This place is close to Magome. Originally I planned to take bus to Tsumago, but the bus did not come frequently. I needed to wait for 2 hours for a bus, so finally I hiked from Magome and walked for around 3 hours to this place. The scenery along the way is beautiful, especially the waterfalls. Tsumago also has ancient vibe, has some museums and exhibition halls. Even the post office has historical displays.

Tsumago-juku ia a very small town located in the Nagiso region, which preserve a lot of architecture from the edo period of Japan.

#hospitality 📍Tateba Tea House, Nagiso Walking the Nakasendo route from Magome-juku to Tsumago-juku is one of the best experiences in Japan. Along this scenic, historic trail, the Tateba Tea House is a perfect spot to take a break. The tea house has such a warm, traditional charm, and the man running it was incredibly kind and welcoming. Anyone walking this trail will love the refreshing tea and the peaceful atmosphere. The beautiful, more than 200-year-old house, with its traditional backdrop inside and out, really added to the experience. The gentleman in traditional clothing serving tea made everyone feel right at home. We loved this tea house and the entire Nakasendo adventure—it was a beautiful, memorable stop! ‼️The tea and snacks are free, but donations are welcome to keep this lovely tradition going. #japan #100waysoftravel #japantrip

I don't know why, but once you visit Tsumago-juku in Nagano Prefecture, you'll feel at ease. I think it's because the quiet nights, the calm days, the beautiful early mornings that make you feel like you've traveled back in time, and every moment here isolates you from the hustle and bustle of the city. I especially recommend taking a walk at night. With only the sound of geta sandals clattering around, the sky is filled with stars, and a fantastic night view is right in front of you, you'll regret not coming sooner. #japantrip It was a great weather. This village was very serene after getting out from big cities. Every certain point, they had water wheels and small water fountain that makes the village more livable and tells the significance of water as a resources back in the old days. Every buildings were preserved in very well quality and makes the town vibrant and historic. All the visitors there were very polite and respectful and that makes this area more lovable for me.

The road from Magome to Tsumago is somewhat similar to the ancient roads in Zhejiang. The 8km journey ended with a casual walk of 2 hours. We walked a long way and looked at the scenery. We arrived at Tsumago and had a bowl of the village's unique soba noodles. It tasted so good. Tsumago-juku is the 42nd stop of Nakasendo (Nakasendo No. 69), located on the east bank of the Ran River in Minami-Kiso Town, Kiso-gun, Nagano Prefecture. Along with neighboring Magome-juku, the pass leading to Magome-juku is also a famous tourist spot representing Kiso Road. Both Tsumago-juku and Magome-juku retain the streetscapes of the Edo period such as short columns on beams and vertical latticework. There are also many time-honored inns, tea houses, bulletin boards, etc. It feels like I have traveled back to the Edo period.
