Magome

I love this place very much!! It is very beautiful, having ancient vibes and more importantly not many tourists around. There is a wide viewing platform. The shops, even restaurants, are mostly closed by 5pm. As suggested by the hostel, I had dinner at one eatery and tried sukiyaki. It is a Japanese dish with beef, vegetables, tofu and noodles with sake in the sweet sauce. Worthy to try!

#wecreate This is at the Magome end of the Magome- Tsumago trail which is also known as the Nakasendo trail. This route runs along the Kiso Valley and connected Tokyo with Kyoto during the Edo Period. It was mostly used by merchants. It is about 8 kilometers long and takes approximately 2-3 hours to walk at a leisurely pace. However, I took around 4-5 hours to complete 🤭There are small shophouses at the magome end and nice soba~ There are some good views along the trail that you can enjoy ~

Trip to Magome, Japan 🇯🇵

It was a trip to Magome, Japan. We began our journey in the charming Magome-juku, a beautifully preserved post town along the historic Nakasendo Trail. The cobblestone streets, lined with traditional wooden 🪵 buildings, shops, and cafes ☕️ created a perfect backdrop for photos 📸 Morning light was ideal, casting soft shadows and enhancing the warm tones of the wood. I would recommend arriving early to capture the serenity before the crowds arrive and to truly immerse yourself in the tranquil atmosphere. As we walked through the main street, we came across the iconic waterwheel, a quintessential photo spot in Magome. The rustic charm of the waterwheel, combined with the sound of flowing water and the mountain views in the background, made it one of our favorite stops for photography 📸 Late morning ⛅️ provided a balanced light that was perfect for capturing the details. I would recommend taking your time here to enjoy the surroundings and experiment with different angles. We then hiked up to Magome Pass, a scenic section of the Nakasendo Trail that connects Magome to Tsumago. The lush greenery and forested paths offered endless photo opportunities 😍 especially during the golden hour when the sun filtered through the trees 🌳 creating a magical ambiance. I would highly recommend this hike for nature enthusiasts and photographers who enjoy capturing landscapes and atmospheric lighting. At the top of the village, we reached a lookout point with breathtaking views of the Kiso Valley. We visited during late afternoon, and the golden light over the valley was absolutely stunning. The changing hues of the sky ⛅️ made this spot perfect for both wide-angle shots and close-ups of the surrounding countryside. I would recommend staying here until sunset for the most picturesque moments 📸 As dusk settled, we returned to the main street, where the lanterns along the road began to glow softly. The warm lights reflecting on the cobblestones created an enchanting scene that was perfect for evening photography 🙌 We loved how the village transformed under the twilight, offering a completely different charm. A Day Trip to Eihoji Temple, Ena Gorge, Magome-juku, and Tsumago-juku

Yesterday, I joined a one-day tour from trip.com, visiting four attractions in one day: Eihoji Temple, Ena Gorge, Magome-juku, and Tsumago-juku. The itinerary for the whole day was well-organized, and everyone was punctual, so the trip went smoothly. It rained all day, sometimes heavy and sometimes light, but fortunately, I brought a raincoat. This shows that being well-prepared for travel is essential, and bringing rain gear is a must.

Starting from Nagoya, besides the Japanese national treasure Inuyama Castle, there are also two other great spots in Gifu Prefecture with an Edo period atmosphere: the mountain town streets of Magome-juku and Tsumago-juku. These places are not only fun to visit but also great for taking photos. Originally, this was part of the Nakasendo, one of the main roads during the Edo period. It was a must-travel route from Kyoto to Tokyo for both commoners and royal princesses. Due to the mountainous terrain, the winding old streets have become a unique feature. We stayed in Magome-juku for a long time because we loved it so much. If you like a place, stay a bit longer! Moreover, there are plenty of delicious foods and souvenirs on the old streets of Magome-juku. People usually combine it with Tsumago-juku, which is 7 kilometers away, for a day trip. #japantrip I went on a trip in Japan that included areas like Kanazawa, Matsumoto, and Takayama and I would say that Magome is a must go place if you are looking for the rural Japanese town experience. The atmosphere is definitely unique and it just has a feel to it that cannot be experienced at the other mountainous cities. Highly recommend! One thing though is that if you are staying the night and you want dinner, it is better to make a reservation through the hotel you are staying at as most of then close early unless you make a reservation.

#japantrip This is a very pretty spot at the top of Magome (馬籠) where you can enjoy the surrounding scenary including Mt Ena. There is a very beautiful Japanese house beside the road. There are a few free public carpark around here. It is a good place to park your car and start the trek to Tsumago, which we did, and take the local bus (4 trips a day, 800yen flat rate and can be very crowded) from Tsumago back to Magone, where you have quite a few restaurants and food choices. After filling up your tummy, take a short walk through the Magone post town and back to where you park the car.

Nakasendo Path

We start in the city of Nagoya. It is better to plan the trip early in the morning, from Nagoya Station, you will first need to take a train for a little more than an hour to Nakatsugawo Station. Then take a bus that leads to the Magome stop. The journey to the starting point of the journey will take about two hours. You need to prepare in advance by wearing comfortable trekking shoes, and take rain capes with you. Basically, everyone goes from Magome to Tsumago-jiku, but you can expand your vacation program and get to another point of Narai-juku. The walk begins with small shops, souvenirs, and cafes. Immediately there is a view of the houses in the traditional Japanese style. Everything is provided on the route, clean free toilets, there is a house in which a local resident offers to drink hot tea with sweets in a heated room for donations. There are also bells on the route that you need to ring to scare away bears. The whole way is crowned with signs where to go next, so you will definitely not get lost. In the middle of the path there are two waterfalls. So, we reach the last house. We take a bus to Nagiso Train Station, buy a ticket to Narai to go to the most luxurious view of the way, Nara-juku. This is the place that you will see in all the photos that embody this path. The place is truly unique. The train ride passes through the It lasts about an hour. It is worth noting that shops and cafes are open mainly until 16:00. It is also worth adding that the path of the nakasendo is longer than the indicated points, you can find out more about this by taking detailed guidebooks at the stations. Gifu Tour We have been to Gifu Prefecture many times, but this month we visited some Gifu attractions we have never been to before. 1-2. Ryujin Waterfall This is a waterfall with clear and beautiful water. If we go earlier, we should be able to see the red leaves. 3-7. Gero Onsen Gassho Village There are about 10 thatched houses here, you can enter them and experience the past way of life. This is a tourist attraction of Gero Onsen. 8-9. Yumori Park Campground Entrance Around 1945, there was a steam train running in this area, and it is displayed here. The autumn leaves are also beautiful.

The Nakasendo Road crosses the provinces of Musashi, Ueno, Shinano, Mino, Omi, and Yamashiro, with 69 post towns along the way, known as the Nakasendo 69 post towns. Magomejuku is one of the sixty-nine times of Nakasendo, ranking 43rd, and has retained the architectural style of the Edo period. Central Japan has always been an unpopular area for tourism. In fact, it is quite interesting to go hiking on the Nakasendo Road, and you can travel through history while walking.
