Sardis-🏛️ Walking Through Time in Sardis 🏛️
Visiting Sardis was like uncovering a forgotten chapter of ancient splendor. As I walked through its ruins, I was struck by how much grandeur still lingers in the stones of this once-great Lydian capital.
The highlight for me was the massive Roman gymnasium complex—its restored façade is truly impressive, with soaring columns and detailed carvings that hint at the city’s former wealth and power. Nearby, the remains of one of the oldest known synagogues outside Israel spoke volumes about Sardis’ diverse and thriving community in ancient times.
Wandering down the ancient marble-paved streets, I could almost hear the footsteps of merchants and philosophers who once walked here. With Mount Tmolus in the distance and golden sunlight warming the ruins, Sardis felt both majestic and serene.
If you’re drawn to sites where history still breathes through the landscape, Sardis is a must-see.
