Koh Muk - Emerald Cave, Kantang District, Trang Province
Emerald Cave on Koh Muk, Trang Province, was originally a hideout for pirates and a refuge for locals. Later, people discovered the cave's magical beauty when sunlight streamed through, turning the inner chamber an emerald green. This is the origin of the name "Emerald Cave," which tourists know today. Later, it was discovered that when sunlight penetrates the cave into the water, it turns the water and cave walls a beautiful emerald green, making the cave known as the "Emerald Cave."
Entrance: The cave is accessible only during low tide.
Inside the cave: A wide, mountain-like opening, it features a white sandy beach, crystal-clear blue water, and rock walls decorated with green foliage.
The "Emerald Green" phenomenon: This phenomenon occurs when sunlight hits the water, creating a stunning emerald green color.
This is the most striking feature of Trang's sea. The western side of the island is dominated by towering cliffs facing the sea, home to the Emerald Cave. The eastern side is home to a fishing village, which preserves the island's way of life and offers a variety of accommodations. Koh Muk boasts pristine white sand beaches and beautiful coral reefs. Located within Hat Chao Mai National Park, the atmosphere is peaceful and private. The eastern side is home to a pier, a fishing village that still preserves the island's traditional way of life, and offers a wider variety of accommodations than the western side. Most of the island's cliffs face the sea, and is home to the Emerald Cave.
Furthermore, Koh Muk boasts pristine white sand beaches and beautiful coral reefs. Hat Chao Mai National Park closes the island to tourism for natural restoration from June 1st to September 30th of each year. To get there, take a ferry from Kuan Tung Ku Pier, approximately 22 kilometers from Kantang District, using the same route as Hat Yao, but past the Ban Nam Rap intersection. The entrance to Hat Yao is approximately 5 kilometers away.
From Kuan Tung Ku Pier, it takes approximately 30 minutes to reach Koh Muk. Regular and chartered ferry services are available. Located on the western side of Koh Muk, visitors must float in groups from the cave entrance through the darkness for 80 meters.
At the entrance of the cave, sunlight reflects off the water, rendering it an emerald green. On the other side is a large cavern. Inside, there's a pristine white sand beach surrounded by steep, illuminated cliffs.
