I love Isle of Wight!
Isle of Wight is an island in the south of England, my family and I departed from Southampton harbour at 8am red funnel red jet, and arrived at Isle of Wight in half an hour!
The specific itinerary is as follows:
Boat: Book your tickets in advance on the RED FUNNEL FERRIES app.
a. Fast boat, 30min to west cowes pier.
b. Slow boat, 1h to east cowes pier.
Public transport:
a.to west cowes pier, not far walk to line 1, you can take it to the city centre Newport station to change to the attraction; b.to east cowes pier, not far walk to line 1, you can take it to the city centre Newport station to change to the attraction.
b. Go to east cowes wharf and take line 5 to the city centre platform.
Remember to get on the bus and talk to the driver about buying a one-day ticket, which allows you to ride the bus for a day, and remember to bring your student card, which gives you a 20% discount.
Get a map of the Isle of Wight at the Newport bus station, buses are recommended to sit on the first floor, the scenery along the way is also very beautiful!
Attractions and routes:
The Needles
The Needles is a must-see attraction! Take either line 7 or 12 from the city centre.
You can also buy a nice and delicate glass ring from the glass souvenir shop!
Osborne House
Osborne House is a 20-minute ride from the city centre on line 5, and the sunny gardens are a great place to take photos!
Shanklin Beach
Take the line 5 from Osborne House and transfer to line 2 to Shanklin Beach, where you can enjoy the beach.
There are lots of cities with beautiful beaches, quite some other places with landscaped mountain cliffs, and some other places beautiful calm country sides. But it is rare that we get to see all of them together at one place. That is Isle of Wight located in the south western part of UK, near to the cities Southampton and Portsmouth.
Island residents are most the elderly and except for 2 or 3 big employers most of the other residents here are in the tourism and allied industries. Given the tranquil nature of this place, it is mostly the families with kids who come to this place. This island is also a favorite for sailors who come in droves from all over UK to spread out their sails. Unfortunately, island does not seem to offer much for the party and mall seekers. There are some shops and pubs but nothing like those in the other cities of UK.
Within the island, east and west Cowes is for the sailors since this is place where all the yachts and boats are anchored. On the other side are the downs of Ventnor, Sandtown and Shanklin which have some beautiful beaches and some great views across too. Needles point offers some excellent views and the cable car to go down the cliff is wroth taking.
For those who are interested in walking, there are excellent pathways for both walkers and cyclists all across the island. Walking I guess is the best way to digest the beauty of the whole island. Some of the paths are adjacent to steep cliffs which adds to the thrill.
There are lots of hotels ranging right from 30 pounds. Going around in public transport is also easy with good bus service being present. One should not miss the open air island coaster which takes around all the places around the island.
Day at the Isle of Wight!
Travelled to the Isle of Wight for a nice summer’s day trip. We took the Wightlink ferry from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier. Explored around the island on the buses and visited many beaches such as Ryde beach. You can also visit Shanklin and Compton beaches on the island line train service. The needles was a great attraction with a chairlift showing some great views! #isleofwight #Summer #mountainview
