Peace and Panorama at Santuari de Montgarri
#mytraveldiary Santuari de Montgarri in Montgarri Vaqueira-Beret, Catalonia, Spain is a serene mountain retreat that feels worlds away from everyday life. Nestled in the Pyrenees, the sanctuary is surrounded by dramatic peaks, lush meadows, and crisp mountain air. The small stone chapel adds a touch of history and spirituality, creating a calm atmosphere perfect for reflection or simply enjoying the scenery.

A brief history of the church bell tower
Spanish Pyrenees Excursion ~ Lleida (Region)
Located at an altitude of 1,268 meters, at the confluence of the Garona and Ujora rivers, the village was fortified in the Middle Ages due to its strategic location. The castle once stood in the upper part of the village, where a church now stands. The heart of the old town is the Plaza Mayor, home to a beautiful 18th-century fountain.
Equally striking is the Church of St. Andrew (12th-13th centuries), whose bell tower is later, dating from the 15th century. Inside the church, you can see the "Christ of Sala do Christ," a late 12th-century Romanesque statue approximately 62 centimeters tall.
The village offers many activities, such as horseback riding, golf, swimming, hiking on many marked routes, and fishing. The traditional Feast of Santa Cruz is celebrated on May 3rd. You should also try the region's most famous dish, olla aranesa (a hearty casserole). #SeptemberDestinations2025 #Catalonia
Medieval Church Walk: A Deep Dive into Cultural Landscapes
Pyrenees Journey in Spain - Lleida (Region)
This is a Romanesque structure dating back to the 12th-13th century. Among the town's architecture, the most striking is Casa des Portolà, which has been converted into a tourist inn, the Renaissance-era Casa Paulet (16th century), and the ancient Gothic-style Sant Joan Parish Church (14th century) located on the right side of the Garonne River, across the road. To the west of the town, along the Garonne River, lies the Arties Thermal Baths, which were known since Roman times, as confirmed by numerous archaeological discoveries. Guided tours are apparently conducted every Monday to Friday at 5 PM, offering detailed explanations of the paintings, particularly the depiction of the Last Judgment near the apse. Thanks to the guide, we learned about the nearby Saint Bertrand de Comminges Cathedral. Before leaving, it is recommended to take a photo of the church and its surroundings from the cemetery. By the way, using a stroller is no problem as you can use the ramp instead of the entrance steps.

Bacqueria Ski Slopes
#fallishere Baqueira ski slopes in Spain proved to be a hidden gem, and I'm genuinely thrilled to have stumbled upon this lesser-known skiing paradise. The allure of Baqueira lies in its understated charm and the fact that it remains somewhat off the beaten path, making it an ideal retreat for those in the know.
One of the standout features is the affordability. In comparison to ski resorts in France and Italy, Baqueira offers a fantastic skiing experience without breaking the bank. This financial accessibility enhances the overall appeal and makes it a practical choice for those seeking a great winter getaway without the hefty price tag.
What sets Baqueira apart is its lack of crowds. Unlike the bustling slopes in more popular destinations, Baqueira provides a tranquil and more intimate skiing experience. The absence of long lines and crowded runs allows for a more enjoyable time on the slopes, making every run a true pleasure.
In conclusion, Baqueira ski slopes are a well-kept secret for those who appreciate the combination of affordability and a serene skiing atmosphere. If you're in search of a hidden sweet spot that delivers both value and tranquility, Baqueira is a must-visit destination that deserves its place on the skiing map.
