Today's Weather
Clear -8-5℃
Visit Tibet in Winter|Hike 6 hours at an altitude of 5,300 meters to the end of the world.
Why do I like visiting Tibet in winter so much? As a snow mountain and glacier enthusiast, Tibet in winter satisfies all my fantasies about stunning landscapes.
In winter, the mountains of Tibet are covered with snow. Whether you look down from the plane or open the window, you can enjoy the continuous white mountains.
The lakes of the glaciers freeze and the water level drops, allowing you to get close to the glaciers.
📍Qudeng Nima Glacier Copper Lake, Gamba County, Shigatse, Tibet. Located on the China-India border, it is blocked by a huge object in front of it, which is used as the boundary between the two countries and is also described as the "end of the world."
❄️It's very cold before the sun shines in the morning! I felt like my limbs were going to freeze off, it was more than ten degrees below zero, and I came back to life after the sun shone.
✔️Qudeng Nima Glacier Hiking Guide:
🧭Navigate to "Qudeng Nima Glacier", you will pass by a marked road sign and a rainbow road, then register at the post, show your ID card and border pass, because it is the border, you need to leave one person's ID card.
▶️The starting point of the hike is the parking point at the end of the drive. It takes 2 km from the parking point to the Copper Lake. At an altitude of 5,000+, it takes about 1 hour to hike 2 km.
➡️It is about 2 km from the lake to the front of the glacier along the right side of the lake. At an altitude of 5,300, it takes about 2 hours to hike.
☑️So it takes about 3 hours one way. We walked and took photos along the way, and it took about 6 hours to go back and forth. (We set off from the starting point of the hike at nearly 10 am and returned to the parking area at 4 pm)
💡Other Tips
1️⃣Stay in Gamba County the night before. The county is at an altitude of 4,700 meters, which is very high. Try to find a room with oxygen supply.
2️⃣Warm clothing and hats are essential, and photographers are advised to prepare gloves.
3️⃣The starting point of the hike is also at a high altitude, so it is recommended to make all preparations, including psychological preparation. If you are afraid of altitude sickness, it is recommended to carry an oxygen tank with you! Or do what you can, after all, high-altitude hiking is risky.
4️⃣You can climb up the glacier along the right side of the mountain in front of the glacier, but I personally do not recommend it. One is that the slope of the mountain is too steep and covered with snow, and the other is that the glacier roars from time to time, and the structure is changing at any time, which is very dangerous❗️
National Geographic didn't lie! The end of the world is so amazing!
Qudeng Nima, known as the end of the world by National Geographic
It's no exaggeration to say that this is the best glacier in China!
Above the glacier, the ice layer slowly spreads in a circular pattern like tree rings
As if nature used time as a carving knife
To carefully carve on this endless white canvas
Recording the passage of time and change
In front of the glacier lies a blue moraine lake as clear as a mirror
In winter, the lake freezes into crystal-clear blue ice 🧊
Creating the most primitive and wild beauty on earth~

[Hiking Guide]
👉🏻Navigate to Qudeng Nima Glacier, Gangba. Be sure to go in the morning! You will be asked to leave by 18:00. There are currently two hiking routes open. After entering, the left is the Yuhu Line (East Holy Lake), and the right is the Tonghu Line (West Holy Lake).
🔹Yuhu: You can only reach the glacier in winter when the lake is frozen. In other seasons, you can only see the glacier across the lake. The hiking difficulty is moderate, and the time is short, about 2–3 hours round trip.
🔹Tonghu: In summer, you can hike along the right side of the lake to the foot of the glacier, only a few meters away from the ice wall. The hiking distance is long, and the lake is over 5,200m above sea level, with a small climb, about 4 hours round trip.
⚠️Notes:
-Apply for a border pass in advance
-There are no toilets after the border station, so go in advance
-Prepare oxygen, water, and snacks
-No drones allowed, drones must be stored at the border station
-Return to the border station to collect your driving license and drone by 18:30 (times may vary, please ask the border station staff for details). If you are late, you will have to collect them the next day.
-Bring crampons for the frozen lake in winter
-It is said that the wind is not strong in the morning, so you can go early. Keep warm and wear a hat and mask.
Ali is really amazing! An epic autumn scene is about to be presented.
When the barley fields are covered with golden waves, Ali enters the most charming season of the year. The autumn in Ali can fulfill all your expectations for beautiful scenery.
The towering snow-capped mountains are no longer mysterious, and the world is clear and far-reaching. Golden meadows, gentle sunsets, free-running wild animals, and increasingly deep blue holy lakes together create beautiful autumn scrolls.
The end of September to October each year is the best time to travel to Ali. At this time, it avoids the rainy season in summer and the severe cold in winter. The temperature is relatively suitable, the sky is blue with few clouds, and it is easy to see the sunrise and the starry sky. It is the best time when the autumn is the strongest, don't miss it.
About altitude and altitude sickness: 80% of the Ali route is above 4,000 meters above sea level, so pay attention to altitude sickness. You can go to Lhasa to adapt before going, avoid strenuous exercise, maintain a good mentality, and carry glucose, oxygen, etc.
The beautiful scenery not to be missed includes:
• Gang Rinpoche: the sacred mountain in the hearts of many pilgrims.
• Qudeng Nima: Known as the "end of the world", it is the ultimate glacier in Tibet.
• Tree of the Earth: A natural tree spectacle formed by flowing water.
• Guge Dynasty: A mysterious dynasty connected to the sky
• Zada Earth Forest: The earth forest is scattered and has thousands of postures.
• Zhuomulaji: The seventh peak of the Himalayas.
• Ama Zhimi: A little-known snow-capped mountain.
• Dark Night Park: One of the four major dark night parks in the world.
• Wenbunan Village: A secluded village next to Dangreyong Co.
• Yicuozaicuo: A series of blue lakes on the Ali line, each of which is amazing.

Scenery along the Xinjiang-Tibet Highway: snow-capped mountains, glaciers, and lakes.
📍G219 Kashgar to Lhasa
Some say that highways are for connecting and encountering beautiful scenery. This must be an ideal scenic avenue that connects snow-capped mountains, glaciers, and lakes. As the mountain road extends upwards and the altitude gradually increases, the slight altitude sickness brings dizziness, just like us who are "slightly drunk", and we sigh that this road is not easy. At this moment, go to experience, go deep, this is the meaning of travel.
Snowflakes fell on the car window, and outside the car was a vast expanse of whiteness. Driving in it, I felt extremely comfortable. This is probably on the road. People are exploring themselves throughout their lives. In this vast world, I seem to see infinite life. I like it here, I belong here.
Those animals lie comfortably in the meadow. If possible, I want to communicate with them. Will they feel happy?
The Xinjiang-Tibet Highway will give you the answer🗺

Tibet Self-Driving Tour Guide to Explore the 'End of the World' - Shigatse's Secret Glacier
In the previous article, we mentioned our arrival at Gangba County in Shigatse
The main purpose is to see the Qudeng Nima Glacier
So early in the morning, we set off from Gangba County
Self-driving 🚗 for an hour to reach the entrance
To see the glacier up close
We need to hike 2 kilometers
The altitude ranges from 5000 to 5200 meters
Although the ascent is only 200 meters
The high altitude means very few people come here
There are actually three parts to the Qudeng Nima Glacier
We went to the more accessible Copper Lake‼️
The Qudeng Nima Glacier is not very large, but it is one of the few glaciers that can be viewed up close, allowing you to clearly see the textures
In summer, some of the glacier melts
But the lake water remains clear and blue, very pure
It is said that in winter❄️, the lake surface freezes, and you can walk close to the glacier. For safety reasons, we did not walk along the lake this time! But it was already very impressive🏔️
Behind the glacier are snow-capped mountains, and looking out at this sacred land, it feels like the end of the world, a new life experience! Climbing to an altitude of 5200 meters to see the glacier
🔺Qudeng Nima Glacier • Copper Lake
Self-driving 🚗 can directly navigate, and when you are almost there, there is a fork in the road, just follow the road signs
‼️It takes about 1 hour to drive from Gangba County, and the round trip hike is 4 kilometers! The difficulty is not high, just the altitude!
🚗tips:‼️
✅There is a checkpoint and registration near the end, as it is close to the border, drones are not allowed! You need to store them 🛅 at the gate, and retrieve them 🔙 when you return
✅There is a parking area at the hiking entrance, where you can see many Tibetan compatriots (bathing in glacier water), and you can go up from both sides of the river, the left side is relatively easier! Return the same way after viewing the glacier
✅It's best to go in the morning, as the weather changes quickly on the plateau, and the wind is strong! It's warmer with the sun 🌞 at noon!
✅Keep warm and be aware of altitude sickness, you can bring oxygen
✅Bring less food and water, the round trip is 4 kilometers, a short journey
The Himalayan mountain range in Gangba County along National Highway 219 is a must-see self-driving route
Gangba County is located in the eastern part of Shigatse City, Tibet Autonomous Region, China, on the southern slope of the eastern section of the Himalayas. Gangba County is situated at the junction of China, Nepal, and India, bordered by Yadong County to the east, Nyalam County to the south, Tingri County to the west, and Dingjie County to the north.
It serves as a natural border between China and countries such as India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Pakistan. The Himalayas stretch from Nanga Parbat (elevation 8125 meters) in Kashmir in the west to Namcha Barwa (elevation 7782 meters) at the great bend of the Yarlung Tsangpo River in the east.
The scenery along Highway 219 is picturesque, featuring the most magnificent snow-capped mountain wonders, traversing the roof of the world.
The Qu Deng Ni Ma Glacier is at an altitude of 5200m, a 3-hour hike, just to catch a glimpse of the end of the world
The Qu Deng Ni Ma Glacier has been rated by China National Geographic as 'The Glacier at the End of the World', with an altitude of 5200m, at least 3 hours round trip. PS The ice lake looks very close, but it is actually very far away. We walked for half an hour without seeing the end, and the sun was about to set, so we went back.
1️⃣ You will probably have to climb 2-3 peaks, depending on the route you choose.
2️⃣ The closer you get to the top, the stronger the wind, and it feels like you can't stand still. My clothing index: thermal base layer➕thin down jacket➕fleece-lined storm jacket➕thick down jacket, lower body 800g cotton pants➕fleece-lined wide-leg pants.
3️⃣ High-altitude hiking is different from plain hiking, don't rush, walk slowly, rest immediately when you feel a bit tired or panting, don't push yourself, bring convenient oxygen.
4️⃣ The ice surface is very slippery, it is recommended to wear anti-slip snow boots or ice claws.
If I had known about Qudenima, why would I need to go to the glaciers in Northern Europe!
If I had known about Qudenima, why would I need to go to the glaciers in Northern Europe!

Missing this place in Tibet would be a real pity!
When the glacier comes into view, your body seems to be instantly frozen. It's so pure and shocking.
The cross-section of the glacier has a very dreamy and deep blue layer, like a sharp knife rising from the ground after the earth suddenly cracks. It's more like the beautiful tear marks of a falling planet.

One of them was closed due to road construction. Qudengnima Glacier is free of charge. It takes about five hours to touch this glacier. It passes through Zongcuo Lake. The wetland in Dingjie County is very beautiful. There is a mirror of the sky and black-necked cranes. Stay in Dingjie in the evening
