also travel agencies with more in-depth professionals leading cave exploration, hiking diving and other projects, with itineraries ranging from three days to half a month.

A seaside town in the UK, Oban!
To be precise, it belongs to Scotland. Speaking of Scotland, the pure and melodious sound of bagpipes from many film and television works echoes in my ears. The seaside town, coupled with the sound of pipes, has the same effect. It is also a gathering place for Scottish seafood, and also a museum-level architectural conservation area. The circle on the top of the mountain under the drone's perspective is called McCaig's Tower, which is a hundred years old. It was not completed, and it became a relic.

An excellent experience. The staff were professional and friendly, the food was delicious, and the ambiance was exquisite! Also, the water pressure in the shower was on point and their wine and whiskey lists were respectable.
There is a spa, hikes, and several recreational activities on site. There is a gym, but it is not open early or late and has limited equipment (no free weights, limited cardio machines)
A few minor areas of complaint. The bed was a European King, that is 2 double beds pushed together... Some of the information on that online was unclear (mostly from third party sites). Also the bed was not as comfortable as I'd expect for a luxury hotel.
Additionally, be aware that the island is fairly isolated... There is taxi service to Oban, but it is best to reserve 24 hours in advance. We loved the intimacy of an isolated estate, but it does make a night on the town a bit more involved.
Overall a great location for luxe accomodations!
THE BEST SPOT FOR FOODIE
Getting There - Glasgow Buchanan bus station 🚌 Oban
We took the bus from Buchanan bus station to Oban. It took approximately 3 hours to get there.
Hotels - Oban backpackers
Food & Restaurants - Local shellfish (Green shack)
Oban is famous for its seafood and whisky. Especially for people who are doing Highlands road trip! It was my second time to Oban. The town is still lovely and lots of tourists🥰
McCaig's Tower & Battery Hill
Getting There - It took about 20 minutes from Oban city centre to the tower. At first, it was a bit steep, but after that it was getting better. It’s suitable for families to go. The view up there was amazing!!! Why not take some food and drinks there and go picnic 😋 There are grass or you can sit on the bench to enjoy the fabulous panorama of Oban harbour! Catch your late Scottish Summer!
OBAN DISTILLERY
Oban distillery is located in the town centre of Oban. If people want to book a tour, they should’ve booked it online to avoid disappointment. It is also a vision centre. You can just grab a drink and sit in there.
We got a Whisky tasting 🥃 which cost £25. There were four kinds of whisky which were produced in Oban. The tasting notes will be written on a card which let you know more about the differences.
Dunstaffnage Castle and Chapel 🏰🇬🇧
#timetotravel
Dunstaffnage Castle and Chapel, nestled on the west coast of Scotland near Oban, is a historic gem that captures the essence of Scotland's past. The castle, perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the shimmering waters of Loch Etive, exudes an aura of ancient grandeur. Its well-preserved structure and imposing battlements are a testament to centuries of history.
Exploring the chapel, one of Scotland's oldest stone-built structures, is like stepping back to a time of religious devotion and craftsmanship. The tranquil surroundings and stunning views of the loch make this site even more enchanting.
Dunstaffnage Castle and Chapel are not only a glimpse into Scotland's history but also a picturesque spot for those seeking scenic beauty and a connection to the past. It's a must-visit for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Oban...A Scottish Painting Town!
Location: Oban, the West coast of Scotland.
Getting there: Take the train from Glasgow Queen Street, Inverness or Fort William station. You could also drive there.
Oban has the McCaig tower sitting on top of the hill. This looks like the coliseum in Rome and when you stand beside it, you can see the beautiful town of Oban and the sea looking out towards the islands.
Oban also has excellent fresh sea food. Walk five minutes from the train station to find sellers with lots of crab, shrimp and scallops.
Yummy.

Oban
A lovely small town, just 3 or 4 hours bus ride from Glasgow. You can find some local shops and because it is just right next to the ocean, you can also taste some very fresh and really good seafood. It is just nice to spend on weekends, exploring nature around there and staying at a nice hotel.
