Wuhan's backyard, a place to relax in the mountains.
When the osmanthus flowers are in bloom, it's hard to resist the urge to travel, so this week we embarked on a fun team-building trip. We chose a new homestay 1.5 hours' drive from Wuhan, where we could enjoy the fun of relaxing in the mountains in a stylish wild luxury space. Located halfway up the mountain, this artistic white house is surrounded by tea fields and green trees, with a view of the village below, the Baimata Pagoda, and Dongfang Mountain in the distance.
Rooms
The homestay has 3 floors and 8 rooms, each of which is very large. Bathtubs, smart toilets, and mini-fridges are all available. Some rooms have large terraces, some have access to the courtyard, some have direct access to the pool, and some have tatami mats. The views from the windows are different in each room.
Public Areas
There are many indoor public areas, all of which are decorated with an artistic touch, making them perfect for company team-building or family trips. There is a book bar, pool table, KTV, chess and card room, and restaurant. There is also a large solid wood tea table, where a group of people can drink tea, chat, and play murder mystery games. The atmosphere is great. Various leisure sofas, tables, and chairs can be seen everywhere. The coffee machine next to the restaurant allows you to make your own coffee. Outside the homestay, there is a camping-style leisure area, and the homestay's dog will also play with you. It's very cute.
Leisure
When you have nothing to do, you can take a walk in the village at the foot of the mountain. It only takes a few minutes to walk down the mountain. The small village surrounded by mountains and rivers is shrouded in mist in the morning, creating an atmosphere of isolation from the world. Follow the babbling stream, look for the fragrant osmanthus flowers, and see the yellow persimmons hanging from the branches. All your worries and stress will disappear.
Nearby
There is the Dongfang Mountain Scenic Area, where you can hike to the top of the mountain. There is the Dongchang Pavilion at the top of the mountain, where you can watch performances. The wandering mine has children's play facilities, dining and barbecue, and a view of the scenery in the distance.
Ezhou | A charming little city.
❤️ Ezhou is the smallest city in Hubei Province in terms of area and population. Despite its small size and population, the city has a good economy and an airport, which naturally makes its neighbors envious. Wuhan is quietly
❤️ Just as many people don't know that the authentic Wuchang fish is not from Wuchang in Wuhan, but from Liangzi Lake in Ezhou, most people are unfamiliar with Ezhou. When it comes to tourism, isn't Wuhan more attractive? Although Ezhou has a long history, it doesn't have many historical sites. Although it has beautiful scenery, it is not particularly outstanding. Just like the people of Ezhou, they are simple and unpretentious, yet radiant.
🏠 Accommodation: The city is small, so you can stay anywhere. I chose to stay at James Joyce Coffetel (Nanpu Road New World), which was a good experience. It was convenient to travel, and it was close to Cailinji.
🚗 Transportation: Shared electric bikes and walking, and taxis when necessary.
🚩 Recommended one-day itinerary in Ezhou:
Route: Shangguan Chengji Noodle House ➡️ Xishan Scenic Area ➡️ Gulingquan Temple ➡️ Wu Wang Summer Palace ➡️ Wuchang Tower ➡️ Ezhou Museum ➡️ Guanyin Pavilion ➡️ Wuchang Gate ➡️ Lianhua Mountain
📢 Important notes:
👉🏻 After visiting Wuchang Tower, exit the park from the north gate, turn left and walk for a few minutes to reach Ezhou Museum.
👉🏻 There are many shared electric bikes across the street from the museum. Turn right and ride along Jiang Avenue for 10 minutes to reach Guanyin Pavilion Park. Wuchang Gate is also nearby.
👉🏻 The light is soft at Guanyin Pavilion around 5 pm, which is good for taking photos. But if it's too late, the building behind will block the sunlight.
👉🏻 The iron flower show at Lianhua Mountain is not available every day. I didn't see it when I went there.
👉🏻 If you drive to Yuanming Tower at Lianhua Mountain, park your car at the Heyanlou parking lot, which is closer to the tower.
👉🏻 Now Ezhou has a new popular spot called Wudu Qiao Street, which is known as the Datang Everbright City of Hubei. I don't know what it's like in reality.
Experience a spiritual retreat at the Ban Shan Mo Cui Homestay in Yueshihong Village.
📍Location and Environment
The homestay is located in Yueshihong Village, which is surrounded by mountains. It's like being in a landscape painting🎑. The air is so fresh that you can't help but take a few deep breaths. Every breath feels like a deep cleanse for your lungs. Looking out from the homestay, you can see lush greenery. The tranquility and peace of the mountains make you forget about the hustle and bustle of the city😌.
🏠Homestay Architecture and Design
The architecture of Ban Shan Mo Cui Homestay is unique. It retains the traditional rural charm while incorporating modern design elements. The wooden structure is paired with large floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing sunlight to pour into the room🌞. The room is simply decorated but cozy. Every detail shows the owner's thoughtfulness. The bedding is soft and comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep🛏. The public area is also elegantly decorated. There is a large courtyard with comfortable tables and chairs. You can sit here and chat over tea, enjoying the breeze🍵.
💆♀️Special Experiences
Here, you can experience the fun of tea picking😜. There are large tea gardens around the homestay. The green tea leaves shine in the sun. Put on a straw hat, carry a bamboo basket, and pick tender green tea leaves in the tea garden. It's like becoming a pastoral poet. The tea leaves you pick can be fried in the homestay's tea shop. Tasting the tea you made yourself is a unique experience😋.
🍱Food
The food at the homestay is also a highlight😃. The ingredients are very fresh, mostly vegetables grown by local villagers and poultry raised by them. The chef's skills are superb. Simple ingredients are turned into delicious dishes. Local specialties such as pot-baked cakes and fried dough twists are crispy and fragrant, leaving a lasting aftertaste🥘.
📸Photo Spots
For those who like to take photos, Ban Shan Mo Cui Homestay is a great place to check in📷. Whether it's the exterior of the homestay or the surrounding natural scenery, you can take great photos anywhere. The first rays of morning sun shine on the mountains, and the evening glow shines on the tea garden. There are beautiful views at every moment, and you can never take enough photos🤳.

A hidden gem near Wuhan - Liangzi Island, a healing trip just 1 hour away
Let me recommend an amazing little island near Wuhan - Liangzi Island. We've already been there three times, and we truly love it.
Starting from Wuhan, head straight to Changling Tourist Wharf (in Ezhou), then take a boat to the island. The round trip costs only 80 yuan. If you visit the island on a weekday, it's absolutely perfect - there's no one around, it's incredibly quiet, and super healing. The wind on the island is strong, and the summer heat is instantly blown away. Standing by the lake feels just like being on a seaside island.
The most beautiful time is at sunset. I strongly recommend staying overnight on the island. There are plenty of good hotels now. This is truly an excellent choice for a trip around Wuhan, both niche and fun. Whether you want to watch the sunset or find a quiet place to relax, Liangzi Island can meet your needs. Come and check it out!
September·Ezhou Museum
In September, when most places have quietly entered the prelude of autumn, the ancient city of Ezhou is like a late summer lover, clinging tightly to the end of the season, reluctant to part with the fervent emotions. The sunlight still carries a bit of summer's stubbornness, uninvitedly spreading over every corner of the ancient city, draping this historic city with a layer of golden gauze.
The moment you step into the Ezhou Museum, it feels like stepping into a vortex of time, instantly detaching from the modern hustle and bustle and traversing to an ancient and profound world. Outside the door, the lingering heat of September is still steaming, but inside is a different realm—the river of history flows quietly here, with each artifact standing as a guardian of time, silently narrating millennia-old stories.
Inside the museum, the stern glow of ancient bronzes flickers under the soft lights. They are not only the crystallization of metal and time but also witnesses to the glory and dreams of the Bronze Age. Each exhibit carries a segment of passionate history, from intricate weapons to solemn ritual vessels, all revealing the wisdom and ingenuity of ancient craftsmen. Standing before these exhibits, one seems to hear the horns of ancient battlefields, the solemn music of sacrificial ceremonies, and feel the fervor and splendor that span thousands of years.
Strolling through this ocean of knowledge, people unconsciously slow their pace, using their hearts to feel the weight of history. The external heat seems to be isolated by this invisible door of history, leaving only a coolness and deep shock in the heart. Here, the wind of history not only blows away the heat of September but also dispels the restlessness and clamor in the heart, leaving only reverence for the past and contemplation for the future.
Take, for example, a famous bronze cauldron in the Ezhou Museum, covered with intricate and exquisite patterns. Each line reveals the superb craftsmanship and profound cultural heritage of ancient artisans. Standing before this exhibit, one can imagine the lively scene when it was cast and its significant status in ancient society. Such an experience is undoubtedly the best antidote to the hot weather of September, allowing one to find a cool oasis in the journey of the soul.

💞Reasons to Recommend:
This recommendation highlights the allure of escaping the hustle and bustle of city life for the tranquility of a secluded island. Your longing for the countryside, despite the vibrancy of the city, resonates with anyone seeking a peaceful retreat. The island experience, especially as a rare foreigner among local Chinese people, adds a layer of authenticity and connection to the local culture that many travelers might crave. The fact that the island was so untouched by tourism, almost deserted, emphasizes the unique and serene atmosphere, perfect for those looking to unwind. The early nights and calm lifestyle offer a break from the fast-paced city, making this island a memorable and cherished escape. Plus, the anecdote about getting stranded adds a touch of adventure and a reminder of the island's remoteness, making it even more appealing for those looking for an authentic and off-the-beaten-path experience.

Ezhou Xishan Scenic Area Travel Guide
Ezhou Xishan, formerly known as Fanshan, is a city that can be easily forgotten, but it also has its own long history. Attractions such as Wuchang Tower, Guanyin Pavilion, and Guling Spring Temple add a touch of color to its historical and cultural heritage.
🚙 Ezhou Xishan Scenic Area is only 68 kilometers away from Wuhan. I arrived at the south gate, and as soon as I got off the bus, I saw a super steep slope. I hadn't even started climbing and my heart was already silently gasping for air! 🍃 Xiuyuan has beautiful scenery, which is beyond words. Personally, I think it's very suitable for taking photos in cheongsam or Hanfu, with a unique flavor! Climbing up to Wuchang Tower, you can overlook the cityscape of Ezhou, with an excellent view!
📍Location: Xishan Scenic Area (4A level scenic spot)
✅ Admission is free. I parked at the south gate parking lot and then started climbing the mountain. However, I came down at the west gate, not sure if I took the wrong way
✅ Don't forget to check in at Guanyin Pavilion nearby!
The First Pavilion of the Yangtze River: Guanyin Pavilion Travel Guide
Ezhou was the ancient capital of the Eastern Wu, and on the embankment outside the Xiaodong Gate, there stands a gigantic rock in the middle of the river, winding like a dragon, known as 'Longpan Rock'.
It is said that before Sun Quan made Wuchang (now Ezhou) his capital, a yellow dragon lay coiled on the rock for several days before leaving, hence it is also called 'Coiled Dragon Stone'. The Coiled Dragon Stone looks westward with its head raised, shrouded in a layer of mist, resembling a mirage.
What's more amazing is that an ancient temple shaped like a boat stands abruptly on the dragon's head, suspended in the air, towering across the river. This is the awe-inspiring Guanyin Pavilion of Ezhou, also known as Longpan Rock Temple.
On the Yangtze River that stretches for thousands of miles, from Bashu in the west to Wusong in the east, only the Guanyin Pavilion of Ezhou stands proudly at the head of the rock, like a pillar in the midst of the stream, thus it is also known as 'The First Pavilion of the Yangtze River'.
Guanyin Pavilion was originally built during the Song Dynasty and rebuilt in the fifth year of the Zhiyuan era of the Yuan Dynasty (1345 AD), with multiple renovations during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The pavilion faces west and is built on a platform of piled stones on the rock. There are three halls: the Ancestral Master Hall, Guanyin Hall, and Laojun Hall, as well as buildings such as the Chunyang Tower and Guanlan Pavilion. Guanyin Pavilion faces west, is 14 meters high, and its base is more than 1 meter thick, made of stones that are 60 centimeters long, 20 centimeters wide, and 25 centimeters thick.
During the dry season, the entire base of Longpan is almost completely exposed, but during major floods, the Guanyin Pavilion can be submerged up to the second floor, and the front wave barrier has been completely underwater. Yet, the Guanyin Pavilion still stands firmly in the heart of the river, undisturbed for a thousand years, which is truly astonishing.
Guanyin Pavilion of Ezhou, also known as 'Longpan Rock Temple', is located on Longpan Rock of the Yangtze River outside Xiaodong Gate in Echeng District, Ezhou City, Hubei Province. It was built in the fifth year of the Zhiyuan era of the Yuan Dynasty (1345 AD). This building faces west, stands against the current, is 24 meters long, 10 meters wide, and 14 meters high. The base is piled with strip stones, and the body of the pavilion is built with blue bricks. It is a typical wooden frame structure pavilion-style building, with one pavilion, three halls, and two floors, covering a total area of more than 300 square meters.
Guanyin Pavilion of Ezhou is well laid out and exquisitely constructed, with red railings and corridors, and flying eaves, displaying the typical artistic characteristics of southern Chinese folk architecture. At the same time, it also integrates the cultures of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, and is the only place in the vast Yangtze River, hence it is known as 'The First Pavilion of the Yangtze River'. On May 25, 2006, Guanyin Pavilion of Ezhou was approved and announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

In the forgotten small city—Ezhou
On this land gently embraced by the Yangtze River, Ezhou, an ancient city with a thousand years of history, quietly narrates the symphony of the past and present. As an experienced travel enthusiast, today I will take you into this unspoiled Jiangnan secret realm to explore the beauty, food, and culture hidden in the crevices of time.
Attraction Introduction: Ancient charm and modern style, interwoven like a dream
•Wuwang City Ruins: Stepping onto these ancient city walls is like traveling back to the Three Kingdoms period, where the grand ambitions of King Sun Quan seem to unfold before your eyes. Among the ruins, the profound sense of history and time hits you, making it an excellent spot for photography lovers.
•Xishan Scenic Area: Known as the 'Lungs of Ezhou,' Xishan is famous for its beautiful natural scenery and rich cultural landscapes. Climbing high for a distant view, the Yangtze River is like a ribbon, with the lake and mountains below, a sight too beautiful to describe. Don't forget to visit the ancient Lingquan Temple and listen to the low chanting of a thousand years.
•Liangzi Lake Ecotourism Area: The second-largest freshwater lake in Hubei, known for its clear water quality and rich ecological resources. Boating on the lake or tasting the authentic Liangzi Lake hairy crab is an extraordinary experience.
Itinerary: Three days and two nights, in-depth tour of Ezhou
Day One: After arriving in Ezhou, head straight to the Wuwang City Ruins to feel the sediment of history. In the afternoon, go to the Xishan Scenic Area for a hike, and wait for the sunset on the mountaintop in the evening, enjoying the moment where tranquility and magnificence coexist.
Day Two: Get up early to go to Liangzi Lake, join a sightseeing boat tour on the lake, and get close to nature. For lunch, enjoy a special Liangzi Lake crab feast. In the afternoon, return to the city to visit the Ezhou City Museum and delve into the historical changes of the city.
Day Three: Visit the ancient streets and alleys of Ezhou, such as Fankou Old Street, to experience local life, find handicrafts, and taste authentic snacks. In the afternoon, you can choose to rest in a café by the Yangtze River, quietly watching the river flow eastward, putting a perfect end to this trip.
Food Recommendations: Memories of Ezhou on the tip of the tongue
•Wuchang Fish: Coming to Ezhou, how can you not taste the 'Wuchang fish' mentioned in Mao Zedong's poetry? Steaming is the best way to bring out its fresh flavor.
•Hairy Crab: Autumn is the season when Liangzi Lake hairy crabs are the fattest, with full roe and tender meat, a delicacy not to be missed.
•Doupi: As a traditional snack of Ezhou, it has a crispy skin and soft inside, each bite is an ultimate temptation for the taste buds.
Transportation Tips:
•External Transportation: Ezhou is about 80 kilometers from Wuhan and can be reached via Wuhan Tianhe International Airport or Wuhan Station (high-speed rail station), followed by a long-distance bus or taxi directly to Ezhou, which is very convenient.
•Internal Transportation: The public transport network in Ezhou covers the main attractions, and taxi and ride-hailing services are also very convenient. It is recommended to rent a bicycle or electric bike to roam, adding a bit more freedom and fun.

Budget Travel Diary | Ezhou Travel Guide
🚉Transportation Guide: Ezhou is really close to Wuhan, you can choose either high-speed rail or regular train. After getting off the station, you can directly take the No. 8 bus to the museum to reach Xishan Park (Ezhou is a small city, and the attractions are basically concentrated around the museum).
Xishan Park
Xishan Park is indeed a treasure spot that Su Shi and his brother Su Zhe visited many times. Ancient Lingquan Temple, Jiuqu Pavilion, Songfeng Pavilion, King Wu's Summer Palace, Wuchang Tower, and so on are scattered here. It is recommended to start climbing from the south gate and descend from the north gate to the museum, basically covering all the scenic spots along the way. Free, playtime 2 hours Xishan Scenic Area
Wuchang Tower
Wuchang Tower was built by later generations to commemorate Sun Quan's relocation of the capital to E County during the Three Kingdoms period, with the name meaning 'prospering through martial prowess'. Climbing the tower for a distant view, the wide river is refreshing, and you can see the Fan mouth where drums and horns competed in the past, the distant Ehuang Yangtze River Bridge, and Huanggang on the opposite side of the river.
Ezhou Museum
Free, playtime 1-2 hours, Ezhou Museum is small but full of surprises: for example, the name 'E' is really related to crocodiles, such as a whole exhibition hall of mirrors in various forms, such as the Three Kingdoms post office where you can stamp Ezhou scenic postmarks and the cultural and creative store with strange Wuchang fish dolls... As the hometown of ancient bronze mirrors, the bronze mirrors here are really worth stopping to admire slowly. Within a small square, the ingenuity of the ancients is fully displayed, and there is also a romantic story of 'mending a broken mirror'.
Binjiang Park
In Binjiang Park Square stands a tall statue of Sun Quan, not far behind him are Longpan Rock and Guanyin Pavilion. Guanyin Pavilion, also known as Longpan Rock Temple, was built during the Yuan Dynasty. After more than 700 years of river baptism, it stands firm in the river heart regardless of floods or droughts, a true spectacle, no wonder it is known as 'the number one pavilion along the Yangtze River'. Nowadays, for the protection of cultural relics, Guanyin Pavilion is not open to the public, but you can stand by the river and admire its elegance.
Dayu Tower
In the old streets of Ezhou's ancient city area, there is an ancient tower named after the Eastern Jin celebrity Yu Liang, who once admired the moon here, and later became famous for a thousand years because of Li Bai's poem 'The clear wind in the south tower at night, the style is in Wuchang. Yu Gong loves the autumn moon, riding on the mood to sit on the Hu bed'. Now only Dayu Tower remains in the ancient city, and other historical sites are almost nowhere to be found, so there is no need to make a special trip here.
Liangzi Lake Ecotourism Area
Speaking of Liangzi Lake, one cannot help but think of the famous Liangzi Lake hairy crabs and it is also the mother lake of Wuchang fish, the fish here are even fresher than other places! Moreover, the scenery on the islands of Liangzi Lake is very charming, you can camp or picnic here, a must-visit place for foodies and photography enthusiasts
Lotus Mountain
I really like this scenic spot, with vast misty waves and beautiful lake and mountain scenery, it's no wonder that poets and scholars of all dynasties have composed poems and writings here, leaving behind many well-known masterpieces!

Guanyin Pavilion
The 'nail household' in the Yangtze River, after more than 700 years of river baptism, still stands firm, like a pillar in the current, majestic. During the flood season, the river rises and the pavilion is submerged, after the flood season, the water recedes and the rocks emerge.
You can stroll along the river, many nearby residents enjoy playing chess, playing cards, and sunbathing here
Recommended food: Intangible Cultural Heritage Wuchang Fish: Ezhou is the hometown of Wuchang fish, you must try the Wuchang fish here, it tastes different from what you eat in Wuhan!

A 20-minute trip from Wuhan to Ezhou day trip guide
There are too many tourists in Wuhan, and the attractions are crowded.
It's better to go to the city of Ezhou, which is also on the Yangtze River.
Here is the Guanyin Pavilion, the 'First Pavilion of the Yangtze River'
There is delicious Wuchang fish.
It was once the capital of the Wu Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period.
Beautiful scenery, lots of food, and a rich historical heritage.
Coming here really makes me feel that this is a small city of treasure!

Transportation:
🚅High-speed train: It takes only 20 minutes to depart from Wuhan, which is faster than the subway from Guanggu to Hankou.
🚗Self-driving: It is more than an hour's drive from Wuhan city, and there are plenty of parking spaces in the scenic area.

Attraction recommendation:
⛰️Xishan Scenic Area: 4A-level tourist attraction, the mountain is not high, but it's quite big inside. Wuchang Tower, Summer Palace, and Ancient Lingquan Temple are all inside, and it takes about 3--4 hours to play.
🏯Wuchang Tower: The view of the sunset is great, facing the wilderness of mountains and rivers, you can also overlook the Yangtze River.
🕌Ancient Lingquan Temple: One of the birthplaces of the 'Pure Land Sect', there are also Lingquan Temple, Hanxi Academy, Bodhisattva Spring, and Qinglong Bridge in the mountains. It's very playable and photogenic. You can go down the mountain from the red steps on the left side of the road, and you will get to Qinglong Bridge. You can also go up the mountain from here, and you will get to Xiuyuan in a while.
🏛️Ezhou Museum: It's quite close to Xishan Scenic Area, no need to make an appointment. It displays the style of Ezhou as the capital of Wu, and the ancient bronze mirrors on the second floor are the most outstanding. After all, Ezhou is known as the 'hometown of ancient bronze mirrors', and it takes about 1.5 hours to visit.
💒Guanyin Pavilion: Known as the 'First Pavilion of the Yangtze River', it has stood in the river for more than 700 years despite the wind and waves. Unfortunately, it is not open, but you can chase the sunset by the river.
⛩️Wuchang Gate: Although it is newly built, it is indeed the location of the Wu King City during the Three Kingdoms period. The spring breeze when Wu Emperor ascended the throne is just like the river breeze coming on.

🍱Food recommendation
①Ghost Brother Fried Noodles: Ten yuan a serving, lots of meat, choose noodles or rice noodles, the specialty is round noodles, sour and spicy, if you can't eat spicy, be sure to let the master put less dried chili.
②Ya Hui Tea Restaurant: An old brand, the first floor is marinated duck goods, you can order dishes upstairs.
③Big Bowl Kitchen·Intangible Cultural Heritage Wuchang Fish: The birthplace of Wuchang fish, a shop that has been on CCTV, Ezhou is the original place of Wuchang fish, if you like to eat fish, don't miss it.

Although it is the smallest prefecture-level city, it bears the abbreviation of Hubei Province. Although the sparrow is small, it has all the internal organs. There are all kinds of food, drink, play, and live.
Hubei's smallest prefecture-level city is too low-key! Weekend one-day tour guide
Ezhou, this small city with the abbreviation of Hubei Province
It's only a 20-minute drive from Wuhan
It is the 'Ancient Wuchang', the hometown of Wuchang fish
It was also the briefly glorious capital of the Three Kingdoms Wu
Mr. Dongpo has also come here to climb mountains
Today's Ezhou seems to have been forgotten
Therefore, I feel that this is a small city of treasure!

2⃣️【Ezhou Museum】
The style of the Three Kingdoms Wu capital, the reputation of Ezhou as the 'town of bronze mirrors', I only understood deeply after entering the Ezhou Museum, and also understood the changes of the two place names 'E' and 'Wuchang'.

3⃣️Guanyin Pavilion
The 'nail household' in the Yangtze River, after more than 700 years of baptism by the river, still stands tall, like a pillar in the middle of the river, with a majestic momentum. During the flood season, the river rises, the water floods the pavilion, after the flood season, the water falls and the rocks appear.
You can take a longer walk by the river, many nearby residents are comfortably playing chess, playing cards and sunbathing here

🔸Intangible cultural heritage Wuchang fish: Ezhou is the hometown of Wuchang fish, you must try the Wuchang fish here, it tastes different from what you eat in Wuhan!
🔸Ghost brother fried noodles: The biggest feature is the fried round noodles with a lot of lean meat, but I personally think it's sour and I don't like it, the fried wide noodles are quite delicious.
