I traveled there by bus from Skopje, a comfortable journey that took a little over three hours. The winding roads through the Macedonian countryside offered breathtaking views, making the trip feel like part of the adventure. In Ohrid, I was captivated by the serene beauty of Lake Ohrid, one of Europe’s oldest and deepest lakes. Walking along its shores was peaceful, especially near the famous Church of St. John at Kaneo, perched on a cliff with stunning panoramic views. Exploring the cobblestone streets of the old town was equally enchanting, with its traditional houses and welcoming locals. For the return, I took the train, a slower but scenic option that allowed me to enjoy more of Macedonia’s landscapes. If you’re planning the same, bring snacks and water, as facilities are limited on board. Travel tips? Wear comfortable shoes for the hilly streets, and don’t miss tasting the local trout or a fresh burek from a bakery. Ohrid’s tranquility and timeless charm made it one of the most unforgettable places I’ve visited.
