Nanuya Island Resort, located on Nanuya Lailai Island in the Yasawa Islands, offers just 17 guest rooms. I stayed in one of their Traditional Tree-Top Bures. The Traditional Tree-Top Bure is a wooden house with a traditional Fijian thatched roof, exuding a rustic charm that immerses you in a local, authentic atmosphere. These rooms are situated along a slope facing the sea, and mine was at the very top. The walls on three sides are covered with wooden louvers, beyond which lush greenery surrounds you, making you feel as if you're nestled in a bird's nest protected by the tropical treetops. When the windows are open, you can hear the soothing sounds of waves and birdsong up close. Beyond the terrace lies a breathtaking view of the emerald-green sea—an absolutely stunning sight. However, as this is a remote island in a developing country, the facilities are quite basic. There is no air conditioning (though the louvers allow for good airflow, so it’s not too hot, but the humidity is noticeable). WiFi is available but comes at a high cost. The shower has low water pressure, and there was no hot water at night. There are no clocks or TVs, but this fits perfectly with the way of life on this island, where you can disconnect from the world and free yourself from the constraints of time. While it may not suit those seeking the comfort of urban hotels, I highly recommend this resort to anyone looking to immerse themselves in nature and enjoy a serene getaway.

This small island, located deep within the Yasawa archipelago, boasts untouched natural beauty that makes you feel as if you've landed on a deserted island. Reaching this paradise is no easy feat. It requires a five-hour ferry ride from Fiji's main island, with only one ferry operating per day. However, the effort is well worth it, as the island's breathtaking scenery remains largely undisturbed by tourists, allowing you to have the movie's iconic setting all to yourself. The island features sparkling emerald-green waters and dazzlingly white sandy beaches so bright they can be hard to look at. The shallow waters are perfect for snorkeling, where you can spot small fish. Facing west, the beach also offers stunning sunset views that are truly unforgettable. Do note, however, that once the sun sets, the island becomes pitch dark due to the lack of streetlights, so plan accordingly.

However, Wi-Fi is expensive, so it's recommended that you purchase a SIM card or other internet connection before arriving on the island. Located five hours from the main island and the final destination of the ferry, this unexplored island is home to nothing but nature, but that's precisely why it's a paradise that only a select few can reach...
