Bookstore in the vaults of a medieval church!
Imagine walking into a medieval church and instead of the usual thing, you ended up surrounded by thousands of books in Dutch and English, well this is the Dominicanen bookshop in the heart of Maastricht in the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Well, this became one of my favorite bookshops that I visited in 2019 during that trip to Europe and it has been in my memory ever since, so I recommend it to anyone who is visiting the city.

Maastricht: oldest city in Holland
Some people say Nijmegen is the oldest city in Holland, others say its Maastricht. Regardless of that, everyone agrees Maastricht is the most beautiful place in the Netherlands. If you're in Holland you really should pay a visit.
Walking through the small but cozy city centre you almost don't know where to look. There are old buildings everywhere, bridges, churches, cathedrals and the old city walls that used to protect the city.
The Vrijthof square is a favourite location to sit outside with a drink at one of the many bars and just watch the day go by. While you're there have a look inside the 800 year old St Servaas cathedral.
When it comes to food, you will be spoilt for choice, especially for restaurants with a strong French influence. One great place is Harry's near the central train station, which was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

Trip to Maastricht 🇩🇪
It was a weekend getaway to Maastricht, Germany. We started our day in Maastricht by visiting the Vrijthof, the city's most famous square. Surrounded by historical buildings, including the stunning St. Servatius Basilica and St. John's Church with its distinctive red tower, we wandered around, soaking up the lively atmosphere. The square is a great spot to grab a coffee and people-watch 🙌🙌🙌
📍Vrijthof, 6211 LE Maastricht, Netherlands*
We also walked along the Maasboulevard by the river. The view of the Maas River at sunset 🌅 is breathtaking, and it was the perfect way to wind down before dinner.
📍Maasboulevard, 6211 JW Maastricht, Netherlands*
We also visited Natural History Museum Maastricht. We explored its fascinating collection of fossils, including the famous Mosasaur skeleton. It's a great spot for anyone interested in natural history.

📍De Bosquetplein 7, 6211 KJ Maastricht, Netherlands*
We walked to Helpoort, the oldest surviving city gate in the Netherlands. We climbed to the top for a view over the old city walls and imagined what life would have been like during medieval times. Nearby, we found the lovely Jekerkwartier, a district with narrow cobbled streets, historic buildings, and small boutiques. We enjoyed wandering through its quaint alleys and discovering unique shops 🏬
📍Sint Bernardusstraat 24B, 6211 HL Maastricht, Netherlands*
We tried a restaurant, Café Sjiek and ordered the Maastrichtse Ragout (a local meat pie)🥧 . The pastry was flaky, and the filling was flavorful, a perfect choice! 💯💯💯
💰€16
📍Sint Pieterstraat 13, 6211 JM Maastricht, Netherlands
We also explored the St. Pietersberg Caves. These limestone caves are filled with a network of tunnels created by centuries of mining. Our guide shared fascinating stories about their use as a refuge during wars, and we were impressed by the wall carvings left by miners.
💰 €12
📍Luikerweg 71, 6212 NH Maastricht, Netherlands*
We then ended our trip with dinner at Harry’s, a stylish restaurant located in the Wyck district. I would recommend the three-course menu featuring seasonal ingredients.
The ambiance was cozy, the service was excellent, and every dish was beautifully presented and delicious.

Maastricht Underground: A Journey Beneath the City
#myhiddengems
Hidden beneath the historic city of Maastricht lies a fascinating network of underground tunnels and caves, dating back centuries. These limestone quarries, known as the Maastricht Underground, are a labyrinth of mysterious passageways and a testament to the city’s rich history. Exploring these caves offers a unique and slightly eerie experience, as you discover centuries-old inscriptions, artwork, and even remnants of wartime bunkers. This hidden gem is perfect for adventurous souls seeking to uncover a secret world that lies just beneath their feet.
A well curated musuem
#museums
While Maastricht was already starting to feel somewhat offbeat. It came as a refreshing change from Amsterdam. The day trip was more about strolling around. There is a nice promenade and the weather was pleasant. In doing so, I came across the museum unplanned.
The structure looked fascinating from the outside. I decided to give it a go. Turns out it is a very well curated museum. It has a diverse range of art from middle ages to more modern and contemporary exhibitions. The lights were well placed and items well labelled. Plenty to read and absorb.
The lockers were free and good thing there was a cafe too. Just in time for a snack and a cup of coffee. Several works of art are on sale too in the museum store with prices not bad at all.

A City like a Museum
Maastricht is such a beautiful and compact city. It has so many things to see and the people are very friendly. The whole town center is a museum. We enjoyed the Markt, the Vrijthof, the, Onze Lieve Plein, the Helpoort, Old City walls, Bishop’s Mill, Aldenhof Park and the Maas River.
Right at the start of the trip we went to the Bishop’s and bought Plum Vlaai, chocolate chip cookies and waffles. There is no better way or motivation to start your trip in this manner. Lots of narrow cobblestone streets fronted by higher end boutique-ish stores - too many for the population to support so I asked questions and was generally told that Maastricht is a shopping destination for the Dutch and other Europeans, largely for atmospheric reasons. Nice bars & cafes. Lots of shopping to be done and a very small walkable picturesque centre. Maastricht has something for everyone!

Buy a copy of 'The Art of War' at the Paradise Bookstore in the Netherlands
From Trier in Germany to Maastricht in the Netherlands, one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, located in the southeast of the Netherlands, on the banks of the Maas River, it was occupied by France and Belgium in the 18th century, and belonged to the Netherlands in 1830. The landmark of the town is the St. Servatius Church, which is also the tallest building in the city. As the oldest church in the Netherlands, it was built in the 6th century AD. St. Servatius was the first archbishop of the Netherlands and was buried here in 384 AD. The church still preserves many relics of St. Servatius himself, and there is a bronze statue of him in the backyard.
Maastricht also has a business card - the Paradise Bookstore, which was transformed from the Dominican Church with a history of 800 years. The bookstore combines modern elements with Gothic architecture and uses the solemn atmosphere of the church to reflect the sanctity and importance of reading. Unique and harmonious. There are books in various European languages in the bookstore. I didn't see Chinese books, but I saw the English version of 'The Art of War' and the Dutch version of 'Tao Te Ching'. We each bought a beautifully bound 'THE ART OF WAR', which is 'The Art of War', as a souvenir. The price is 20 euros, and the discount is 17.9 euros. The tourists in the bookstore come from all over the world, with different skin colors and languages, gathered in the same place, doing the same thing - reading. Books are not only the ladder of human progress, but also the bridge that connects humans together. Paradise Bookstore Maastricht Design Hotel
Maastricht masterclass
Maastricht, a picturesque city in the Netherlands, exudes charm with its cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and scenic river views. But what truly sets it apart is its vibrant carnival celebration. Each year, locals and visitors alike come together in a riot of color and joy, as parades wind through the streets and festive music fills the air. The carnival's infectious energy fosters a sense of unity and community spirit, making Maastricht even more enchanting. It's a beautiful testament to the city's rich cultural heritage and the warmth of its people.
📍 Maastricht ✈️ 🇳🇱 😎
Highly recommend place to quick visit if you are in Europe. Cheap Ryanair flights and can be booked on the day. Maastricht is known as the university city but the centre of the city have a lot of historic and interesting places to visit. Go for a boat trip and walk around the centre. There is also a famous library that like Harry Potter style and is worth to visit. #netherlands #summervacation #ryanair #europe #architecture #maastricht #weekendgetaway
Stop making noise! This is the most beautiful bookstore in the world.
selexyzdominicanen bookstore
It was named the most beautiful bookstore in the world by The Guardian in the UK, and is also known as the "Heavenly Bookstore" among tourists.
This bookstore located in the small town of Maastricht in the Netherlands was converted from a 13th-century church in 2006.
Some people say that churches and bookstores are a natural pair, because you can look up and see the faded remnants of murals on the ceiling from 700 years ago.
Bestsellers in the bookstore are placed on the lower shelves, while academic and profound books are displayed closer to "heaven".
If you are wandering in the Netherlands or some other country in Europe, don't miss it.

Dutch travel guide, once across 3 countries, Maastricht
travel to the Netherlands, generally will waste three to four days in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, if there are arrangements to go Other places to play, but if you have time, you must remember to call the Dutch Maastricht.
Maastricht is a southeastern city in the Netherlands, close to Germany and Belgium. To be precise, you are basically going to three countries.
To speak to Maastricht, the most famous here is the famous Maastricht Treaty signed here in 1991. The signing of this clause represents the EU. The official establishment of Maastricht has made this place famous, and many people will come here to see where the EU was born.
Maastricht is not a lot of people coming all the year round, so it is good to be here, and feel the different humanities in this historic city.
If you have plenty of time, it is highly recommended to have a local dish at the restaurant on the banks of the Maas River and have a good time. It is best not to order beer, the same price can drink a big cup in Belgium and Germany next door!
Phalaenopsis Manor
This manor is located near Maastricht and is a very worthwhile tropical garden with a variety of plants and animals, a group of flamingos super Spectacular.
Butterfly Manor, there are all kinds of butterflies inside, some are not afraid of life, but also directly in your hands, you can also do a scent, no special effects ~
can also Interact with various parrots and put the python on your neck, as long as you are bold enough.
Tour time
Come here, just look around and feel that 2 hours is enough. If you want to interact, it may take longer, personal recommendation Travel, stay half a day to give it here.
In the winter, the Christmas market in Maastricht, the Netherlands, will occupy the Vrijthof square in front of the town hall for a month. In addition to over 75 stalls, there is a beautiful Ferris wheel overlooking the panoramic view of Macheng and an 800-square-meter ice rink. The
market sells winter-themed gifts, art and antiques, as well as information on charities to raise funds. There is also a choir singing Christmas songs in the square, creating a warm and charming Christmas atmosphere.
The Dutch like to skate, and there is an ice rink in the Christmas market in almost every city. Manufacturers sometimes sprinkle cute Christmas dolls on the ice rink in a variety of forms.
