【Laos】Solo Female Travel in Luang Prabang
Highly recommended for solo female travelers!
Luang Prabang, Laos
【Advantages】
- The city is small and can be explored by rental bicycle
- The entire town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Abundant nature
- Beautiful use of colors in traditional clothing and cityscapes
- Calm and gentle national character
- Affordable and delicious French cuisine
- A paper map is sufficient, allowing for a digital detox
【Disadvantages】
- Budget accommodations may have hygiene issues

Overall, I highly recommend it! It's incredibly easy to get around, and you can take your time exploring at a relaxed pace. Watching the sunrise from Mount Phousi was truly moving 😭

Wat Xieng Thong – Laos
#holidayitinerary
Wat Xieng Thong is Luang Prabang’s crown jewel — a temple with low, sweeping roofs that almost touch the ground, as if bowing in respect to the faithful. The gold stenciling and intricate mosaics show craftsmanship honed over generations. This isn’t just for show — it’s a spiritual hub that has hosted coronations and important Buddhist ceremonies. Walking here feels like being invited into the most dignified hall in the kingdom. #holidayitinerary

Luang Prabang Royal Palace Museum – Laos
#holidayitinerary
The Royal Palace Museum is a blend of royal prestige and quiet authority. Once home to the Lao monarchy, its French colonial-meets-traditional Lao architecture makes it stand out without being flashy. Inside, you walk through halls filled with royal regalia, historic photographs, and sacred artifacts, all telling the story of a nation that has balanced diplomacy and cultural pride. The palace grounds are immaculate, a reflection of the discipline that comes with leadership. #holidayitinerary

Luang Prabang’s Old Town: A Living Heritage
Luang Prabang’s Old Town is where Laos’ soul shines brightest. Set on a peninsula between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, this UNESCO World Heritage Site blends golden temples, French colonial villas, and quiet lanes shaded by frangipani trees.
Wander at dawn to witness saffron-robed monks collecting alms, then explore treasures like Wat Xiengthong, the Royal Palace Museum, and the buzzing night market. Despite its popularity, the pace is slow and serene—ideal for walking or cycling.
Cafés, boutiques, and riverside restaurants line the streets, yet the town retains a peaceful, almost timeless charm. Old Town isn’t just the heart of Luang Prabang—it’s the heartbeat of Laos.

Discover Luang Prabang’s Timeless Jewel
Tucked at the tip of the Luang Prabang peninsula, Wat Xiengthong is the city's most iconic temple—and a must-see. Built in 1560, its sweeping rooflines, intricate gold stenciling, and the famous Tree of Life mosaic glow with quiet elegance.
Entry costs just 20,000 kip (~$1), and it's easy to reach on foot from the town center. Come early or at sunset for soft light and fewer crowds.
Unlike grand temples elsewhere, Wat Xiengthong feels intimate and alive—a graceful blend of royal history, Buddhist tradition, and artistic mastery. A peaceful step into Laos’ spiritual heart!

Kuang Si Waterfalls in the Rainy Season: Wild, Wet, Worth It
The best thing to do in Luang Prabang!
Just 45 minutes from Luang Prabang, Kuang Si transforms into a thunderous force of nature during the rainy season. The usual turquoise pools turn milky and dramatic, crashing through the jungle with untamed energy. Trails are muddy, sometimes flooded—but that only adds to the adventure. Entry is 60,000 kip (~$3), and that includes the BONUS of the bear rescue centre near the entrance.
It’s not the postcard-perfect scene you’ve seen—but if you want raw beauty, misty air, and the roar of real wilderness, Kuang Si in the rain delivers. Just wear good shoes... and expect to get muddy.

✨ Mekong Sunset Cruise – Luang Prabang
Drift along the Mekong at golden hour, just after 5 PM, aboard a traditional wooden boat or large cruiser.
You’re welcomed aboard with a refreshing drink. On some cruises, vibrant traditional Lao music and dance, can be enjoyed.
Typical price:
Around US $20–45 per person, depending on the provider. That includes drinks, snacks, entertainment, and the sunset cruise itself.
Why go?
Spectacular golden-hour river views. A sunset cruise on the Mekong in Luang Prabang is more than just a scenic river ride—it’s a gentle immersion into Lao rhythm: peaceful water, warm smiles, cultural dance, and simple local flavours. Whether you're after Instagram-worthy sunsets or a soft evening of reflection, it's an elegant and understated way to experience Laos by twilight.

Luang Prabang Hotel Recommendations | Popular Hotel MyBanLao
| The popular hotel MyBanLao. Actually, Luang Prabang offers great value for money when it comes to hotels. You can stay in a very nice hotel for just a few hundred yuan, making it a paradise for budget travelers.
After staying in the old town for two nights, we wanted to find a photogenic hotel and came across MyBanLao. It opened just a few years ago, and the environment is perfect for photos. We booked a poolside room, which costs 1,200 per night including taxes during peak season. The pool is right outside the door, and in the afternoon, it's full of kids swimming, making it a great family-friendly hotel.
Since MyBanLao is a bit far from the "Farang Street" (Sisavangvong Road), we recommend staying near the street for a few nights first, like we did. Explore the morning and night markets, watch the almsgiving ceremony, and then move to the hotel. For Farang Street, we recommend staying at 3 Nagas by MGallery. The almsgiving procession passes right by the hotel, so you don’t have to wake up early. You can also walk to major attractions from there. The hotel's restaurant is ranked among the top on TripAdvisor.
The hotel offers a pick-up service if you book two nights. There’s also a free vintage car service available daily to take you anywhere you want. We took a ride to JC Supermarket, but couldn’t reach the hotel by phone on the way back, so we took a tuk-tuk instead.
Across from the hotel, there’s a local Lao hotpot restaurant frequented by locals. It’s incredibly popular and offers more variety than the hotpot places near the old town.
Notably, the hotel’s own coffee and dessert shop is unbelievably affordable. I enthusiastically bought two cups, two drinks, and a dessert—all payable via WeChat.

There is a "glass house" in the courtyard, very beautifully decorated, many photo spots. The coffee is also delicious, good taste, and there are coffee beans for sale. I recommend it. Visit the temples in Luang Prabang, a world heritage site in Laos.
🛕Luang Prabang has many beautiful temples that tourists can visit, such as Wat Xieng Thong, Wat Mai Suwannaphumaram, Wat Visounnarat, and Wat Saensukharam. These temples represent Lan Xang architecture and have a long history.
🛵On this trip, we rented a motorbike to ride around the temples around Luang Prabang. Each temple is in the same area, so it's very easy to ride a motorcycle.
📍Recommended temples to visit:
🔺Wat Xieng Thong: One of the oldest and most beautiful temples in Luang Prabang. It has a sim (ordination hall) that reflects Lan Xang architecture in a magnificent way.
🔺Wat Mai Suwannaphumaram: It used to be the residence of Somdet Phra Sangkharat Boonthan and was previously the enshrined Phra Bang.
🔺Wat Visounnarat: Also known as Wat Phra That Mak Mo, it is one of the oldest temples in Luang Prabang. It has a round stupa that looks like a watermelon.
🔺Wat Saensukharam: It is a quiet temple with a relaxing atmosphere.
🔺Wat Phon Phao: It has a prominent golden stupa.
❇️Dress code should be polite and respectful of the place.

“U Hotel” with rooms that are fully occupied for 24 hours 🪁

☘️ Travel to Luang Prabang, worship Buddha & absorb culture in a full way. Don't worry about the check-in/check-out time. Here you can Late Check Out up to 24 hours of your stay. You just have to inform the staff in advance!
🌳 Personally, I like this special feature after staying in the "U Hotel" chain in Pattaya, Hua Hin, Chiang Mai and Bangkok because we will have time on the 2nd day before checking out. No need to rush. In Luang Prabang, we will have time to... eat papaya salad at a famous restaurant, get a Lao massage, ride a bike, visit a temple to worship Buddha or sometimes take a boat ride on the Mekong River before returning to check out at 6:00 p.m.
🧩 Large rooms, divided into houses in the Luang Prabang style. The main structure is made of polished wood, decorated in a local style but with a modern touch, whether it's a tiled bathroom, bathtub, large king-size bed, very comfortable to sleep in.

Wat Visounnarath
Wat Visoun, Luang Prabang
🙏Or simply called "Wat Visoun" in Luang Prabang, is an ancient temple that is over 500 years old. Built by King Visoun, it is famous for both its architecture and the antiques inside the temple.
🌿Phra That Mak Mo has a unique shape, an inverted circle resembling a "halved watermelon", which can only be seen here. It was built by Queen Phan Tin Chiang, the wife of King Visoun.
🙏The ordination hall is designed in the Lanna-Tai Lue Sipsongpanna architecture. The roof is multi-layered, decorated with a gable (hong) and a beautiful Khong gate arch. There is the largest principal Buddha image in Luang Prabang, along with wooden, bronze Buddha images and stone inscriptions collected from abandoned temples in the area.

Laos, Luang Prabang Accommodation! Why not stay at ?
After passing through Vientiane and Vang Vieng, the final destination is Luang Prabang! Since we had plans for activities and hiking at Nam Xay Viewpoint in Vang Vieng, we decided to enjoy a relaxing hotel stay in Luang Prabang. We were instantly captivated by the pool photos and booked a 2-night stay at Hotel!
But guess what?!
Oh my goodness, everyone! Why wouldn't you stay here?!
When you book a 2-night stay, you get amazing benefits!
- Free train station & airport pick-up/drop-off service (for stays of 2 nights or more)
We arrived by train from Vang Vieng, so we booked a pick-up from the train station and a drop-off at Luang Prabang Airport, saving on transportation costs!
- Complimentary minibar drinks in the room
Not just once, but they refill the drinks daily, and all beverages are free during your stay.
- Free shuttle service
6:30 AM ~ 4:30 PM: Available to anywhere in the city
4:30 PM ~ 10:00 PM: Night market only
For the almsgiving ceremony experience, pick-up and drop-off are available at 5:30 AM! (They take you in a charming princess-like car and pick you up afterward.)
We made full use of this service, and except for our trip to Kuang Si Waterfall, we didn’t spend a single penny on transportation during our stay in Luang Prabang. 👍👍
All the staff were incredibly friendly, and since there weren’t many guests, we could enjoy the pool as if it were exclusively ours! Breakfast was delicious, and the restaurant within the hotel offered a variety of tasty dishes at reasonable prices. It was truly a delightful stay, and we were so happy throughout our time there. 🥹✨

Kuang Si Waterfall
"Kuang Si Waterfall" or "Kuang Si Waterfall" in Luang Prabang, Laos, is a tourist attraction outside the country but not far from Thailand. It is now easy to travel to. We went at the end of July. The water flowed well. There was some light rain some days, but on the day we went to Kuang Si Waterfall, there was no rain. The weather was nice. The water was clear and cool. But there were a lot of people because we went during the holidays. The papaya salad at the entrance was very delicious. The journey was by high-speed train to Vang Vieng first. Then we rented a van to share with friends. Then we went to Luang Prabang through a newly built road. The atmosphere was very good. It was light rain. There was a view of the mountains and a sea of fog. But we became victims because we encountered a landslide. Overall, it was a worthwhile and very fun trip. #NatureTourism#trip

#RainySeasonTourism: Kuang Si Waterfall is known as the most beautiful waterfall in Luang Prabang. It has many levels, and you can hike all the way up. There are also plenty of stops along the way to admire the natural beauty. This large limestone waterfall is a stunning emerald green.
We think this is another must-see landmark in Luang Prabang. It's absolutely stunning!

Places to Visit in Luang Prabang
#citypassguide #luangprabang #laos
Luang Prabang – Travel Summary
Luang Prabang is one of the more developed cities in Laos, and due to the Chinese train line passing through, it attracts a large number of Chinese tourists. As a UNESCO World Heritage city and a key stop for both the slow boat and the China-Laos railway, it's a very popular destination among travelers. I personally liked the city. There are several waterfalls, caves, and villages to explore. One of the most iconic activities here is the early morning almsgiving ceremony with the monks around 6 AM.
Here are some of the places I visited:
Kuang Si Waterfall
You can visit this beautiful waterfall by joining a daily tour or renting a motorbike. The entrance fee is 60,000 kip. For an extra 30,000 kip, you can hike up to a scenic viewpoint and get a free soft drink. Nearby, there's also a bear rescue center you can visit. On the way to the falls, there's a buffalo farm where you can try ice cream made from buffalo milk.
Phousi Hill
A popular sunset spot with a 30,000 kip entrance fee. It gets crowded during sunset, and unfortunately, I couldn’t catch a clear view because of the cloudy weather.
UXO Lao Visitor Center
A small but powerful museum about unexploded bombs dropped during the Vietnam War. Laos is said to be the most heavily bombed country per capita, and the clearance efforts are still ongoing.
Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre
This museum offers insights into the diverse ethnic groups of Laos. Entrance is 35,000 kip.
Jungala Lounge Bar
A stylish lakeside bar with a cozy atmosphere. I visited twice and had a great time relaxing there.
Almsgiving Ceremony
The morning almsgiving ceremony starts with preparations around 5:30 AM. Monks begin their walk around 6 AM, and the ceremony ends by 6:30–7:00 AM. Visitors can either participate respectfully or simply observe.
