Skopje is not only the capital of the Republic of North Macedonia, Europe, but also the largest city in North Macedonia. On October 2, 2023, we visited the majestic Macedonia Square located in the center of Skopje. Around the square, apart from tall buildings, there are countless sculptures. The most important of the many sculptures is the statue of Philip II (Photo 1). He led the small country of Macedonia, which had been plagued by civil strife, to gradually accumulate strength in economy, military and other aspects, and rise in Europe. He deservedly became the national hero forever revered by the Macedonian people!

Wherever you go in Macedonia, you will for sure encounter with stray cats that are being fed by local people.

The gorgeous architecture, amazing foods, and many museums made our time there such a pleasure! 🏛️🇲🇰🍲 For a European country, Macedonia is much kinder to your wallet than Italy or France would be. Hotels are budget friendly, as are meals. 🥙🏨 The food is amazing!! My favorite so far is “chorba”, a meat soup that they eat for breakfast. But “kebapi” is a very close second. 🤭 Definitely make time for Macedonia when you’re in Europe; it’s been such a good time!

I first heard of this legendary drink in the balkans called the Rakia or Rikija from my tour guide. What confuses me greatly is how you should drink it: 1) I was told by my tour guide in Montenegro that should shoot it as in like a shot and drink it first thing in the morning..... lol. Apparently it helps in blood circulation!?!??! 2) In Tirana, my guide told me locals like to make fun of tourists by giving them a shot glass and seeing them "shoot it" because the locals there sip it! Fun fact about: 1) Apparently the alcohol content can get so high that some use it as a cleaning agent!!! 2) They taste abit like vodka to me. 3) Many people in the Balkans brew their own Rikia, if you see clear liquid in transparent coke bottles selling in local fruit market, it is likely to be rakia! cheers!
