Fengwei Ancient City: A Hidden Coastal Town in Quanzhou
In recent years, Quanzhou has become a popular tourist destination, attracting many visitors. However, most tourists tend to stay within the city center. If you're looking to explore a more off-the-beaten-path destination, consider visiting Fengwei Ancient City in Quangang District. This ancient city boasts a history of 600 years and remains largely uncommercialized, preserving the local lifestyle.
To get here from other provinces or cities, you can take a high-speed train to Quangang Station, which has been operational since 2023. For accommodation, you might consider the Fuan International Hotel, a relatively new and one of the better hotels in Quangang.
Fengwei Town in Quangang District is built along the coast, with many residents making a living from the sea. Fengwei Ancient City, located in Fengwei Town, is the only ancient city in Quangang. Historically built for coastal defense, it was once known as 'Little Shanghai.' Today, the ancient city still retains many local stone houses and features several unique museums and residences, such as the Dongyue Temple, Yilie Temple, and the former residence of Liu Sanquan. The Guifeng Tower, a landmark building of the ancient city, is a must-see attraction where you can enjoy sea views, listen to the waves, and watch the sunrise and sunset over the horizon.
🐟 Due to its coastal location, Fengwei offers incredibly fresh seafood. You can find a seafood stall in Fengwei to try some local delicacies. While in Quangang, it's also recommended to try the famous Qianhuang Fugui and Tuling Pig's Feet. If you have enough time, you can visit the colorful stone houses in Zhangjiao Village in Tuling or experience the 'Sky Mirror' at the Shanyao Salt Field in Quangang.
