Kairouan: The Aghlabid Basins
A two and a half hour drive from the city of Tunis 🚗, and you arrive at Kairouan, one of the four holy cities of Islam.
Built in the year 670 AD, it is one of the four holy sites of Islam. It features the famous Great Mosque of Kairouan, the 'Three Doors' Mosque, and the Aghlabid Basins, among others. Tunisian Muslims believe that making a pilgrimage to Kairouan seven times is equivalent to making one pilgrimage to Mecca.
The Aghlabid Basins, ancient water reservoirs that are still well-preserved today, first purify the water in a small pool, then store it in a large pool for daily use.

In Kairouan, there are more than a hundred Islamic sacred tombs, but the most famous is a saint named Sidi Sahbe. This mausoleum is known as the Sidi Sahbe Mausoleum. Sidi Sahbe is an Islamic saint. He is said to be a close friend of the Prophet Muhammad. After returning to Tunisia from the holy land of Mecca in the 7th century, he not only brought back a large number of The verses, as well as the three precious beards of the very precious prophet. After the death of the saint, the locals built this chic Sidi Shaha tomb for him, which is also known as the Three Beard Mosques.

Medina of Kairouan Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Tunisia Travel | The Independent Kairouan
🚙155 kilometers south from the city of Tunis, we arrived at the historical capital of Kairouan in the central east of Tunisia, a city that was built 1500 years ago and is now the fourth largest city in Tunisia. This long-standing and elegant city now appears to be independent in the turbulent years, with the city's white walls and yellow buildings chanting in the wind, and the people's robes showing a firm and devout devotion in the shadows of the alleys. In addition to being awe-inspiring, I have more awe for Tunisia's heavy history!
📌A little knowledge. Tunisian Muslims believe that making a pilgrimage to the Great Mosque of Kairouan seven times is equivalent to making a pilgrimage to Mecca once. The city of Kairouan, which was built in 670, from 800 to 909, the Aghlabid dynasty established its capital here, and Kairouan has since become famous and become one of the four holy places of Islam. The city's streets are winding, shops are lined up, there are more than 80 mosques, more than 100 tombs, dozens of reservoirs and domed indoor markets.
The car went to Kairouan, and the scenery on the road changed quietly. The more open, the more desolate.
There is a beautiful cactus forest on the roadside, and a group of sheepskins. The shepherd invited me to shepherd sheep, which is especially fun. The
group was squeezed in a pile for a while, and then dispersed again. When crossing the road, it is like a big cotton ball, very cute!
Kairouan is an ancient city and a holy city. The mosque is different and very beautiful. The Medina here is perfect for taking pictures. There are not many people on the street during the day, and we are all contracted by us!
Next, where is it?
The most famous buildings in Kairouan, Tunisia are the Kailuan Grand Mosque, the Three Gates Mosque and the Agrabid Reservoir. We first came to the Agrabid Reservoir. The so-called world is full of pits, a pit and a scene haha. In fact, the accessibility of the reservoir is not great, and the photo taken at the station is finished, but an old grandfather on the restaurant platform has attracted our attention. The enthusiastic grandfather wore a big robe of celebrity style, and in that warm laughter, it instantly became our partner. Before the photo was taken, he gave me the same red beret as a prop. Locals & Flags - One of my two photo-taking elements is on a photo~
