Hongya Cave: Chongqing's Aburaya and the Symphony of 'Spirited Away'
In the mountainous and riverine city of Chongqing, there is a place called Hongya Cave, located on Binjiang Road in the Yuzhong District by the Jialing River. It is not only a bustling commercial street but also resembles the real-life counterpart of the Aburaya bathhouse from 'Spirited Away'. Today, I will take you into the story of Hongya Cave, to explore the magical connection between it and the Aburaya, and to see its unique 'one feature, three marvels, four streets, and eight sights'.
🌟 Hongya Cave: A Thousand-Layered Wonder on the Cliff
The name Hongya Cave sounds like it comes from an ancient legend. Its stilted buildings, stacked layer upon layer, seem to be built up by some mysterious force. When night falls, the colorful lights illuminate the entire complex, reminiscent of the brilliantly lit Aburaya in 'Spirited Away'.
Aburaya: The Fantasy World's Hot Spring Inn
In the pen of Hayao Miyazaki, Aburaya is a mysterious hot spring inn for deities to rest. Every corner is filled with fantasy and adventure. Hongya Cave is like the real-life version of Aburaya, where every turn may reveal a new story.
Hongya Cave's Features:
One Feature: The Fusion of Culture and Leisure
Its 'one feature' represents the cultural and leisure industry, just like the hot spring inn in Aburaya that provides a resting place for deities, Hongya Cave also offers visitors a perfect blend of culture and leisure.
Three Marvels: Stilted Buildings, Old Town Market, Ba Culture
The 'three marvels' include the stilted buildings, which are layered upon each other as if built by some mysterious force, echoing the towering structures of Aburaya. The old town market reminds one of the bustling marketplace around Aburaya, and the profound heritage of Ba culture resonates with the mysterious culture in Aburaya.
Four Streets: The Intersection of Fashion and Tradition
The 'four streets' of Hongya Cave—Dynamic Bar Street, Bayu Style Street, Feast Food Street, and Exotic Style Street on the City Balcony—each have their unique charm, just like the streets around Aburaya, where every turn brings a new discovery.
Eight Sights: The Eight Wonders of Hongya Cave
The 'eight sights' are the eight wonders of Hongya Cave, including Hongya Dripping Greenery, Confluence of the Two Rivers, Stilted Building Complex, Hongya Sculpture Group, City Balcony, Ba Culture Pillars, Riverside Food Street, and Jialing Evening Glow. Each sight has its unique charm, making one feel as if they are in the fantasy world of 'Spirited Away'.
Hongya Cave, this Aburaya of Chongqing, is a bridge between reality and fantasy. It is not only a business card of Chongqing but also a dream in everyone's heart. Here, you can find traces of history, feel the breath of culture, and experience the liveliness of life. Next time you come to Chongqing, why not step into Hongya Cave and immerse yourself in this place full of stories, to find your own adventure and dream.

I often travel in cities and outdoors, always recording the beautiful moments. I've been using the Telecom Mountain City card, with 100G of data every month, always ready to share the scenery with family and friends. The transmission speed is not affected in the mountains or some old residential areas, video calls with family and friends are very smooth, and photo transfers are very fast~

✅Almost every corner of the temple is scenic, with the 20-plus-meter ancient Buddha rock, the Luohan Hall with 524 clay sculptures, the Mahavira Hall, the Sutra Collection Pavilion, the Abbot's Room, the Zen Hall, and the terrace behind the Fortune & Joy Coffee. Pay special attention that photography is not allowed inside the Buddha halls.

✅The cultural and creative products of Luohan Temple are also very impressive, especially the eighteen-seed and cat's eye stone bracelets.

In Chongqing! Really regret not going there earlier to explore!!!!
Luohan Temple is truly a hidden ancient temple in the city, right next to Xiaoshizi metro station, tucked away in the bustling area. Many locals come here to pray for blessings and fortune, and it's super effective!
The Luohan Temple in April is truly beautiful, with a view at every step, and the citrus flowers are blooming, surrounding the whole temple with their fragrance. Luohan Cultural and Creative has also released citrus-scented cards, which have a fresh and natural scent that smells so good!
Inside there's also a cafe, where I ordered a Fortune and Happiness coffee and sat down for a bit.
The temple's Wealth Ice Cream, shaped like a treasure basin, tastes rich in milk flavor!
My friend and I got two strings of blessing beads, the Good Fortune Lotus Lotus, which has a fairy-like color scheme... so suitable for summer...
The Five Directions God of Wealth is really effective!
There are also handwritten signs, postcards, and God of Wealth stickers that you can get for 🆓
You can even bring a notebook to get stamped as a souvenir! You can really spend the whole day inside 😌

We asked 33 people from Chongqing, and they all said that this place is the most effective for praying for wealth and blessings
Ancient and modern are framed together, greatly hidden in the city
This thousand-year-old temple, which was built during the Zhiping years of the Northern Song Dynasty, is hidden among the high-rise buildings in Chongqing. The black tiles and yellow walls in the bustling city give a strong sense of oppression, making this place even more sacred and solemn.
Here, watching the curling smoke and listening to the faint Sanskrit, the soul is purified, calm and beautiful.
Local people in Chongqing say that it is very effective to pray for wealth and blessings here. At the beginning of the new year, they specifically come to pray for a $ fortune~

Chongqing Travel | Luohan Temple Check-in Guide
Looking over the whole of Chongqing, Luohan Temple is a very explosive existence!
✥
The location is unique, right in the most prosperous Jiefangbei downtown, it is a hidden paradise in the city.
✥
Luohan Temple, founded in the Northern Song Dynasty. Named after the Arhat Cave. Entering the temple gate, what comes into view is the statue of the Four Heavenly Kings, lifelike in their expressions.
Next is a smiling Maitreya, next to it is a stone door carved with the Ten Directions Jungle. Behind the stone door are more than 400 cliff carvings of Buddha statues from the Song Dynasty. Passing through the Buddha statues, to the left is the Daxiong Hall, and to the right is the Arhat Hall.
The Arhat Hall has 524 Arhat statues. There are multiple doors in the hall to enter. Counting the Arhats is the way of predicting fortune in the Arhat Hall. Starting at random, the venerable ones counted in order may contain pearls that can answer your questions. Even if you don't believe in gods and Buddhas, looking at the different expressions, appearances, clothes, and actions of the venerable ones, you will also marvel at the artistic level of the ancients.
The incense outside the main hall is always prosperous. There are countless good men and women who come here to seek good luck and pray for blessings. On the left side facing the main hall is the CAI Temple. Here are enshrined the five CAI gods of East, West, South, North, and Middle. It is also one of the only two temples in the country that enshrine the five CAI gods.
-
The architecture of Luohan Temple is well preserved and beautifully shaped. Black as the base, supplemented by gold outlines. It looks very good in the sun. No matter how you take pictures, you will marvel at the grandeur of the temple architecture. Every eave, bracket, and heavy beam, not only accumulates the weight of history, but also the devotion of the craftsmen.
-
It is especially suitable to take photos in Chinese style here. There are often little sisters in cheongsam and Hanfu coming here to check in. But please note the taboos of taking pictures:
✤Do not take pictures of Buddha statues
✤Scenes where the monks in the temple collectively chant and practice cannot be photographed
✤The second floor is where the monks rest, tourists stop
✤It is not recommended to wear short skirts or more revealing clothes
Apart from the admission fee, this is really worth a visit to the only 5A scenic spot in Chongqing's main city.
