A Trip to Zhuhai's Chimelong Ocean Kingdom —.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.— A word of caution: Zhuhai's Chimelong Ocean Kingdom is a great theme park for families and couples. It boasts a wealth of facilities and amenities, which can be broadly divided into three sections: the animal exhibition area (accessible at all times), the animal performance area (pre-queue in advance), and the amusement ride area (which may require longer queues). This article is more suitable for couples and adults. Since I didn't bring children with me this time, I didn't try many of the family-friendly attractions, so I can't offer any recommendations. This article focuses on park-wide recommendations. Accommodation and transportation are easy to find, so I'll skip this section. If you're visiting on your birthday, register as a basic member on the Chimelong Travel app or WeChat official account at least one day in advance. On your birthday, go directly to the ticket office to purchase your ticket for half-price. After entering the park, go to the customer service center on the right to receive a birthday gift package and "Fast Pass" cards for two rides you and your partner will visit. These are great for popular rides! (You can also purchase these cards; each ride costs over 100 yuan.) 2. DO bring a backpack! KEY POINTS!!! You can bring some food and drinks into the park. Security checks are not very strict, and as long as your bag isn't overly full, you won't be bothered or have your bag searched. With the exception of the "Rapids" ride, there are generally no bag check areas for other rides. Therefore, a lightweight backpack with ample capacity and ease of travel is ideal! 3. If you're going to play the "Water Spinner" or "Rapid Rapids," be sure to bring your raincoat and shoe covers before you start! Especially for the water gun fight, without them, you'll be like taking a shower. After the last round, you'll get your seat soaked with water. (The human dryer (20 yuan per session) is only suitable for getting your hair and clothes slightly wet; getting soaked without a raincoat won't save you.) (The Rapids ride's middle seat is less wet.) 4. If you're traveling with children of a certain age (those who can use a stroller), you can rent a stroller. Each area has its own designated "stroller parking lot," so you'll need to hold or lead your child once you enter. You can't push them to see the animals or the shows. (Someone commented that there's a 100 yuan fee for renting a stroller.) 5. Follow the WeChat official account "Chimelong Travel" to download a map in advance to see where the attractions are and plan your route. (There are many more features.) Download the "Chimelong Travel" app. From the homepage, tap "Discover" - "Park Tours" - "Ocean Kingdom." At the top, select "Shows," etc. You can see your real-time location and the actual wait time. You can plan your itinerary based on your needs after entering the park. Click on the bubble for a specific attraction to see its description. (Note that the directions on the two maps are different; you can use landmarks to help you find your way.) 6. Attention ladies! If you wear cosmetic lenses, be sure to have a spare pair. Rides like roller coasters can easily irritate your eyes, and after fireworks, you might get sand in your eyes. If you wear makeup, remember to bring touch-up products. The 5D Theater, several water attractions, and the front row of the animal shows can smudge your makeup. 7. Please be careful when visiting the park in hot weather! The temperatures in the Polar Bear and Penguin Pavilions are relatively low, and the temperature difference between indoors and outdoors is significant. Bring a jacket or scarf to keep warm. (If you're concerned about this, you can call customer service ahead of time to inquire about the venue's temperature. My go-to outfit was perfect with a long T-shirt and a light jacket.) ★Highly recommended, worth the price of admission! 1. Parrot Roller Coaster Recommendation: If you love roller coasters, don't miss it! There are many smaller roller coasters in the park suitable for children, but this one is only for adults over 1.35 meters tall! There's a section where you're upside down, which is super thrilling. Tip: There's no bag check, so be sure to bring your phone and other belongings. 2.5D Theater Recommendation: I highly recommend this one as your first ride! It's truly 5D! The viewing experience is incredibly realistic. The video links the various areas, making it even more engaging to experience the other areas after watching it! It's like a backdrop, very moving! Tip: This is the first show in the park, usually starting half an hour after the park opens, with shows every half hour. 5D glasses are provided upon admission, so those with nearsightedness should wear contact lenses. Water sprays your face, so ladies should touch up their makeup afterward! 3. Dolphin Theater Recommendation: Of the several animal shows, I highly recommend the dolphins, as they're truly the smartest and perform the most diverse performances! Tip: No matter which direction you're sitting, try to sit in the front row! Children are more likely to be called in for interactive activities! (Due to the pandemic, only a limited number of interactions were available, and other performances were even canceled. We can only hope for the next opening.) 4. Fireworks Show Recommendation: Fireworks are incredibly expensive, but the effect is truly stunning. Paired with music and water performances, it's a must-see! Definitely worth arriving half an hour early to secure a lakeside seat. Tip: Aside from the central area near the LED screen, other lakeside seats don't make a big difference (the lakeside area near the whale shark aquarium isn't ideal because it's blocked off for fireworks). Try to choose a convenient spot; the show will cover almost every angle. 5. Whale Shark Aquarium Recommendation: Experience the true underwater world. I've visited this aquarium twice and still couldn't get enough! Tips: Recommended times to visit are within an hour of opening and between 6:30 PM and closing time. The park is incredibly crowded during other times! Please take photos in the first large blue display area after entering! This is the only area with ample lighting; taking photos with the underwater animals in other areas will leave you with dark faces. (See the picture! Take a quick photo!) 6. Penguin and Polar Bear Pavilion Recommendation: A truly unique experience, with small animals nestled amidst the icy landscape. The pavilion also offers multiple viewing angles, both on land and underwater. Only by visiting can you truly appreciate the vibrant beauty of these animals. (You'll also experience the horrors of global warming and ocean pollution firsthand: these beautiful animals are almost homeless!) Tips: The temperature difference between indoors and outdoors is significant, so dress warmly. 7. Ocean Amphitheater (Recommended for children only) Recommendation: This is a continuation of the 5D theater story (or a live-action rendition), perfect for children. ★Other attractions I've experienced and tips 1. After entering the park, don't spend too much time under the large LED screen! Go right to the attractions you want to try! (You can come back here anytime to take photos. There are shops and restaurants on both sides.) 2. After entering the park, there's a place to pick up free paper maps. Grab one! It's more convenient than using your phone! 3. Shows like the Beluga Whale Theater and the Sea Lion Theater The animals are all very well-behaved and impressive. Try to sit near the front! It doesn't really matter if you sit to the left or right, as the performances cater to both audiences. 4. Smaller exhibits like the Chinese White Dolphin and Beluga Whale Halls Typically, exhibits with water features have both an outdoor waterfront and underwater displays inside. If you don't see the animals outside, go inside to see their underwater activities. 5. The park's attractions are slightly more child-friendly, but the lines are long, so be sure to use your time wisely. Adults should try the attractions not suitable for children under 1.2 meters; they're more exciting and have shorter lines. Some venues offer educational activities for children, so parents are recommended to bring their children along. 6. There's an animal market inside the park, just to the left of the LED screen Ocean Avenue and to the right of the King Squid. It's a lovely scene and perfect for photos. (Actually, these are different shopping malls; I recommend visiting the shops at the end of your itinerary.) 7. The fireworks show usually ends around 8:20 PM, and the park usually closes at 9:00 PM. During this time, most people head for the exits, but there are still some attractions open. Hurry! There are fewer people and no need to queue! Go for it! ★Some Dining Guides & Recommendations Guides: 1. The Western restaurant near the LED screen is expensive and has a limited selection. 2. The smokeless accordion grilled squid at Squid King smells amazing, but the taste is average. The grilled squid is fresh and okay. Recommendations: 1. The Hot Dog House combo, over 50 yuan, includes a hot dog bun, fresh fried potato chips, and a drink. It's a great value in the park! 2. Popcorn, 28 yuan, a huge bucket of delicious food. The designs are cute, and they're a great snack, with prices similar to those at the cinema. 3. Drinks from the vending machines within the park are under 10 yuan. 4. The Castle Restaurant serves Japanese and Korean cuisine. I opted for the 88 yuan Geely Pork Chop Rice, which was decent and average value. —.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.— Part 3: Accommodation, Transportation, and Others About Accommodation ★ Wealthy travelers can choose from several major hotels within the park. While they're not particularly expensive, they also offer entry half an hour early (essentially equivalent to a fast-track ticket plus photo privileges). ★ Self-driving travelers can choose accommodations in other areas of Zhuhai.
