Sunrise at Wat Phra That Doi Kongmu 🇹🇭
#temples
Perched atop the scenic hills of Mae Hong Son, Wat Phra That Doi Kongmu offers visitors a serene and spiritually enriching experience, particularly at sunrise. This ancient temple, distinguished by its two majestic chedis, becomes a place of profound beauty and tranquility when the first rays of the sun light up the sky.
A Haven of Peace and Spirituality
As dawn breaks over Wat Phra That Doi Kongmu, the entire complex is bathed in a gentle golden light. The temple, with its traditional Lanna architecture, provides a stunning contrast against the soft morning sky. The air is crisp and cool, filled with the sweet scent of incense and the sounds of morning prayers, creating an atmosphere that uplifts the soul.
Panoramic Views at Dawn
The vantage point from Doi Kongmu hill offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the sleepy town of Mae Hong Son below. As the sun rises, the landscape transforms with hues of orange, pink, and purple, casting a mystical glow over the mist-covered hills. This spectacular sight not only offers great photographic opportunities but also a moment of deep contemplation and renewal.
Engaging with Local Culture
Visiting Wat Phra That Doi Kongmu at sunrise allows for a unique glimpse into the daily rituals and practices of the local monks. Observing or even participating in the morning alms or meditation sessions can provide a deeper understanding of Thai Buddhist traditions and the spiritual heritage of the region.
Visitor Tips
- Early Arrival: Be sure to arrive early to catch the pre-dawn serenity and secure a good spot for sunrise viewing. The temple opens at dawn, and it’s worth getting there as the gates open.
- Dress Respectfully: Remember to wear appropriate attire to show respect in this sacred place. Shoulders and knees should be covered, and shoes removed when entering the temple buildings.
- Quiet and Respectful Behavior: Maintain a respectful silence or speak softly when on temple grounds, especially during morning prayers and meditations.

Mae Hong Son
Mae Hong Son makes for a great 3 - 4 days stay for those who are looking to explore Mae Hong Son province deeper and who enjoy a more traditional Thai way of life than those you find in Pai or Chiang Mai.
I spent a good 4 days in Mae Hong Son City during my time completing the Mae Hong Son Loop and thanks to all the tips provided by the local guest house's owner I have come to trust, here are all the best things you must do in and around Mae Hong Son City.

Amazing Route around Chiang Mai!
This route was done in 1 day! However, it gets really tiring especially with the mountainous ride.
Take a sip of tea and a bowl of hot soup noodles in Pang Mahba, dangling your feet off the air! The food was really good too.
Supposedly if you are travelling in a group, it would be great to break the itinerary into a few days, stay overnight in Ban Rak Thai, beautiful Yunan village at the border of Myanmar/China!
Oriental Gem in a hidden Thailand valley
The city name "Ban Rak Thai" is directly translated to "I love Thailand" which was hidden in a valley of Mae Hon Son province in Thailand. The city is well hidden in lush green bamboo and vegetables farm. It's recommended to access via motorbike or car if you have good skills to make it through narrow and steep corners. It's about an hour away from the capital city of Mae Hon Son.
Thing Bua Tong Fields With A View
Mae Hong Son is located west of the city of chiang mai and I believe it is too underrated. If you are someone who loves scenery, unblocked views and the sunrise and sunset you should head here. There is a small little village on top if the mountains here down south of Mae Hong Son called Thung Bua Tong where you be able to catch beautiful views of the colourful flowers being growned on the lush mountains with a backdrop view of the mountains in the background.
The best time to visit her is in the later part of the year where you be able to see the many sunflowers especially which you get to see around Thailand where some will use it as offerings for temples during the prayers. Such amazing view in a rural area in Thailand.

The Village Of Mae Hong Son
Mae Hong Son is a village located on the west side of chiang mai where also the popular village Pai is.
This is a very rural area where not much tourists visits unless you are made known about it and is someone that would like to explore the less explored places like Mae Hong Son, which is also located in the mountainous region in Chiang Mai.
The weather here is exceptionally cooling and crisp when in the morning, and if you do like trekking and the nature in the national parks, this is an ideal location for travel, not forgetting budget friendly too!

Enjoy Yunnan-style Chinese breakfast at Lee Wine Rak Thai
When talking about Rak Thai Village, everyone probably thinks of Yunnan Chinese culture. Another thing that is indispensable is having breakfast, which consists of mantou and fried noodles, which are local foods of Rak Thai Village. For those staying at Lee Wine Rak Thai, you can have breakfast at the restaurant until 10:00 a.m. The highlight here is having breakfast while viewing the beautiful reservoir. In the morning, you can see the fog on the water surface. #Ban Rak Thai #Mae Hong Son
บางปีเที่ยว บางปีไม่เที่ยว Ban Rak Thai

Traditional Scenic Thai Chinese Village
Mae Hong Son is located up north of changi mai where there is a little village called Ban Rak Thai located right at the border of Myanmar(Burma).
Getting here alone is almost impossible and I do recommend going by tour normally a small day tour group picking you up at Mae Hong Son Town. This town is a quiet peaceful town surrounding the Khuean Nai Mok Reservior, making this a very beautiful photoshot backdrop for many! And normally people come this town for 2 things, the view and the many tea tasting plantation.
Not many people are aware of such beauty in Thailand, so maybe step out of your comfort zone and travel somewhere out of the norm for once. Oh P.S, I finally also able to get to use my drone without any restrictions. Muahhahaah!!

Su Tong Pae Bridge, Mae Hong Son: The meaning of the bridge is “The wishes come true”. The bridge has been built across from the temple to the community so the minks can walk on the bridge instead of walking on the rice field. This bridge made from bamboo wood in a nice local style.

Mo Paeng Waterfall, Mae Hong Son - Thailand: Most tourists are foreigners with few locals and they love to climb up a little bit to enjoy the water up there. It is not so hard to climb up but this is not for everyone. For those who stay on the ground, they can still enjoy the view with water there as well.

Hey, you said that Chiang Mai, Bangkok is getting tired? Amway, a small travel destination: Mae Hong Son, confirming the eyes, is a place worth visiting.
Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu is a very famous local temple, 1,500 meters above sea level. This height can overlook the entire Mae Hong Son, even the lift of the plane can be seen clearly. And there is a particularly good place to take pictures in front of Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu. Figure 6 is not the feeling of hanging in the air! I really like this photo. Here, even if you just find a green plant to use as a background, it is also a big movie in minutes.
