▶️ There are 2 types of accommodation in the park to choose from.
As for the accommodation in Doi Khun Tan National Park, there are 2 types of accommodation to choose from:
- The first type is a camping ground for pitching tents, a stargazing ground, and a pine field in the area of Y.2. There is a tent pitching fee of 30 baht per person. If renting a tent from the park, the price will be 225 baht per night.
- The second type is a house. The park has 5 zones with 21 houses in total. The price is 500 baht/house/night.
▶️ There are 4 viewpoints in Doi Khuntan National Park that you must visit: the first viewpoint is located at the stargazing area, the second viewpoint is near the park's welfare restaurant, the third viewpoint is near the nature trail, the way up to Y.1-4, and the last viewpoint is Y.4 viewpoint. The best time to visit is during the end of the rainy season, beginning of the cold season.
▶️ The nature trail of Doi Khuntan National Park is divided into 4 sections: Y.1-Y.4 (Y. stands for strategic point), which is approximately 5 kilometers long and ends at Y.4 viewpoint.
From the starting point of the walk to Y.1, the path is a concrete staircase. Not too far to walk, you will reach Y.2, about 1.2 kilometers away. Along the way, there will be pavilions to rest at intervals.
From Y.2 to Y.3, the distance is about 3 kilometers. This point will be a dirt path along the edge of the mountain. The path is smooth in some places, steep in some places. Those who travel in the morning and evening to watch the sunrise should prepare lighting equipment. From Y.3 to Y.4 viewpoint, the distance is another 1 kilometer. You will pass important points such as Suan Son, a pavilion to rest on the border of the two provinces, Lamphun and Lampang, and Noen Wat Jai. Not far away, you will reach Y.4 viewpoint.
Y.4 is considered the highest strategic point of Doi Khun Tan, with an elevation of 1,373 meters above sea level. During World War II, this area was used as a place for soldiers to look for binoculars. If you stand here, you will be able to see the scenery of both provinces, Lamphun and Lampang. Come to one place and visit two provinces in one step.
Tad Muai Waterfall
This is a small waterfall located in the area of Doi Khun Tan National Park, on the Lamphun side of the province. It is a waterfall located between Y.2 and Y.3. There will be a fork to the waterfall, approximately 1,500 meters away. The way down is a path down to the Mae Yon Wai valley, where you will find the waterfall. There are 2 routes to Tad Muai Waterfall: the first route is a nature study route between the fork from Y.2 to Y.3, approximately 1,500 meters away. The second route is a route from the park office to the waterfall, approximately 3,000 meters away. It is a shortcut along the mountain, which can be used together.
▶️ Doi Khun Tan National Park restaurant is located near the viewpoint before Y.1-4. If you did not bring your own food, you can eat at the restaurant or order it back to your accommodation. There is coffee that you can drip yourself. Enjoy the view, complete drinks, no need to carry it, reasonable prices, and delicious too.
▶️ Khun Tan Tunnel is the longest railway tunnel in Thailand. It was built over a hundred years ago and is 1,300 meters long. The front of the tunnel is painted in brick red, which stands out against the green trees around it. It is even more beautiful when the train enters or exits the tunnel. If anyone travels up north by train, don't miss stopping at Khun Tan Station to take some beautiful pictures as souvenirs.
▶️ The park entrance fee is 20 baht for adults, 10 baht for children and students, and for those who bring their own vehicles, the following fees apply: 4-wheel vehicles are 30 baht each, 100 baht for 6-wheel vehicles, and 20 baht for motorcycles.
▶️ How to get to the park:
- Private vehicles can be used on 2 routes: The first route is from Chiang Mai Province along Highway No. 11 and turn left into Doi Khun Tan National Park between km. 46-47 in Mae Tha District, Lamphun Province. It is an asphalt road for about 18 kilometers. The second route is from Lampang Province along Highway No. 11 and turn right into Doi Khun Tan National Park between km. 15-16. It is an asphalt road for about 28 kilometers, and you will reach the park office.
- Traveling by train: Take the Northern Line and get off at Khun Tan Railway Station. Then walk to the park for about 1,300 meters and you will reach the Doi Khun Tan National Park office.
