Ernest Hemingway home
Location: Key West, Florida
The Hemingway House, one of Key West's most popular spots, was once the home of the celebrated American author, who lived here for more than a decade. You can wander around the largely preserved rooms and tour the lush, lovely gardens.
The home is filled with Hemingway memorabilia—photos, books, and furniture—that played a part in his South Florida life. There are free guided tours every 30 minutes. Entrance to the museum is by cash only, no credit cards accepted. $17 for adults, $7 for children.
I got to know about Ernest Hemingway when I was traveling in Cuba years ago and visited one of his favourite bars in Havana.

Hemingways golden years have been left in the yard
Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum. At Key West, the only thing that can't be avoided is Hemingway, whether you're in a restaurant, bar or plaza.
In the 1930s, he lived in the southernmost town of the United States for nearly a decade. In addition to his well-known writer label, he is also an excellent boxer, a global traveler, a brave battlefield hero, an avid fisherman and hunter, and a senior alcoholic gambler.
The period of residence in Key West is Hemingway's golden years. He usually gets up at 6 in the morning, writing until noon, and fishing or drinking in the afternoon and evening. Most of the words in "Farewell to Weapons", "The Rich and the Poor", "Death in the Afternoon", "The Green Hills of Africa", "The Snow of Kilimanjaro" and "Who Is the Death Bell?" Written in this house.
The descendants of the Hemingway family, but he was a six-toed cat called "Snowball" that was raised in the same year. Today, 59 cats living in the house are descendants. They can enter and exit at will in front of the house, even if they are surrounded by Hemingway's antique beds and rocking chairs, they are also their resting place.

The 19th-century fortress
Dry Tortugas National Park
floating in the turquoise sea is one of the most difficult to reach American national parks. The boat and seaplane can only be reached.
From Key West, all the way to the west for two and a half hours. The speed of the ship is very fast. Standing on the bow deck, you can sometimes see the sea turtles floating on the water surface. Several black clouds on the side are pouring rain on the uninhabited reefs a few kilometers away. Most of the
dry turtle national parks belong to the sea, while the upper part of the sea has only a few small coral reefs and a huge amount of Fort Jefferson. Built in the 19th century, the hexagonal fort was built with more than 16 million bricks and is said to be the largest masonry in the Western Hemisphere. In addition to maintaining the shipping trade and defending the security of the Gulf of Mexico, it was also used to detain the Southern Alliance deserters during the American Civil War.
Jefferson Fort is almost as large as the island it is in. It took me more than three hours to walk along each floor of the fort. I even went snorkeling and back to the shore. I didnt care about lunch on the boat. The fortress was full of large-caliber artillery pieces, and the one-meter-thick outer wall was unbreakable in the same year, enough to protect the "Gibraltar" of the Gulf of Mexico.

The southernmost sunset of the US mainland
in South Florida during this trip, except for the first rain in Miami, the rest of the day is good enough to see the sunrise and sunset every day, just like breathing .
is no exception in Key West. Mallory Square in the west of the city is a great place to watch the sunset, in addition to the street performers. When the sun sets to the sea level, and the sea breeze smashes, the sky blends pink, orange, and blue-violet in the line of sight, and the hard shell melts at the moment.

As the largest masonry fort in the United States, Jefferson Castle stands on Garden Island, 113 kilometers west of Key West, the southernmost tip of the United States mainland. Jefferson castle is hexagonal. It is built according to the perfect symmetry advocated by the classical architecture school. From the air, you can take a plane to overlook the magnificence of the whole fort.

Hainan of the US, it's so hot there.
Although Miami is located in the southernmost part of the US, the weather is currently characterized by a large temperature difference between day and night. It's like summer during the day and autumn at night. However, boys can wear short sleeves at night, while girls who are afraid of the cold are recommended to wear shirts and long pants or long skirts, as it can be quite chilly when the wind blows.
MIAMI—KEY WEST round trip.
09:30 Depart from the hotel.
The scenery along the way is breathtaking. Ah~ I really love the sea!
There is a broken bridge next to the Overseas Highway near Key West, forming a unique landscape. It is said to be a scenic spot, and a 20-minute stop is enough.
Broken bridge ⬇️
There are Americans fishing on the bridge. They either release the fish or feed them to the birds, and rarely take them home to eat. (This reminds me of the wild animals during the pandemic. Who on earth insisted on eating bats?) ⬇️
🅿️ Parking recommendation: There is a parking lot behind DJ's restaurant, which is very convenient for visiting the attractions. It's just a short walk away. Although it looks far on the map, it's not far to walk. The two adjacent attractions are at most less than 1 km apart. Parking costs $4/hour, and you pay for the time you park.
Here, you park first and then pay for the parking time. It relies on honesty, and basically, no one will overstay, nor will anyone check. We found that we overstayed halfway through, so we went back to buy more time.
● Southernmost Point
Address: Whitehead St&South Street
⬇️
● Hemingway House
Address: 907 Whitehead St
Ticket: $15/person
The waiter thoughtfully asked us where we were from and then gave us an introduction in Chinese, saying that a tour guide would come to give a tour at 4 pm. (The tour guide did come, but I couldn't understand a word...)
The main reason for visiting is to see the six-toed cats. I realized that it's not that I don't like cats, but I don't like skinny animals. Chubby cats are quite cute.
There are really a lot of cats... They are specially raised, and several of them really have six toes! There are also normal five-toed cats.
WOW, amazing~
● Lighthouse
Address: 938 Whitehead St
Who knew that it would close at 16:00... So we couldn't go up to the lighthouse to take a look. We could only take photos and check in outside the gate to show that we had been there.

Continental US Southernmost Point
The Southernmost Point Buoy is an anchored concrete buoy in Key West, Florida, marking the southernmost point in the continental United States, the lowest latitude land of contiguous North American states. It is 18 feet above sea level. The large painted buoy was established as a tourist attraction in 1983 by the city at the corner of South Street and Whitehead Street.#miami #keywest #florida#roadtrip

Southernmost Point of the Continental USA @ Key West
#usatravel #florida
We had a chance to visit the Southernmost Point of the Continental USA, located in Key West, Florida. This iconic landmark is a popular tourist destination and holds significant geographical and cultural importance.
The most popular spot is the monument, represented by a large, brightly painted concrete buoy, installed in 1983 by the city of Key West. The buoy is painted in red, black, and yellow, with the words "Southernmost Point Continental U.S.A." and "90 Miles to Cuba" inscribed on it.
The buoy serves as a symbolic marker, as the actual southernmost point is a few yards away on private property, and another inaccessible point is located in a restricted area of the Naval Air Station Key West.
We arrived at the area around noon, and there were a lot of people lined up to take pictures with the buoy. It took around 20 minutes before we got a chance to take a picture with the famous monument. Mission completed!
There are great restaurants and cafes in the area, along with cool spots for photography. We highly recommend anyone visiting Key West to check it out.

Do you want to visit a place far away from the main tourist areas?
This time, it was Key West. It's only a 4-hour drive from Miami, but people outside the United States have never heard of it. I've been thinking about it for years and it exceeded my expectations! Tropical atmosphere, blue seas and bays, and the best sunsets ever.
Fortunately, I stayed at the Hyatt Centric Key West - an amazing location with a new restaurant, Four Flamingos Key West, where you can enjoy delicious food (really tasty, and rare in the US) and the crazy colors of the sunset.
United States·The southernmost point of the United States, Key West Island {4}
Upon entering Key West, a lively and leisurely atmosphere hits you. The city's small streets are filled with various souvenir shops, inns, and coffee houses, the most popular of which is a restaurant. This place, known as the southernmost building in the United States, has been visited by as many as 17 U.S. presidents.
Walking along Duval Street to the southernmost point of Key West, people will see a painted, top-like 'southernmost point' sign of the United States. It is only 144 kilometers from the opposite coast of Cuba. It is recorded that Cuba's national hero Jose Marti lived in the United States for 15 years. In 1895, he led the Cubans to resist the Spanish colonists, and he personally commanded and participated in the battle, finally sacrificing himself on the front line. It is said that Marti's uprising order was sent back to Cuba from Key West in a cigar.
Driving to Key West is a unique experience. Along Highway 1, there are more than 200 kilometers along the way, many places on land are only as wide as the road, and the sea is on both sides of the road. There are many bridges along the way to connect the islands that are too far apart, the longest of which is 11.2 kilometers. People can see the spectacular view of the long bridge across the sea from a long distance. As early as 1905, Key West was the most populous city in Florida, and building a smooth traffic route became a very important project. At that time, American industrial tycoon Henry Flagler formulated an ambitious blueprint, he decided to extend the railway to Key West.
Hemingway is one of the most famous writers in the United States, many of his works, such as 'The Snows of Kilimanjaro', were completed in the small town of Key West. Hemingway's former residence in Key West was built in 1851 and is located on Whitehead Street in the small town.
Across the street is a tall lighthouse, the light on the tower not only guides the ships at sea, but also helps Hemingway, the often drunk great writer, find his home.

Uncovering Key West's Dark History of "Wrecking"
Did you know that Key West was once a more prosperous city than NYC and Chicago? 😯⛵️ In the 19th century, locals would deceive sailors and boaters by guiding them into shallow waters, intentionally causing their boats to become stuck. They would then offer their services to rescue the stranded vessels for a fee. This unethical practice, known as "wrecking," allowed some families to amass great wealth through salvage operations. Even when the federal government stepped in to regulate the issue by installing markers to indicate shallow areas, locals would secretly move these buoys and markers at night to continue profiting from stranded sailors ;) Key West has a rich history of shipwrecks, with over 1,000 sunken vessels surrounding the island. This has turned it into a paradise for divers, who can explore an underwater museum of ships dating back as far as the 17th century. During our visit, we had an amazing time snorkeling, kayaking, and sailing with @danger_charters. They provided us with captivating stories and made the experience truly memorable. I highly recommend trying out this adventure when you're in Key West.
