The most dreamy small fishing village in Japan
#japantrip
In any summer in the capital city, you can never imagine the existence of the Tokugawa Kyoto Igen Funhouse: with a glass sea. The Japanese "Venice" is known as: taking the Danhai bus that runs once an hour from Miyazu Station or Tenkyo Station, and taking the "Igen Pujin Line" to the "Igen" bus stop. It is recommended to play with Tenkyo Station (Tenkyo Station is introduced on my homepage, you can use a little homepage to check it out). After enjoying Tenkyo Station, take a B taxi to Igen, rent a bicycle for sightseeing and inspection, ride along the coastline, take photos, check in at the most beautiful Kaku Prefectural Hall, and check in at Igen. Fish Harbor Observation Deck, then return the car to the office, and then take a bus from Egan Station to "Egan Bay Meguro. Sunrise" Station to feed the seagulls by boat. On the 24th of the eighth month, the Igen Fireworks Festival will take place at the Tagami Mountain parking lot in Igen cho. If we catch this evening, we can still watch the fireworks festival by the seaside, which would be so beautiful. Egan Tourist Inspection Office: The interior provides tourist information and offers free bicycle rental. The second floor is a restaurant that sells seafood bowls and seafood dishes. The most dreamy small fishing village in Japan. About 1 hour.

A Ryokan Retreat in Gero Onsen
Nestled in the charming town of Gero Onsen, Mutsumikan stands as a haven of serenity and indulgence. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by its traditional Japanese charm and warm hospitality.
The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the gastronomic journey presented through the Kaiseki dinner. The exquisite spread showcased the culinary artistry of the Mutsumikan chefs, and the pièce de résistance was undoubtedly the succulent Wagyu beef.
As night fell, we made our way to the hot spring, anticipating a relaxing and rejuvenating soak. To our delight, we discovered that we were the only ones present, granting us the luxury of undisturbed privacy. The therapeutic waters worked their magic, melting away our stress and leaving us refreshed and invigorated.
Staying at Mutsumikan in Gero Onsen was a truly unforgettable experience. The fusion of exceptional cuisine, hot spring, and genuine hospitality created a sanctuary of relaxation and luxury. Gero Onsen: One of Japan's Top Three Hot Springs
Gero Onsen boasts genuine natural hot springs with a high spring temperature of 84 degrees Celsius. The water is alkaline, colorless, transparent, with a faint fragrance, and incredibly smooth. It is gentle on the skin, making it feel silky smooth, which is why it is often referred to as 'Beauty Bath.'
Located in Gero City, Gifu Prefecture, the nearest station to Gero Onsen is JR Tokai Takayama Main Line's Gero Station. As the gateway to Gero Onsen, all trains, including limited express trains, stop at Gero Station. If traveling from Tokyo, it is convenient to take the Shinkansen or express bus to Nagoya Station. For those who wish to explore the Gero Onsen area without worrying about time, traveling by car is recommended.

Gero Onsen (Part 2)
Maybe not quite used to sleeping on the floor, I didn't sleep very well last night. But the enchanting morning mist among the mountains of Gero easily wakes one up. A shallow, stone-filled river flows through the town. At the end of August, the river water is icy cold. Many people wade in the water, fish, and occasionally enjoy the hot spring water that emerges, sitting around stone stools for a foot bath. The mascot of Gero is a frog, and frog-related items can be seen everywhere here. Frog pudding, frog buns, manhole covers with frog designs, and even a frog shrine. Another pleasant sound in Gero is the JR train that passes over the creek from time to time, as if bidding farewell to departing travelers. Next stop, Takayama.

【Gassho Village】A Must-See When Visiting Gero Onsen!
It's about a 15-minute walk from Gero Onsen to Gassho Village.
Unlike Shirakawa-go, there is an admission fee of 1,000 yen (for adults), but it's worth it for the impressive sights. Inside the buildings, there are exhibits placed around, and the lifestyle of the past is preserved as it was.
The footbath located in the center of Gassho Village is fantastic. It was very pleasant, especially in the cold of winter! Towels cost 200 yen, so if you're staying at a hot spring inn, it might be a good idea to bring the small towel you receive there!

The hidden gem of Gero Onsen, is right at the Tounosawa Ryokan
Tounosawa Ryokan is an old and traditional Japanese-style hot spring inn, located on the highlands of Gero Onsen, with a long history, and is recognized by the Japanese government as a 'registered tangible cultural property'.
The inn is divided into three floors, including guest rooms, hot springs, and a restaurant. All rooms are designed in Japanese style, and most of them come with a private open-air hot spring pool. In the hot spring area, there are also public baths and open-air scenic baths.
The hot spring water of Tounosawa Ryokan is alkaline, which is a natural soap, and the body feels smooth and comfortable after washing. In its more than 600 years of history, the hot spring water has never been interrupted and continues to flow to this day. After soaking in the hot spring, you can also enjoy paid massage services.
The meals provided by the inn are multi-course set meals, which need to be confirmed before check-in or after the meal. Breakfast is a traditional Japanese cuisine set meal, which can be enjoyed in the room or in the restaurant.
Location: 645 Tounosawa, Gero City, Gifu Prefecture.
Transportation: From JR Gero Station, you can walk to the inn, which only takes 15 minutes.
Check-in time: Between 15:00 and 18:00.

Come to the Gero Onsen Gassho Village to see the architectural cultural heritage exhibition
Gero Onsen Gassho Village is a village recreated by 10 gassho-style houses moved from places like Shirakawa Village, led by the 'Old Otu House', a nationally designated important cultural property of Japan. It is a precious open-air museum for understanding the lives of the residents at that time.
In the Gassho Village, the interior landscape of the old Iwasaki family (Folklore Museum), a tangible cultural property of Japan, and the old Toyama family (Itakura) are displayed. There are also workshops where you can participate in ceramic art or washi paper painting experiences, restaurants where you can taste Hida's delicacies, and the 'Four Seasons Forest' behind the mountain where you can enjoy cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. The Gassho Village, which still inherits the simple quality of Hida people, is a 'spiritual home' that makes people feel warm.
Every season of the year, it presents different scenery, cherry blossoms are in full bloom, grass is fragrant, autumn wind is dawn, winter snow is white. Whether it's wandering between various shrines or resting in different tea rooms, it's a great experience. You can also soak your feet in the Gassho foot bath to soothe your tired body.
Location: 2369 Mori, Gero City, Gifu Prefecture.
Opening hours: 8:30 to 17:00, open all year round.
Transportation information: Take a train or bus from various places to Gero Station, or Nohi Bus Center, take the 'Gassho Village·Gero Exchange Hall' direction Gassho Village line, and get off at Gassho Village.
Fees: 800 yen for adults, 400 yen for children.

Exploring the Japanese Hot Spring Journey: Gero Onsen's Island Pavilion, enjoy the beauty of nature
Gero Onsen, as one of the 'Three Famous Springs' in Japan, its history can be traced back to the Edo period. Gero was also one of the old post stations at that time, and now there are about 50 hotels, inns, and island pavilions and other accommodation facilities, among which the Island Pavilion is undoubtedly the most attractive. This hot spring hotel with a history of more than 80 years has been listed as a tangible cultural property.
The Island Pavilion is simply a god-like existence in my mind. Gero itself is a very charming city, hot springs and pine forests form the background of this hot spring hotel, the architecture, decoration, and service all make you feel like you are knocking on the door of nature, feeling the beauty of nature. The dinner and desserts are also very delicious, I know it would be rude to ask for another one, but I couldn't help but force my sister to go. She forced the waiter, they were embarrassed but had to maintain 100 points of politeness, which made this dessert our best memory.
If you want to enjoy a perfect hot spring journey in Gero, I strongly recommend booking a room type with one night and two meals, although the price is slightly higher, but it is definitely worth it!

Exploring Onsen Town in Gifu Prefecture
So, let me tell you about this incredible place I stumbled upon called Gero Onsen. Retro-looking and tucked away in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, it's one of those hidden gems you can't help but fall in love with. Now, here's the best part: walking around town in a yukata that my hotel hooked me up with!
As I strolled along Hida River, I felt like I'd stepped into a time machine. But let's not forget the main event: the hot springs! Gero Onsen is famous for them, and boy, did they live up to the hype. I soaked in those mineral-rich waters, and all my worries just melted away. It was like a vacation for my mind and muscles.
The surrounding mountains were calling my name. I went hiked up the tallest hill to discover an important temple and graveyards, where residents asked for recovery from ailments.
Gero Onsen, my new happy place. It's a haven where time slows down, stress floats away, and you can just be yourself. Whether you're slipping into a yukata, dipping into healing waters, or feasting on mouthwatering dishes, this place has got it all.

On the last day of Nagoya, I went to Gero and spent the warmest afternoon. There is an open-air hot spring on the lower Lu River. When you are tired, you can take off your shoes and soak your feet.
At the beginning of the whole pool, only two people and my family had a foot bath. Later, a pair of young Japanese couples took a pair of BBs to soak their feet. Mom rolled up the BB and let him put a little jio. Into the hot springs, BB giggles and laughs. Later, I came to a family. Mom and Dad pushed the wheelchair. The little boy was in a wheelchair. The calf was holding the bracket. There was no muscle on the leg. It should be a sequela of polio, and there was his sister next to him. Mom and Dad took care of the boy from the wheelchair and unloaded his leg support. The little boy's skinny legs slowly immersed in the hot springs, watching me see the smiling face on his face. Mom and Dad and their sister sit on the side of the boy and take out their mobile phones to take a family photo.
Regardless of whether life gives us sugar or bitter medicine, family is a safe haven forever.

In the Shiro Onsen Temple in Japan, visit the Hongye Scenic Area
Gero Hot Spring Street along Feiyuchuan. It takes only 10 minutes to walk from the hot spring street to the Hot Spring Temple, but you must visit the pharmacist Buddha and climb the 173 steps. It took a cemetery to reach the hot spring temple on the mountain. In Japan, because the ancestors will be blessed for generations, the cemetery is where the feng shui treasures are, and the burial ground next to the houses is quite normal. Walking into the gate of the Hot Spring Temple, facing the top of the main hall, it is the most lively maple leaf group in the most colorful color seen on this trip. At the front of the door, there is an inconspicuous stone Buddha statue, which is the pharmacist who has been legendized as an egret. It is said that in addition to blessing the local residents, the pharmacists in the hot spring temple can enjoy the endless hot springs, and the spring water can be used to treat some disease in a certain place.
The soup pharmacist comes to the deity.
Hot Spring Temple is built on the mountainside. It is small in size but quite a hole in the sky. There is a soup in the right hand in the gate, facing the main hall. In front of the Buddha, the foot of the maple is not colliding here, but it is very harmonious. Going around the hall, there is still a small inari shrine. The maple trees are quite old, and the branches are tall and lush, and a maple trail is built. Continue along the path and you will be able to reach the famous Yunoshima Onsen Hotel in Gero.
6 points before the night, Lu has been accompanied by autumn rain. At this time, the hot spring temple is brightly lit. Under the maple trees, the lights emitted by the high-wattage lights illuminate the night sky. Under the setting of the night, the color of the maple leaves is more dazzling than during the day.
