Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Girona (Region) The Romanesque style and all the fame of the area has been taken away by the Monastery of San Pere de Rodes, but a visit to the Monastery of Santa Helena de Rodes and the old town will take you back to a time of centuries past. Everything is very well preserved, the instructions are very detailed, and if you use a little imagination you will soon find yourself in the living conditions of that era (very different from today). Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Girona (Region) Not much remains of the castle, but what little remains shows how grand it once was, and when coupled with the 360-degree views, you won’t be disappointed with the effort required to climb, taking in the views of Rose Bay and the ruins at the top. The path to the castle takes about half an hour, depending on which car park you start the route from. Be careful there is nothing particularly difficult but the climb is quite steep and stony, especially the last few meters up to the end of the castle with a considerable gradient, it is a unique place. #AprilDestinations2025 #SpainTravel #Catalonia

Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Girona (Region) The monumental complex of San Pere de Rodes is quite spectacular, especially when viewed from certain angles. The route to the castle is steep but less challenging, but well worth the effort. The view overlooking San Pere Pescador on one side and the town of Santa Creu on the other is spectacular. You can even climb further and admire the entire valley, with stunning views of Cap Creus amidst an impressive landscape. #AprilGoodDestinations2025

Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Girona (Region) Traces of Carolingian, Mozarabic and Romanesque elements, with Lombard influences, still exist today. Construction of the church began in the 10th century in the Mozarabic style and was finally completed in 1022. The central nave is topped with a barrel vault, and the side naves have a quarter-spherical vault. There are two towers on either side of the church, which were influenced by the French Romanesque style. Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Girona (Region) Port de la Selva, located in the northern Costa Brava, is known for its diverse landscapes, beaches, and mountains, such as Sant Salvador and Puig de Queralbs, which form part of the Sierra de Rodes Mountain Range. The settlement's earliest recorded history dates back to 974, but it didn't become a full-fledged village until the 18th century, with the construction of its first church. Fishing was the village's primary economic activity until the advent of tourism in the 20th century. Despite this, Port de la Selva retains its small fishing village charm, boasting numerous monuments and archaeological remains, such as the Tabarrera Dolmen, the medieval ruins of the Sierra de Rodes (composed of the Monasteries of San Pered de Rodes and San Salvador), the Castle (13th century), the Shrine of Santa Elena and Santa Cruz (village), and the Church of San Frutos.
