Kyoto Yodo Waterway Cherry Blossom Viewing
Kyoto Yodo Waterway is a famous early spring cherry blossom viewing spot in the Kansai region. Located in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City, approximately 200 to 300 'Kawazu Sakura' cherry trees from Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture are planted along the riverbank. These cherry blossoms are known for their vibrant pink color and longer blooming period, usually starting to bloom from early February and lasting until mid to late March. They bloom earlier than the commonly seen Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms, making it the earliest cherry blossom viewing spot in Kyoto.
How to get there:
Take the Keihan Electric Railway to 'Yodo Station', and walk about 8-10 minutes from Exit 4 to reach the cherry blossom path. There are signposts along the way, making it easy to find.
Address: Yodoshinmachi, Fushimi Ward, Kyoto, 613-0906 Japan

3.26 Kyoto Cherry Blossoms 🌸Live Broadcast
Help! I originally thought that I would miss the cherry blossom season this year and become a "cherry blossom refugee", and I felt very disappointed. But when I rushed to Fushimi early this morning, I was shocked by the beauty in front of me. This wave of cherry blossoms was beyond my expectations and it was breathtakingly beautiful!
I have seen many people complaining these days that due to the weather, the cherry blossoms in Kyoto bloomed very late this year, and many people found themselves empty-handed when they first went there. Before setting off, I was also very nervous, fearing that the trip would be in vain. It was not until I stepped into Fushimi and saw the cherry blossoms that looked like clouds and rosy clouds that I felt relieved.
Looking up, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, with clusters of flowers so numerous that the branches were bent down by their weight. As the breeze blows, pink petals fall like snowflakes, as romantic as a dream. Standing under the cherry blossom tree, it feels like you have traveled into a romantic Japanese anime scene in a second.
What’s even better is that there aren’t many people in Fushimi in the morning, so you can take photos leisurely and immerse yourself in this limited romance of spring. I am so lucky to witness this cherry blossom feast with my own eyes.
Friends who are planning to come to Kyoto to enjoy the cherry blossoms in the near future, make arrangements quickly! According to the current situation, the flowering period will probably last for a few more days. It is recommended that you get up early to avoid the crowds and enjoy your own cherry blossom viewing time.

Chasing Sakura at Fushimi
#cherryblossom25 Kawazu cherry blossoms are early bloomers and are relatively fewer in number near Osaka and Kyoto compared to the Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms.
Somei Yoshino has a lighter shade of pink to white, and each has its own beauty.
This group of Kawazu cherry trees is located in the residential area of Fushimi between Osaka and Kyoto, near the ”Yodo“ station on the Keihan Main Line, making it easily accessible.

Matsuya: A Hidden Gem for Traditional Japanese Senbei
Located in Fukakusa Ichinotsubocho near the famous Fushimi Inari Shrine, Matsuya is a charming Japanese confectionery shop with a history that dates back to the 1930s. This small, unassuming store has been lovingly run by an elderly couple who have perfected the art of crafting senbei, traditional Japanese rice crackers, over the decades.
Senbei, a beloved Japanese snack, comes in a variety of shapes, sizes, and flavors. At Matsuya, you’ll find an assortment of these crispy treats, ranging from classic savory varieties to some lightly sweetened options. What makes this shop particularly special is their handmade, egg-free, and oil-free senbei, a testament to their commitment to traditional and simple craftsmanship.
A highlight of Matsuya’s offerings is their adorable fox-shaped senbei, a nod to the shrine’s iconic fox guardians. These crackers not only taste delicious but also make for a thoughtful and thematic snack to enjoy or take as a souvenir during your visit to Fushimi Inari.
With its nostalgic atmosphere and dedication to quality, Matsuya is more than just a shop—it’s a slice of history and tradition. Stop by to experience authentic Japanese flavors, support a local family business, and pick up some unique snacks to complement your shrine visit. #newyearnewtrip

The most popular item at Fushimi Mizu Sakagura Koji is the "Sake Tasting Set of 17 Breweries: Suisui." One recommended sake is selected from each of the 17 breweries. What's more, the order is decided, starting from the top left, just like a course meal.
We start with "Hafuzekkutou" from "Masuda Tokubei Shoten," which is slightly sweet like white wine and perfect as an aperitif, and "Nigori Sake" named after Gekkeikan, and as we move to the second tier, the alcohol changes to a full-bodied sake.
As you progress from light to rich dishes, the taste of the sake you pair with also changes gradually. It's as if the chef is guiding you through the pairing of sake with food.

[Kyoto Prefecture] Enjoy inari sushi near Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine!
This restaurant is located on the back approach to Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. It is a long-established restaurant that has been in business for nearly 100 years, located right next to Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. They sell "Inari sushi," an indispensable item at Fushimi Inari, under the eaves of the restaurant. Takeout orders can be placed from just one piece, making it perfect for eating while walking around. What's more, the price was reasonable at 150 yen per piece. If you order a rice bowl dish such as udon, you can eat inside the restaurant. The interior of the restaurant had a Showa retro feel.
The inari sushi was just the right amount of sweet and very delicious.

Fushimi Inari Shrine
One of my favourite shrine to visit i. Kyoto. Word of advice is to go early (before 8am) as it gets really crowded and it will be difficult to take photos. There’s no entrance fee to go in either. Although the front part of the shrine has a large crowd, this shrine was worth going as there is a nice hike up to the hill behind it that has many other tinier areas if worship. The hike itself takes about an hour (due to stopping for souvenirs and photos as well) and its beautiful thus worth the effort (a proper workout!). The hike around the hill can be done clockwise or counter. Counter clockwise (starting from the vending machine) is MUCH easier.
This Shinto shrine, known for its thousands of vibrant red torii gates, offers an enchanting walk that winds its way up Mount Inari. Despite the crowd, there's a sense of tranquility that makes the hike feel personal and reflective.
The path is punctuated with smaller shrines and occasional viewpoints overlooking Kyoto, which add layers of enjoyment to the visit. Though I didn't make it all the way to the mountain's summit, the journey itself felt fulfilling.

Japan dump! ❤️
Japan dump 🇯🇵
One thing I miss most about Japan was definitely the weather. I miss the late night strolls in the cold, I miss layering, I miss having ice cream with freezing hands.
I guess above all, I just miss not having to work lol

Every time I go to a must-eat restaurant in Japan, it is always fully booked in the evening. Regardless of the price, lunch is basically half of the restaurant price, so it’s better to have lunch. This time I went to the Fushimi store in Kyoto. It was a spacious place with not many people. The food was top notch. If you want to eat there next time and are in Kyoto, you can try this restaurant, which can be booked online. If there is no seat, then your trip will be in vain!
