Donggui Hero Memorial Tower

The Donggui Hero Memorial Tower, like a towering giant, stands on Longshan Mountain in Korla, Xinjiang, and is undoubtedly the landmark of this city. The memorial tower is 39 meters high and quietly tells a magnificent history. From the end of the 35th year to the summer of the 36th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1770–1771), the leader of the Torghut tribe, Ubashi, led more than 33,000 households and nearly 170,000 people living on the east bank of the Volga River to resolutely embark on the journey back to the east from the Volga River Basin in Russia, heading towards the Yili area of the Qing Dynasty. This was a great national migration. During the nearly eight-month trek, they broke through the encirclement and interception of Tsarist Russia and its affiliated troops, overcame the severe cold and the invasion of the plague, traveled nearly 10,000 miles, and finally completed the national migration back to the motherland at the cost of half the loss of people and livestock.
