Heligoland - Germanys magical one and only high seas island

Most islands of germany are close to the coast, but not this one: You can go there by different ferrys for example from Cuxhaven in 1-2 hours or even from Hamburg in 3,5-4 hours! This is what i highly recomend, because you´ll have a nice yourney on a catameran highspeed ship which goes down the elbe river (on a slow pace!) and afterwards 1 hour on the sea. Helgoland itself is a magical place: Picture perfect colorful fisher huts and an extraordinary landscape. You can also shop duty free there or visit the small museum. Walking around the "Oberland" is a special unusual nature experience. #tripaway Day trip to Helgoland, all my British friends might know it as Heligoland.Really nice place, I'm just sad I didn't get to see any seals. The history of this place is hilarious though:First, it used to be British until 1890, so on this tiny piece of land, there are some Germans who can proudly celebrate independence from British colonial rule, that was new to me.Interesting place with interesting historical background . #tripaway
