#summerdestinations This summer, I took a delightful city break in Lublin, Poland, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip. Lublin is a city full of history, charm, and a relaxed vibe that makes it perfect for a quick getaway. The Old Town is the heart of the city, with its cobblestone streets, colorful facades, and the majestic Kraków Gate, which welcomes you into this historic area. One of the first places I visited was Lublin Castle, and for just 20 PLN, I got to explore the museum inside and climb the tower for a breathtaking view of the city. The castle’s history is fascinating, and the nearby Holy Trinity Chapel, with its stunning frescoes, is an absolute must-see. After that, I strolled through the Old Town, stopping at the Market Square where I found some charming cafes and tried some delicious local pierogi. The city is also home to some incredible street art and a vibrant cultural scene. I checked out the Lublin Open Air Village Museum just outside the city, which gave me a glimpse into traditional Polish life. The entrance fee was 15 PLN, and it was worth every penny. Walking through the peaceful village was like stepping back in time. In the evenings, Lublin’s Old Town comes alive with music and laughter, as locals and tourists alike enjoy the many restaurants and bars. It’s a city that blends the old and the new so effortlessly. Museum of the History of Pharmacy in Lublin - a museum located in Lublin. The facility is located in a historic pharmacy at ul. Grodzka 5a in Lublin's Old Town and is run by the company PZF "Cefarm - Lublin". The facility was established in 1975 as the Historical Hall of Pharmacy of the Lublin Region with its registered office at ul. Mieszko I. However, due to its location, it was not popular among visitors, so a decision was made to move the collection. In the years 1983–1988, the exhibition was located in the building at Bramowa street, and since 1988 its seat has been a pharmacy at Grodzka street. Currently, the museum occupies two rooms. In the first one, former pharmacy furniture is exhibited with a collection of historical pharmaceutical glass (bottles, jars) and pharmacy tools. On the other hand, in the second one (laboratory and warehouse) there is a collection of documents (prescriptions, labels) and a rich collection of scales. The museum is a year-round facility, open from Tuesday to Friday. Admission is free. #poland #museum

State Museum at Majdanek - German Nazi Concentration and Death Camp (1941-1944) - a martyrdom museum established in 1944 on the site of the former Nazi concentration camp KL Lublin. It is an institution reporting directly to the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The museum conducts exhibition, educational and scientific activities. Since 2004, a branch of the PMM has been the Museum - Memorial Site in Bełżec, and since 2012 - the Museum of the Former Death Camp in Sobibór. The museum is organized on a part of the former camp (about 90 ha). Among its most important monuments is the partly preserved utility part, field III of the prisoner camp, bathhouse buildings with gas chambers, buildings of the "new" and "old" crematorium. The area of the memorial site also includes the Monument to Struggle and Martyrdom at Majdanek by Wiktor Tołkin. The post-camp archives and collection of museum exhibits are particularly rich. On the premises of the Museum, a permanent main exhibition is installed and temporary exhibitions are organized. From June 29, 2018, the full name of the institution is “The State Museum at Majdanek. German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp (1941-1944). On the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Majdanek, a monumental monument dedicated to the victims of Nazism, designed by arch. Wiktor Tołkin. The monument consists of two main parts: a gate-monument and a large mausoleum containing human ashes from the camp grounds. The museum also takes care of a large archive remaining from the SS administration and a collection of museum objects. On July 23, 1999, the artistic installation "Shrine" by Tadeusz Myslowski was opened in barracks 47. The installation is a tribute to the nameless victims of Majdanek. It consists of sculptural, graphic and verbal-musical elements. The central element is a spatial composition of spherical solids made of barbed wire. The whole is closed with a graphic composition referring to the iconostasis. In front of it is the symbolic "Book of Hourglasses" with the names of the 52 nationalities of the camp prisoners. The whole is complemented by music composed by Zbigniew Bargielski, intertwined with the sound of prayers in Hebrew, Old Church and Polish. #poland #museum

These are: an archaeological exhibition, an exhibition of coins and medals from the 10th to the 20th century, folk art of the Lublin region, a gallery of Polish painting from the 17th to the 20th century (including "Unia Lubelska" by Jan Matejko), as well as foreign painting from the 17th century to the 19th century (including "Pilate Washing His Hands" by Hendrick ter Brugghen). The armaments exhibition presents militaria in a time section from the Middle Ages to World War II, and the gallery of decorative arts presents silverware, ceramics, clocks, furniture and fabrics. The name of the tower comes from the order of oo. Trinitarians who stayed in the post-Jesuit monastery buildings located near the tower. Currently, it houses the Archdiocese Museum. The Trinitarian Tower in Lublin, also known as the Trinitarian Gate, is part of the buildings of the Jesuit college. At first it was just a monastery gate. The entrance to the cathedral or school led through the gate. In 1627 it was raised and used as a belfry. After the dissolution of the Jesuit order, it passed into the hands of the Trinitarians. Although the building briefly belonged to the monks, from then on it began to be called the Trinitarian Tower. The Trinitarians, however, were a poor order. The buildings in the monastery complex began to deteriorate and needed renovation. In 1818, the city became the next owner of the building. In the 19th century, the Trynitarska Tower and the cathedral were rebuilt. Antonio Corazzi designed it in the Neo-Gothic style. It was severely damaged during World War II and rebuilt in 1945–1952. Currently, the Archdiocesan Museum is located here. The museum's collection includes religious items, paintings, icons, sculptures, fabrics, sarcophagi, musical instruments, candlesticks, a coffin portrait and other historic equipment. Since the tower is the belfry of the Lublin archcathedral, you can see 4 bells here: Michał, moved from the Lublin parish church, and the largest bell in Lublin, Maria, which sounds during special ceremonies. The second floor is a cross-section through the history of the city from the location to the 17th century - archives, fragments of the oldest municipal water supply system, Lublin Renaissance tiles and the Trybunalski Cross from the 17th century. Third floor - the history of Lublin from the 17th to the 19th century is shown here, and the exhibits include: a 17th-century painting on the wall depicting St. Tekla (moved from a tenement house in the Old Town), 18th-century tiled clocks, symbolic city keys, memorabilia of the November and January Uprisings, paintings of Lublin from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The fourth floor is an illustration of the history of Lublin in the 19th and 20th centuries. It consists of portraits of famous Lubliners, advertisements of Lublin companies from the 19th and 20th centuries, a clock mechanism from 1903, photographs from the First World War, and exhibits related to education. The history of World War II is introduced by: secret messages, Kennkarte, items made by prisoners of the Lublin Castle. The Museum of the Lublin Countryside in Lublin is an open-air museum, where there are monuments of wooden and brick architecture as well as ethnographic collections from the area of the former Lublin Voivodeship, entered into the National Register of Museums. Due to the collected animals, which come from different countries and are clearly diverse in terms of physical and ethnographic aspects, the open-air museum exhibition has been divided into seven sectors: the Lublin Upland, Roztocze, Powiśle Lubelskie, Podlasie, Nadbuż, and the manor and town sectors. In the section of the Lubelska Upland there are facilities: a windmill, a smithy, an oil mill, a chapel, a well, an aviary, a detached cottage and four peasant homesteads. In the Roztocze sector you can see: a forge, a beer house, an Orthodox church with a bell and a small cementary lapidarium, two chapels, five homesteads and two detached cottages. In the courtly state there are: two manors, fours, two granaries, a gate, a circle and two figures. Town sector to: a church with a bell tower, a cemetery lapidarium with a gate, a figure, a circular, a parsonage, a parsonage granary, a dovecote and a well. The Powiśle sector includes: two chapels, an oak trunk with a cross, six homesteads, two hay racks and a sack, in the heart of which the museum office is located. There is a fire station in Podlasie.
