Lake Lugano, a famous holiday resort in the Southern Alps
#2024TravelReview
Travel through Switzerland and cross the border between Italy and Switzerland to the beautiful #LakeLugano, which has a mild Mediterranean climate and is planted with palm trees and citrus trees. It is a famous resort in the Southern Alps.
Lake Lugano is very large, with many attractions and towns to stay in. The first place we came to was the check-in landmark "I love Lugano". Next to it was the yacht pier, so we could take a boat to tour the lake. The weather was great and we could enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lake Lugano surrounded by mountains by boat.
A boat trip on the lake is the best way to appreciate the diverse beauty of Lake Lugano, such as the Morgote district, which has many beautiful mansions; the literary style of the Church of Santa Maria in Sasso, the charming fishing village of Gandria, etc.
There are many alpine lakes in the border area between Switzerland and Italy. In addition to Lake Lugano, there is also the famous #ComoLakeLake Como, which are all worth visiting.

Lugano, a Swiss border city
Lugano is a city and municipality in Switzerland and is part of the Lugano district in the canton of Ticino. It is the largest city in the canton of Ticino and in the Italian-speaking part of southern Switzerland.
The city is located at the widest part of Lake Lugano and, together with the neighboring town of Paradiso, occupies the entire Bay of Lugano. The Lugano urban area includes a larger area on both sides of the lake, with many isolated villages, and the city borders Italy to the west and east.
The Lugano region is embraced by the Alps and extends over much of the Sottocineri region, the southernmost part of the canton of Ticino and Switzerland.
Lugano can be seen from Italy on the hill directly opposite the city center and from the World Heritage Site of Mount San Ponte to the west.
Described as a market town since 984, Lugano was the subject of constant dispute between the Dukes of Como and Milan before becoming part of the old Swiss Confederation in 1513. #OverseasTravel #Alps #Switzerland #SwissTravelGuide #SwissTravel #SwissTravelGuide #Switzerlandissobeautiful #GreatPlacesinSwitzerland
A place of beauty and serenity
#celebratewithtrip
Lugano is in the Italian speaking part of Switzerland, in the gorgeous canton of Ticino.
Our experience in Lugano was walking along the waterfront into the Old Town. The views were spectacular. The Old Town of Lugano is a very intimate part of the city. There are lovely shops, restaurants and places to stay. We also visited the cathedral, which is directly across from the train station, is absolutely gorgeous, inside and out! We then explored the Lake Lugano, which is the ultimate highlight and the main attraction in Lugano. Who can resist swooning at lake views like this? Even if you never even go on the water, just looking at this gorgeous lake is better than therapy! The view here is spectacular!
The lake is surrounded by mountains perched with houses and interesting boundary of Italy and Switzerland. If you’re wondering what to see in Lugano in one day, then the lake is an absolute must. We might not spent that much time in Lugano, but I believe that there's more to see in this beautiful place. Best believe, I'm gonna come back here again in the future.

Exploring
Exploring Lugano’s lakeside vibes and hidden gems! 🌧️🌺 If you love a cozy city wrapped around a shimmering lake, Lugano delivers. From the charming Old Town and its mix of Western-style buildings (think wrought iron balconies with flowers) to lush parks and foodie spots in the city center, this Swiss town has style for days.
Top Spots to Visit:
1. Old Town Lugano—Switzerland
Stroll amid centuries-old architecture, bubbling fountains (look out for those gooseneck faucets spraying water and surrounded by flower bursts!), and cute alleyways. Lugano’s old quarter is open round the clock, and it’s still gorgeous even when cloudy or rainy.
2. Lugano Park
Ideal for outdoor cultural landscapes, chill lakeside walks, and people-watching. The green areas pop with trees and red blossoms—bring a camera!
3. Gabbani, via Pessina 12
Foodie tip: For local eats with a Western twist, grab lunch at Gabbani (right in the city center). It’s a great spot to shelter from Lugano’s unpredictable weather and savor Swiss specialties.
Local Insights & Tips:
Rainy days are common—pack a compact umbrella. Lugano’s architecture keeps things Instagram-worthy whatever the weather. Use the lakeside park as your recharge spot
Getting Around:
Public transport here is super reliable, but the best way to soak up the scenery is just on foot. Lugano’s core is walkable—enjoy hidden picturesque corners.

A Swiss guide to slow living on Lake Lugano
Between the mountains and lakes of Ticino ⛰️🌊, time seems to have been slowed down to 0.5x speed. A journey along Lake Lugano is like opening a Swiss-only edition of "Peach Blossom Spring," with unexpected little treasures hidden around every corner. ✨
📍Lugano
Address: Ticino, Switzerland
Open Hours: 24/7 for stunning views.
As I boarded the boat from Lugano's pier early in the morning, the lake was still shrouded in a hazy, ethereal atmosphere. This thousand-year-old town, founded in the 6th century, perfectly blends the romance of Italian arcades with the sophistication of Swiss architecture, capturing the essence of both countries in a lakeside fairytale. 🏰
🌈Must-see moment:
As the boat slowly sails towards Morcote 🛳️, capture the palm trees and snow-capped mountains juxtaposed against each other on both sides. 🌴❄️—this is a truly magical combination unique to the Swiss-Italian border! We recommend a window seat; the view from the front row is even more photogenic. 📸
[A Dreamlike Journey Here]
📍Parco Scherrer Gardens
Address: Riva di Pilastri 20, 6922 Morcote
Opening Hours: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Admission: Approximately CHF 12/person
This is like a fairytale theater suddenly appearing before your eyes! 🎭 This enchanting botanical garden, built in the 1930s, features a fusion of Greek colonnades and Southeast Asian pagodas, creating a stunning Instagram-worthy backdrop. Wear a light-colored long skirt and take a spinning video under the dappled shade of the trees. You'll be like a fairy! 🧚♀️
📍Alpe Vicania
Address: 6921 Vico Morcote
Open year-round. This is a locals' secret picnic spot! 🧺 Grab some Swiss handmade chocolates and sparkling wine 🥂 and enjoy a romantic "Love at Sunset" moment on a grassy slope with panoramic views of the entire lake area 🌄
💡Travel Tips:
✔️Tulips are at their most beautiful from April to June
✔️For boat trips, it's recommended to buy a one-way ticket and walk back.
✔️Must-haves: Sunglasses, sunscreen, and comfortable flat shoes

🌄Monte Brè in Lugano, Switzerland overlooking the lake and mountains | A niche but stunning travel destination!
Besides Zurich and Interlaken, Switzerland 🇨🇭 also boasts an underrated city: Lugano. Home to the unrealistically blue Lake Lugano 💙 and charming Italian-style streets and alleys 🇮🇹, it's a place where you can truly slow down and enjoy your travels.
🚡 A must-do is to climb Monte Brè or Monte San Salvatore! From the summit, Lake Lugano nestles like an emerald 💎 nestled among the mountains, its red-tiled roofs blending with the blue sky and white clouds into a dreamlike canvas. Visit in the evening, when the sunset paints the entire city a golden hue, creating a truly romantic experience 🌅.
☕ The city center also has a chill atmosphere: lakeside cafes, boutique shops, and leisurely promenades—just stroll along and you'll immerse yourself in the relaxed atmosphere of southern Europe. If you're looking for a trip that combines both beautiful scenery and a sense of life, Lugano will definitely not disappoint!

Review of Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola in Lugano
This hotel is absolutely stunning, both during the day and at night. Each floor has its own unique color scheme and design, making every level distinct and beautifully decorated.
Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola in Lugano, Switzerland
This hotel has a history of 140 years and is owned by an old and established family.
I stayed for a week in a Junior Suite and utilized all the services, from dining at every restaurant to laundry services.
Location - Excellent. It’s a 10-15 minute walk to the city center through a lakeside park by Lake Lugano. The area is peaceful and exclusive.
Suite - The room is old but of very high quality. It’s spacious at 50 square meters, with a walk-in closet and breathtaking views of the garden, lake, and mountains. The room is restocked daily with fresh fruit and four liters of still and sparkling mineral water. It has everything you could need.
Facilities - This is the highlight of the hotel. There’s a two-story private lido where you can relax, swim in the lake, and enjoy a bar and lakeside facilities. Swans often glide by. The gardens are beautifully landscaped with large trees, flowers, and statues. There’s also a gym, swimming pool, and four restaurants ranging from fine dining to casual. Every day, there’s live grand piano music in the garden and lobby for three hours.
Food - Breakfast and the fine dining restaurant are excellent.
Service - Outstanding. Every staff member is exceptional.

Unbelievable Switzerland 🙌🏻
Day1: Zurich ☀️
Arrived by plane and got to the hotel by train. Stayed at the Trip Inn, next to the train station. I recommend walking along the lake embankment, taking a ferry ride on the lake, and visiting the Grossmünster church.
I really like Babu’s bakery & Coffehouse cafe.
Day2: Luzern & Gersau 🏊🏻♂️
Stayed at hotel Seehotel Schwert with beautiful view from balcony. Took boat trip to Luzern and ate the best pizza at Disco pizza.🍕
Day3: Lugano 🥹
Stayed at Ibis budget. It was very small room, but breakfast was perfect. I recommend visiting MASI museum d’art and market on the square if you came at weekends.
Day4: Bernina express and Churwalden 🚇
From Lugano we were riding on the Bernina bus to Tirano (3 hours). Had a little time to eat and sat in Bernina express. The train had a fantastic route but the seats were uncomfortable and there was very little legroom 4 hours). Came at Chur and walk around the town. Stayed at Hotel Krone Churwalden. Really liked it, also a stunning balcony with a view of the mountains.
Day5: Last day ⛰️
We rode the ski lift and the toboggan (in the morning there was a special offer: 2 rides for the price of one).
And back to Zurich by train.
📌 Tips
I highly recommend buying Swiss pass this will make moving around much easier.
