Takao Mountain, a recommended trekking course near Tokyo!
Recommended mountain for climbing near Tokyo!
The distance is close, so you can get there quickly. Along the trekking course, there are many temples, and the view from the top is truly beautiful.
There are also many ancient trees that are hundreds of years old.
You can take a cable car up to a certain point.
If you have time, I highly recommend visiting at least once.
🇯🇵 Baskin Robbins Tokyo
The happiest ice cream for the children and the adults. Baskin Robbins always have many special and unique flavours and they always have the best designs overseas. Some of these special flavours only can be found in South Korean and Japan. Now in Japan, the special character is Pokemon and you can get unique Pokemon characters flavoured ice cream. These are so cute and there are proper tables and chairs for dine in too. You also can buy takeaway and the staff will pack it nicely in an ice cream box. You also can get cute 3D character cakes without reservations.

#timetotravel
This is the main trail to the peak and is recommended to the beginner hikers as the cable car and chair-lift are also available.
The Monkey Park, the Wild Plant Garden, cedar street, Tako sugi (Octopus Shaped Cedar) and Takao-san Yakuo-in Temple are on this trail. There are a lot of resting places and restaurants. It is recommended for hikers those who want to enjoy the trail to the peak at a slow pace.
The nearest mountain with Tokyo !!
Mount Takao !! Another beautiful hike just one hour local train ride form Shinjuku!!! They have special train line called Keio line and , it took one hour direct from Shinjuku and it cost me 388 ¥ for one way . And make sure you take the train until end station , the name I put in the photo. And you have a choice here , either hike up and down all the way or take cable car/ chair lift ( same price -450¥ one way ) and walk down . I was there on cloudy day , if sunny day , can see Mount Fuji from the summit of mount Takao . And also beautiful sunset , because the sun set over the mountain and went down to the opposite sea . But , make sure you come back in time if you want to take ( chair lift-4 pm last ) , ( cable car -6:00 pm last ) I might need to go again one more time on the sunny day🤭🤭😜!! Those who like to hike like me , make sure to hike mount Takao while you are in Tokyo !! See you all on the other side of the world 🌎!!.

JED Travel and Tour Businesses Catching Mt Fuji on Mt Takao 😍
Feeling adventurous? Try hiking in Japan! Mount Takao is about an hour train ride from Shinjuku Station. Our plan was to hike up the mountain to get some exercise during our holiday. We were blessed with really good weather, so much so that we are able to see Mount Fuji clearly at the peak! It was really a lovely surprise as we had already plan to head over to Mount Fuji area the next day.
At the base, there are restaurants and shops which you can have a meal or some snacks before hiking. You can choose to hike up all the way or take a cable car ride up first and continue to hike. This was what we did as we wanted to check out the cable car. It was fun and if you want to choose either to take it up or down, I would suggest taking it when you are returning as the view is better. #japan #mounttakao #mustvisit #mustdo

JED Travel and Tour Businesses Climbing Mount Takao!!
The area around Mount Takao was designated as Meiji no Mori Takao Quasi-National Park in 1967. It preserves a rich natural environment, including forests of warm and temperate zones, centuries-old cedars, various plants, wild birds, and flying squirrels. Just an hour from the city center, it's a popular spot for leisurely hiking, attracting many climbers.
Mount Takao offers several hiking courses, including six nature trails. The main 'Trail No. 1' features many attractions and gourmet spots, including Yakuoin Temple. With the use of a cable car or lift, you can easily climb even in casual wear. There are also plenty of restrooms, making it feel similar to walking in the city.
Taking the Cable Car: An Easy Way to Reach Mount Takao
Mount Takao, located in the western part of Tokyo, is renowned for its magnificent scenery and diverse hiking trails. Taking the Mount Takao cable car is a great experience, allowing you to easily enjoy the surrounding beauty. The cable car starts at Takaosanguchi Station and the journey takes about 5 minutes, offering views of the trees and valleys along the way.
At the top of the cable car ride, we can easily walk to the summit and enjoy a 360-degree spectacular view. On clear days, there is a chance to see the stunning landscapes of Tokyo city and Mount Fuji.
If you visit Tokyo City and wants to experience easy hiking trip, go to Mt. Takao!!
Hiking Trail 6 upwards and descending through Trail 1 and then taken chair lift to the base station.
Weather was cool and a little sunny which was totally bearable. We chose Trail 6 because we wanted a nature trail and walk through the waterfalls. This trail is more of surprises.
Stony path, ponds and water flowing areas, waterfalls, buzzing bees, and huge trees and their roots, 100s of steps and wet lands. There are information board and it will lead us through correct trails.
Trail does not have any food stalls or wending machines for drinks. It is advisable to carry your own. The whole walking trail is maintained well, and it is expected same from everyone using. Take your dust home.
I felt the most tiring part of this trail was climbing those 100s of steps. But otherwise the whole hike was the best experience.
There is emergency service in case you feel ill, trimble or have a fall in between your track and they are always available.
On the top, you have washroom, vending machine, food stalls and information center.
We took part in stamp collection rally. So we have to collect 5 stamps to get the wooden bamboo hand fan 🪭
Getting down we took Trail 1, it was through beautiful shrines. There is a food stall where I took sweet Tango. Then as it started heavily raining we took chairlift. The cost for one side was ¥450 per person. It was a nice experience. They close at 16:30.
My experience with whole trek was pretty convenient, information desk is very helpful as they tell you every detail of the trail (if you are hiking first time, I suggest to visit the information desk at the Takaosanguchi station). Carry on energy food and drinks, have an umbrella handy (weather might change suddenly).
Something different in Tokyo Mount Takao
#myhiddengems Been to Tokyo several times, but I haven't been to this place. There's a lot to see and do in Mt Takao. We took the tram from the foot of Mt Takao and climbed for around 1.5 hour to reach the peak to find this view [the third photo]. There were many things to see as we climbed. Several different routes and we chose the temple for king of medicine route. After the climb, we enjoyed this grape softee while waiting for the tram to get down to the foot of Mt Takao.
Best day trip hike from Tokyo: Mount Fuji from Mount Takao!
Best day trip hike from Tokyo, easy and beautiful hike away from the city. Really lovely view of Mount Fuji, taken during Sakura season.
Hiking to the 600m summit takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes from the mountain base. If not, cable cars and chair lifts are also available to the top.
From Tokyo’s Shinjuku Station, take the JR Chuo Line to Takao Station to begin the hike!

A Tranquil and Sacred Visit to Hachioji Castle Ruins and Hachioji Shrine
Nestled quietly in the serene forests of the Hachioji Castle ruins, Hachioji Shrine sits amidst lush greenery. Although the shrine is not large in scale, it exudes a sacred and peaceful atmosphere. As I stepped onto the stone steps and walked slowly towards the shrine, the surrounding natural environment seemed to be guarding this holy place. The forest around the shrine and the ancient architecture complement each other, giving a sense of time and space intertwining. This visit not only allowed me to feel the profound traditional religious culture of Japan but also deepened my respect for this historical site.
Visiting Historical Sites: The Tranquil Beauty of Hachioji Castle Ruins
Hachioji Castle Ruins is an important site from Japan's Sengoku period, filled with a sense of history. As I stepped into this serene forest, it felt like traveling back in time, immersing myself in the atmosphere of an ancient battlefield. Walking along the trail, I discovered well-preserved stone walls and magnificent castle site views. Each stone here seems to tell the tales of fierce battles and historical stories of the past. The observation deck at the mountain top offers a breathtaking view of the entire Hachioji area. This visit deeply impressed upon me the profound and beautiful history of Japan, making it an unmissable cultural exploration destination.
A Day Trip to Mount Takao in Tokyo
In autumn, you can spend a day in Tokyo exploring Mount Takao and enjoying the fall foliage. If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji.
The trip from the city center takes about an hour, making it a convenient and friendly itinerary. The nearest station to Mount Takao is Keio Line's Takaosanguchi Station. Simply enter 'Takaosanguchi Station' into Google Maps to get the transportation route from your starting point, which is very convenient.
Upon arriving at Takaosanguchi Station, there are convenience stores where you can buy some snacks and water for the hike. If you prefer not to walk, you can take a short walk to the cable car station 'Kiyotaki Station' and ride the cable car to 'Takaosan Station' halfway up the mountain. From there, you will need to hike to reach the summit.
Along the way, you'll pass by temples, giant cedar trees, and more. There's a popular stall selling soy sauce-glazed rice dumplings, a favorite rest stop for hikers. The soy sauce-glazed sesame dumplings are delicious, and customers can also enjoy free hot tea provided by the stall.
After reaching the summit, depending on the weather, you might be able to see Mount Fuji. In mid to late December, there are a few days when you can witness the 'Diamond Fuji' phenomenon at sunset, where the sun sets directly on top of Mount Fuji, creating a dazzling sight like a diamond. During these days, the cable car extends its operating hours.
After descending the mountain and returning to the station, you can choose to relax at the nearby Keio Takaosan Onsen Gokurakuyu, soak in the hot springs, and enjoy a meal to relieve your fatigue, making for a perfect day.
The Closest Natural Attraction to Tokyo: Mount Takao
Just about an hour's drive from the heart of Tokyo, Mount Takao is a popular destination. Although it's not very high with an elevation of only 599 meters, it's perfect for first-time hikers.
There are many lookout points on Mount Takao with great views, from where you can see Tokyo Skytree and the bustling city center of Tokyo and Yokohama. On clear winter days, you can even catch a glimpse of the beautiful Mount Fuji from the summit.
There are two different types of cable cars to choose from on Mount Takao: a funicular that provides a smooth ride even on slopes, and a suspension cable car that lets you feel the breeze and take in the surrounding forest. Using the cable cars, you can easily ascend and descend the mountain without having to hike.
One of the charms of Mount Takao is the well-maintained hiking trails. While there are some slopes and slightly strenuous sections, there are also easy routes prepared for children or those who are not confident in their physical strength. Additionally, there are many places worth seeing along the trails.
How to Get to Mount Takao
1. Walk from 'Shinjuku Station' to 'Keio Line Shinjuku Station'.
2. Take the first express train towards Takaosanguchi from 'Keio Line Shinjuku Station' and get off at 'Takaosanguchi Station'.
