2024 Koh Chang Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Koh Chang (also spelled Ko Chang) is an island in eastern Thailand. It is the one’s second largest island, but is lightly populated and has only recently undergone real development. Long a backpacker’s paradise, Koh Chang is processed, as per the Thai government’s desire, into a typical beach resort destination, which has caused controversy in the area. Hotels like GajaPuri Resort & Spa and Panviman Resort Koh Chang are the norm. The island is famous for utterly pristine beaches and marine environments which are threatened by rapid and unregulated development. The most popular activities for visitors center on nature. Snorkeling, SCUBA diving and just plain beach relaxing are widely available, as are hikes through the steaming jungle.
Today's Weather
Partly cloudy 27-32℃
Ko Chang (Ko Chang)
Ko Chang is the second largest island in Thailand. The island features several waterfalls, beautiful beaches, and stunning coral reefs.

Than Mayom Waterfall
Than Mayom Waterfall is a medium-sized waterfall with 4 tiers. The water flows down in layers over black granite rocks, creating steep cliffs that are almost vertical. The surrounding area is a dense forest with cool and pleasant weather, ideal for camping and swimming. The trail to the waterfall is easy to walk. The first tier of the waterfall is not very high and has a pool in front. Notably, there is a plaque inscribed with the royal initials of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) on the left side. The second tier is slightly further up, while the third and fourth tiers are quite far and the path is difficult, requiring a guide.

Thailand's 8 most beautiful islands, each worth visiting again and again!
🏝️Phuket
Developed early, with a well-rounded life and commercial facilities, the tourism industry is also very developed, with basically all underwater and water activities, a wealth of entertainment projects, eat, drink and play in one, the public choice~
-
🏝️Koh Samui
Compared to Phuket, Koh Samui has more of a tropical island feel because it is densely covered with coconut groves and islands, the distance between the islands is very close, and the commercial life and entertainment facilities are also very rich.
Honeymoon Island, there are many high-end hotels (Six Senses, Banyan Tree, Ritz Carlton, etc.)
-
🏝️Koh Samet
Koh Samet is about 3~4 hours away from Bangkok, near Pattaya, it is a lesser-known white sand beach, not so commercialized.
-
🏝️Krabi
Krabi is more like a hidden island town in the mountains, with a slow pace of life, not only has a pure blue coastline, but also a unique karst landscape.
-
🏝️Phi Phi Island
Phi Phi Island is an offshore island of Krabi, the towering mountains on the sea paired with the blue sea water is breathtaking, the natural rock caves formed between the mountains are even more surprising
-
🏝️Similan
The Similan Islands are a national marine park, with excellent ecological protection, composed of 9 islands, extremely suitable for snorkeling!!
-
🏝️Koh Chang
Koh Chang is also a small island with a well-protected ecological environment, there are many undeveloped islands around, many beaches and primitive forests have not been developed, full of natural quiet atmosphere!
-
🏝️Koh Lipe
Koh Lipe is located on the southernmost coast, bordering Malaysia, away from the hustle and bustle, not overly developed, the ecological environment is very good, known as the small Maldives of Thailand, is a diving paradise in Thailand.
The water quality is very good, clearly layered, from the crystal clear jelly green, gradually to sky blue, and finally to the deep blue gem color, each layer makes people feel incredibly stunning!
Adventures on Elephant Island
Koh Chang in Thailand was the perfect island. we could rest at the Tropical Beach resort and got to do some exploring. There is an old abandoned resort and cruise ship on the island. Our room was right next to it, so we got go exploring. Unfortunately we couldn't get onto the ship but it's still awe inspiring. Can't wait to get to Koh Chang again.

Summer trip in Koh Chang island, Thailand
August and September is low season in Thailand and I was lucky enough to get cheap flight tickets and hotel in Thailand. I took 6 hours bus from Bangkok airport and arrived to this beautiful island.
It supposed to be raining season, but all my 5 days holiday, rain was only during the night time.
Price for hotels and restaurants cheaper then in Pattaya and Bangkok. But not much entertainment.

Elephants Farm in Koh Chang, Thailand
Elephant Farm is located on the middle of the island, just opposite of the Centara Hotel Koh Chang.
For 100 THB you can feed the elephants with sugar cane or pineapples. During the low season for 300 THB you can ride an elephant for 1 hour. During high season, price increase to 500 THB.
But I don’t like to see elephants sad faces, so maximum I only can feed them.
Farm also can arrange the transfer for you to your hotel for extra cost.

End of my summer vacation in Koh Chang
My summer vacation is about to end! For my last trip for this summer I choose Koh Chang island in Thailand. From Bangkok airport to the island, it takes me more then 6 hours trip by bus and by boat.
For this stay I choose to stay in The Splash Hotel Koh Chang. Because now is still low season in Thailand, so include tax I paid around 300 HKD per night.
I booked this hotel because I saw nice pictures on the internet. But the reality was sot so wonderful. Swimming pool was so small, breakfast so poor and zero activities to do. Lucky it was cheap…

Not Again AWA
AWA Resort Koh Chang has a lovely façade. Entrance facing the main street so no need to walk through side streets. another side facing the sea which is great to watch the sunset. it got a great pool though water is a bit cool in January. breakfast is plentiful and starts from 7am to 1030am. Room service is quick on delivery, takes no more than 20 minutes.
however, I asked for a quiet room on top floor. they gave me a room on the ground floor and can hear residents upstairs talking (in loud Cantonese), dragging chairs here and there and walking from one side of the room to another. Maybe the definition of “QUIET” and “TOP FLOOR” bear different meaning to AWA.
Also, their wifi is so weak that it is practically not available. I asked the front desk and after waiting for an hour for a technician to come to my room to check it out, front desk told me the technician will check outside my room. but there is no difference after checking.
overall, I think there are many resorts in Koh Chang. AWA is much over-rated. I will return to Koh Chang again but not to AWA
Why do people prefer to go to Thailand instead of Vietnam?
As both Southeast Asian tourist destinations, why do people prefer to go to Thailand and rarely visit Vietnam? From personal experience, the tourism experiences in these two countries are really different.
No input provided.
Natural scenery: Thailand has extremely rich natural scenery, many of which can be remembered by everyone, such as Phuket Island, Pattaya, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, Zheng Wang Temple, etc. In addition to these, small and niche tourist attractions such as Chiang Khan and Elephant Island are also very worth visiting. The tourism methods are diversified and can meet the needs of different people. Compared to that, there are relatively few well-known tourist attractions in Vietnam.
Tourism environment: Vietnam started and developed its tourism industry later than Thailand, and the overall industry is not as well-developed as Thailand's, so both the infrastructure and tourism environment, including shopping places, are not as abundant as Thailand's.
I have been to Thailand 6 times and Vietnam twice. Overall, Thailand's city streets are cleaner and the cultural environment is better. Thai people are also more friendly and hospitable. My most memorable experience was riding a motorcycle in Thailand alongside cars, even during rush hour, everything was orderly and there was no honking, which I found quite impressive.
Consumer level: The cost of living in Thailand is lower than in Vietnam, and it is also safer. Basically, a person can spend only a few thousand yuan to travel to Thailand for a week. However, there are too many things to buy, such as local jewelry and bags, which cost only tens of yuan. I haven't seen any sky-high prices for souvenirs. Especially, many floating markets are a shopping paradise for women. Speaking of shopping paradise for women, Vietnam is even rarer.
Language environment: There are many people who speak Chinese in Thailand, and learning Chinese is very common in Thailand. Relatively speaking, Chinese people will have fewer language communication barriers when they go there. But if you travel freely in Vietnam, language communication will be very difficult.
Movie promotion: People love Thailand not only because of their personal experiences, but also because of the recent movie promotions that reflect the country's good environment. There are more movies that showcase this in Thailand, especially some public service advertisements that are very touching. However, Vietnam has done very little in this regard.
The above are the reasons why people like to go to Thailand but not Vietnam. What do you think?

Koh Chang Beach Resort Villas
#fallingforfall
Getting there - from Bangkok we took the bus for six hours to the province trat in which koh chang is located as well. This island is close to the border to Cambodia. From the bus stop in trat we had to take a taxi to the pier from which the ferry leaves only 4 times per day. Make sure to arrive on time. On the way back we were able to jump on a bus straight to Bangkok for the same price that was waiting for people at the pier. This was way faster cheaper and more convenient. The Beach Villa in Koh Chang is incredible and the Beach is not that touristy or crowded which is perfect for a nice quite stroll on the beach
Ko Chang, one of the largest Thai islands in the Gulf of Thailand, contains dense, steep jungle. Mu Ko Chang National Park, a preserve with hiking trails and waterfalls such as tiered Klong Plu, covers the interior and extends to offshore coral reefs. The coast is dotted with beaches and villages including Bang Bao, built on piers. Hat Tha Nam (aka Lonely Beach) has a waterfront party scene that attracts backpackers.
Ko Chang island, known also as ‘Elephant Island’ named because of its elephant shaped headland, is Thailand’s third largest island after Phuket and Samui. It is located around 300 kilometres east of Bangkok in Trat Province, in the Gulf of Thailand near the Cambodian border.
one of my favourite islands in Thailand
I have been to lots of islands in Thailand, and Koh Chang is one of my fav ones among all the other islands. we spent in total 3 nights there and stayed in 2 different places. renting a scooter is a must, that saves you money and you are able to explore the entire island.
the beaches are quite beautiful, but what really caught our attention are those picturesque piers.
and the second day, we went down to the south, we drove pass by this hippie cafe named Rasta view, they have really laid back vibes and the view was just stunning. and there are lots of things you can do on this island, going to fishing village, walking across the floating market, you will reach the lighthouse.
if you have time, I’ll strongly recommend spend at least 3 days here #passionpassport #gooutside #beach#vibes#thailand#naturalwonders

Best island in Northern Thailand
This is my favorite Island in northern Thailand: There are great beaches to watch the fisherman go out in the morning with this traditional boats that have a big fishing net in the fron if the boat and scoop up all the fish. My favorite beach is lonely beach as you can guess the beach is calm and quite and perfect for a chill day. Around the area there are many restaurants and bars. This area is also great for watching sunset having a cool drink. A Tropical Thai Island
Thailand is a popular destination place where many heard if places like Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Hua Hin. There is a tropical island called Koh Chang located south west of capital city Bangkok. This is an island where only reachable via ferry from Laem Ngop.
This is a dive destination for many where you will be able to see large vessel wreckages and reefs with marine life. There are also many dive centres around for your PADI diving license if you want to make this one of your bucket list to do.
For those that are unable to swim, the island Koh Chang has also many things to offer, where there are many bars by the beach to just chill, or hiking to the many waterfalls on this island and even ATV off road adventure.
This is like an island paradise where things are abit expensive but something you have to visit at least once, away from the mainstream islands.

ร้านชาวเลซีฟู๊ดส์ เกาะช้าง
Great variety of really fresh seafood, no wonder being located straight next to the ocean. Price is really affordable, staff friendly as everywhere in Thailand. Whether for a small snack or lunch, this is the place to be if you love seafood

Koh Chang
Perfect place if you want calm and relaxing. The first couple of hundred metres of the beach is lined with small beach bars and restaurants. There's even the obligatory rasta bar with Happy Shakes on the menu. All have deckchairs and sun loungers on the sand and this area can get busy with day-trippers. But the further along the beach you go, the quieter it gets. There are a few places to stay-if you're on a budget then BangBao Beach Resort and Klong Kloi #awesomepic beaches cottages are worth checking out. If you fancy a bit of luxury then Chivapuri Beach Resort caters to you. And if you're somewhere in the middle and want to be a few minutes walks from the busier area then Tropical Beach Resort has mid-range AC bungalows. In the past year or so, new businesses have also started to spring up inland, away from the beach. Here's where you'll find a mix of cheap huts ideal for longer stays and small shops. There's no 7-eleven but there is a minimart which saves having to go to Bangbao village a couple of kilometres away for supplies. #

Staying in Koh Chang I found this wonderful place, where I basically spent every morning and night, watching sunsets and star falls! From the first night the owners of this place were very friendly and open even though I stayed in the small hotel near by they still welcomed me at their place to join every event they organized! That was the first place for me to try delicious and fresh Thai Food, served nicely in the cleanest plates I could find in Thailand! The level of service in Indie Beach is on top! Stuff is extremely friendly and willing to make ur experience on an island unforgettable!
The place is owned by a wonderful couple! Christine is Norwegian, she is very friendly to her guests and always willing to organize something fun! She is gladly taking her guests around an Island. 😍
If you want to have a romantic gateway or a family holiday this place is definitely for you! Even if you are a solo traveler who is willing to have some peace ☮️, you will find it here!
Puddle boarding, yoga, massage , beautiful sunsets and the best cocktails by the beach!! 🥰 You will definitely have a time of your life❤️
Are you Raggae? 😏😂😎
Where? - Koh Chang island
What? - Rasta View caffe and bungalows
Rasta View, located near tranquillity residence, is the most chilled place on the whole Koh Chang island 😊 The stuff is very very friendly, be sure, they will remember your name after first introduction! Make sure to try their cocktails and food and just enjoy the view with the most milky PinaCollada on the beach… Rasta House have 3 floors and each with a terrace on the hill from where you can watch the most beautiful sunsets and enjoy the sound of geckos 🦎 singing on the roof! You will find a little bit more than that in their amazing place, a collection of books, pool table and retro cars !This place has a vibeeeee ✨❤️😎
Koh Chang - Elephant island 🦣
Getting There - Buss from BKK or minivan 🚐, Ferry and taxi on the island ( the whole trip will take 7-8 h)
Attractions - Island itself/ nearby islands / wildlife
Hotels - Indie beach bungalows; Beach Box
Welcome to visit Koh Chang if you want a getaway to peace and quiet! The island is full of surprises and very easy to live at. You will have to get used to monkeys coming every morning to the roof of your bungalow, crabs running around the beach, octopus hiding in stones in the wild parts of the beach and 🦎 saving you from mosquitoes 😋. Finding food on the island is very easy, all the restaurants are serving delicious food, lots of seafood and fruits, everything extremely fresh! Every morning fishermen come to the village with what they caught and u can buy it from them to grill or cook later 😍 Apart from that, sup, canoes, boats will take u everywhere around the island and islands near by! My advice, pack ur small bag and get ur time out🥰🍹🏝
