2024 Korla Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Korla is located in the southern foothills of the Tian Shan Mountains, on the northeastern edge of the Tarim Basin. It was the only route for the ancient Silk Road, and is still a transportation hub in present day southern Xinjiang. It is also famous for its pears. As a major city in southern Xinjiang, there are many famous scenic spots scattered around Korla. There is the Swan Lake in the Bayanbulak Grasslands, Bosten Lake, the Tarim River and Taklimakan Resort (known as the “800 li green corridor”), and the ancient ruins of the city of Bogedaqin in the Yanqi Basin.

2 Days in Osaka must visit
It’s one of the more famous castles in Japan with very interesting history and significance. Unfortunately, despite that, we were left a bit disappointed when we went inside because it was modern museum, and not a historic recreation.
Much of the old castle has been destroyed so it had to be rebuilt - twice - but it would have been nice to see what it looked like in the old times.
However, much of the giant granite blocks outside are originals from the 1600s and there are tons of other things to do around the castle like the gift shops, food, figure museum, and even a boat ride on the moat!
It’s a must visit site if you’re visiting Osaka and I think it’s worth the time and the ticket.
Xinjiang Travel Part 8: Drive the Most Beautiful Highway in Xinjiang—Tuhe Expressway.
Turpan, Xinjiang Korla, Bayingolin Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang Kuqa, Aksu Prefecture Kashgar City, Kashgar Prefecture
We drove from Urumqi to Turpan on the Lianhuo Expressway. The next day, we set off from Turpan, passing through Korla, Kuqa, and Aksu, and arrived in Kashgar on the afternoon of the fifth day. The journey from Turpan to Kashgar is nearly 1,400 km, and we drove on the Tuhe Expressway, known as the most beautiful highway in Xinjiang. The Tuhe Expressway is the only expressway connecting northern and southern Xinjiang. It is 1,931 km long and connects Turpan and Hotan. It is numbered G3012 in the Chinese expressway network. It runs south from Turpan, crosses the Tianshan Mountains, and runs along the southern slope of the Tianshan Mountains, passing through Korla, Kuqa, and Aksu to Kashgar. Along the way, we saw mysterious canyons, vast deserts, desolate Gobi, oasis treasures, simple ethnic customs, and ancient historical sites.
We set off from Turpan and began to climb in altitude. Soon, we reached the first scenic spot on the Tuhe Expressway, which is also the most dangerous section. This section is called Gangu, a gorge across the Tianshan Mountains and the throat of the Tuhe Expressway. It is 102 km from Toksun County to Korla, of which 70 km is the Gangu section. As the name suggests, Gangu has no water, grass, or vegetation, and its bare landscape is intimidating. But we also saw amazing and shocking sights. The desolate and magnificent primitive landforms, the vertical mountains formed by fault extrusion covered by moving sand dunes, and the unique terrain make this section of the expressway difficult to build and dangerous. The speed limit is 60 km/h, so be sure to drive safely. After crossing the Tianshan Mountains, we entered southern Xinjiang, and the scenery of the Yanqi Basin was in full view. The Tianshan Mountains have abundant water resources, and the oases are dotted at the foot of the mountains. After passing through Korla, the view to the west opened up. To the north, we saw the endless Tianshan Mountains, Danxia landforms, deserts, and occasional snow-capped mountains. This scenery accompanied us for hundreds of kilometers until we reached Kashgar.
Reverse tourism in Xinjiang: Beyond the grasslands, Korla is a must-visit!
📍Location:
Korla is located in Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, China, at the junction of the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains and the Taklamakan Desert. - Respect local culture and customs, protect the environment, and travel responsibly.
The Silk Road Tourist Town has lost its former glory, and Swan River is just around the corner.
It was all because I arrived in Korla too late and missed the most beautiful time of the Silk Road Town. Now, only the old and weary appearance remains, just like the old man leading a horse and leaning on a staff, with a face full of vicissitudes and a body full of fatigue... Once upon a time, he was probably also a handsome man with bright eyes and a radiant face. After several cruel storms, he can only recall the passion of the past.
Turning the corner is Swan Lake. If you arrive here between late March and late October, it will be much more lively and colorful. The white swans, blue lake, green mountains, and reflections of clouds in the water form a picture of "a piece of water without a trace soaking the blue sky, and the mountain and water form a picture by themselves," which should be extremely beautiful.

Visit the Korla Folk Culture Museum
Korla, meaning "to look afar" in Uyghur, is renowned for its famous "Korla fragrant pears" and is also known as "Pear City." It is the capital of Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture and the first national civilized city in the northwest region. The Peacock River, Swan River, and Azalea River cross the city, and its developed water system is praised as the "Jiangnan beyond the Great Wall," nurturing a rich cultural heritage and making it a shining pearl on the ancient Silk Road.
The Korla Folk Culture Museum showcases the integration and development of Silk Road culture, Loulan culture, and fragrant pear culture in Korla through six units: "Remembering the Source of Water in the Western Sea," "Windows and Doors of Thousands of Households," "Colorful Dyeing and Weaving," "Exhibition of Clothing and Attire," "Delicious Food and Drinks," and "Harmony in Life and Etiquette."

Visit the Bazhou Library in Korla
Everyone has some special feelings in their hearts. One of mine is visiting libraries in every place, feeling the clean and peaceful cultural atmosphere, and finding one or two books with regional characteristics to flip through. It seems that I can really touch the soul of the city.
The Bayinguoleng Library in Korla is not large compared to the libraries I have seen, but it is also a very cozy place. For example, there are some particularly exquisite book display designs, which make people feel that the books are meticulously managed and sincerely loved. This is the cultural charm of a city.
Fireworks in February over Yangzhou
Modern spring arrives earlier than in Li Bai's era, hence the early visit to Yangzhou.
Without a hundred thousand strings of cash at the waist, one can still descend to Yangzhou on a crane.
It may not be as bustling as Qianlong's six visits to the south of the Yangtze, but today, with hundreds of millions sharing the joy, how can it compare to a mere emperor?
The Bazhou Museum unveils the mysterious veil of the Loulan Beauty!
🌈Attraction Features:
1⃣ Architectural characteristics: The design is centered around the Loulan pagoda, complemented by the Mongolian Vajra Sarira pagoda as the architectural base, symbolizing the building's quest and contemplation of the ancient Loulan culture.
2⃣ Loulan Culture: Through the partial scene restoration and character reenactment of the Loulan city gate, streets, houses, small river cemeteries, and ancient tomb gullies, visitors are immersed in the charm of Loulan culture.
3⃣ The Long Journey Home: Through giant paintings and graphic introductions, you will truly understand the historical background of 'The Hero's Journey Home'. Unable to endure the humiliation by Tsarist Russia, the Torghut people, led by their leader Ubashi, resolutely decided to return to the east, traveling tens of thousands of miles, shouting 'Towards the east, never looking back' to return to the motherland. The Torghut's resistance against Tsarist Russia's oppression and enslavement, and their fearless return to the motherland, is not only a significant and touching event in our country's history but also created a world-famous miracle.

Korla Accommodation of Choice - The Rejuvenated Bosten Hotel
Although Korla has become a bustling international metropolis, the well-established Bosten Hotel still maintains a good reputation, especially since some of the rooms have been recently renovated. After the whole house has been upgraded to smart control, combined with reasonable prices and excellent service, it still can be the preferred choice for accommodation in Korla.
The hotel is a standalone building with more than 20 floors, ample parking spaces, and a prime location, which is very friendly to self-driving guests. The hotel lobby features a double-height ceiling, large pillars, a spiral staircase, and a European grand atmosphere.
Each floor has a dedicated 24-hour butler. After checking in and taking the elevator upstairs, the butler is already waiting at the elevator door to help with luggage, introduce the services, deliver a goodnight hot drink, and provide fast and free laundry service, which can be returned in about an hour.
If a few years ago Bosten Hotel was criticized for 'outdated facilities and patchy service,' the now renovated rooms can fully compensate for the hotel's shortcomings. They are spacious and bright, with modern decor and ample space, making for a very comfortable stay.
The rooms are full of thoughtful service details, such as large containers of drinking water, and welcome fruits like the super sweet Korla fragrant pears.
To the left of the entrance is the bathroom, with a single basin accompanied by green plants, double-sided mirrors, a spacious shower with comfortable hot water, and the toilet is equipped with a fully intelligent toilet and mobile phone shelf. To the right is the mini-bar, with domestic tea bags, large containers of water, and bottled water, with no charge for additional requests.
Near the window, there is a round office desk and a chaise lounge, making working no problem, and the bedding is also clean and tidy.
The only downside is the lack of a dedicated luggage rack, so suitcases have to be placed on the floor. Despite this, the price of just over 200 is still very cost-effective, recommended.

Korla Travel Guide
"I will not return until Loulan is broken." The treasure attractions around Korla, Xinjiang
Loulan is a beautiful, mysterious, and dreamy legend, as well as a sigh in the ruins of sand. Arriving at the Loulan Post, it feels like traveling through time and space. Change into the ethnic costumes of the Western Regions and immerse yourself in the prosperity of Loulan. Seeing the replica of the Loulan ruins nearby, one can imagine the scene of a caravan traveling through the layered dunes to Loulan.

The entrance LED screen will introduce and tell the story of the archaeological discovery of the Loulan ruins, unveiling the mysterious veil of Loulan. Korla Station Treasure Hotel—Highly recommended, a must-stay in Korla
The first time I've given a hotel a full five-star rating.
The hotel is close to the train station, with convenient transportation, surrounded by large supermarkets, making dining and shopping very convenient, and a large free parking lot with ample parking spaces, which is convenient for parking. From entering the hotel gate to entering the room, every staff member of the hotel has a very good attitude, very kind, giving a feeling of coming home.
The hygiene is really clean, especially the towels and bath towels are washed and individually packaged to avoid dust, and the details are very well done.
The whole house is equipped with smart 'Xiao Du' voice control, you can just move your mouth while lying in bed, technology changes life.
The family room has two 1.8-meter-wide beds, which are particularly cozy, with special children's products for kids, as well as a tent and wooden horse that children love.
The memory pillows and latex mattresses have a special ergonomic design that is particularly comfortable, giving the feeling of sleeping in your own bed.
The room attendant said that the boss is a very good person, and I think it must be a very good person who can lead such a good team and create such a cozy hotel.
Day 12 of the Southern Xinjiang Journey: The Ruins of the Ancient City of Loulan in Korla
It's the last day in Southern Xinjiang, and I have a flight from Korla in the evening. Worried about the tight schedule for a round trip to the Loulan Village, I decided to visit the replica of the Loulan ancient city ruins inside the Korla Sports Park instead, and it was a pleasant surprise.
Since there weren't many tourists, it was particularly good for taking photos.
I've finally finished updating the 12-day Southern Xinjiang itinerary!
Autumn Tour in Xinjiang (64) "Korla Station"
Taking the 5818 desert train, an 18-hour journey, from Hotan, Xinjiang to the capital of Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang—Korla City,
The 5818 train, which was opened to traffic in June 2022, is the world's first desert railway: Xinjiang He-Ruo Railway, starting from Hotan, the terminal station is Urumqi, passing through "Korla", the train travels around the Taklamakan Desert known as the "Sea of Death", from day to sunset, then to night, from snow-capped mountains to unpredictable desert, oasis, Populus euphratica forest...,
Autumn Tour in Xinjiang (65) 'Korla'
Beautiful 'Korla' city, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, is the largest city in southern Xinjiang with a long history. During the Western Han Dynasty, Korla was one of the thirty-six countries in the Western Regions, known as 'Qu Li', and was annexed by Yanqi after the Eastern Han Dynasty. In 1979, with the approval of the State Council, 'Korla City' was established. 'Korla' in Uyghur means 'overlooking'. Because it produces the world-renowned 'Korla Fragrant Pear', it is also known as 'Pear City'...
Coming to 'Korla', in addition to taking the 'Desert Train', there are also buses to 'Hutai Poplar Forest' and 'Bosten Lake'...
When you come to Korla, don't miss tasting the 'Korla Fragrant Pear'. The 'Nang' here also has its own characteristics...
22nd stop of the Ring Tower Special Train: Bazhou Museum.
Checked into Korla City, and arrived early at the Bazhou Museum located in Korla. Its full name is: Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture Museum.
"Bayingolin" is a transliteration of Mongolian language, meaning "rich valley".
Mainly visited three floors:
First floor of Bazhou Historical and Cultural Exhibition Hall.
The display has artistic sense, and the exhibits are also very rich.
Pottery jars with local characters carved on them (Figure 11); exquisitely crafted bone shuttles for weaving (Figure 12); distinctive local clothing such as lantern pants, which are still fashionable today (Figure 13);
I like the unique lighting fixtures inside (pictures 14, 15);
There is also a bowl made of a skull (Figure 17), so exquisite that I have rarely seen before.
Second floor exhibition of Lan's historical and cultural heritage.
Not fully constructed yet, the video in front of the door provides a comprehensive introduction to the Loulan culture. Since we have already visited the Loulan Museum, we don't really care if it's worth watching or not.
Three-layer Eastward Return Historical and Cultural Exhibition
This exhibition hall is very rich in content, providing a detailed introduction to that period of history.
In January 1771, leader Ubashi and his more than 30,000 households, about 170,000 people, raised their flags and headed east, leaving the Volga River basin where they had lived for nearly a century and a half, returning to what they called the "place where the sun rises." "Only half of them made it to Ili."
After returning, the majority of the Tu'erhute people live in the areas of Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and Qinghai.
In 2004, the day when Wobaxi led his troops to reach Bayinbuluke Grassland in Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture - June 23rd, was designated as the "Eastward Return Festival".
(Picture 3) The back of the lobby screen is densely covered with various superlatives of Bayingolin, take a closer look for a more comprehensive understanding of Bazhou:
China's largest province
China's largest inland basin.
China's largest desert
China's longest inland river.
China's largest inland freshwater lake.
China's largest alpine grassland
China's only swan nature reserve.
China's earliest established natural reserve for wild hoofed animals in high mountains.
China's earliest established Wild Bactrian Camel Nature Reserve.
China's largest desert poplar forest park.
China's largest Populus euphratica forest conservation area.
China's largest oil and gas exploration area.
China's largest asbestos producing region.
China's largest production area of medicinal leech stones.
China's most important reed production area.
China's most important licorice producing region.
China's largest wild ramie production area.
The longest graded highway built in a moving desert in the world.
These countless "mosts", what kind of "mosts" will be created in the future?
Xinjiang people are inseparable from the shackles. As one of the important ingredients on the ancient Silk Road, after thousands of years of change, they have formed dozens of cockroaches that are seen today.
I have seen the Museum of Culture and Culture, this time in the cultural food street of Yuli County, Bazhou, I saw how the oysters were baked in the crater. After the flour is fermented into a dough, the special flower is used to tie the flower on the cake, not only for the sake of beauty, but also for the heat to be evenly heated.
The snoring master puts the cakes one by one on the wall of the pit. According to different materials, it needs to be baked for half an hour to one hour. The big cockroach that just came out of the pit is golden in color and smells fragrant.
