Meixi Archway

Meixi Archway Meixi Stone Archway is located at the former site of "Chen Fang Garden," in Meixi Village, Qianshan Town, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province. It was built in the 12th year (1886) and the 17th year (1891) of the Guangxu reign in the Qing Dynasty. Three archways remain today, which were bestowed by Emperor Guangxu to commend Chen Fang, the Qing Dynasty's consul in Hawaii, and his parents for their contributions to their hometown. It was declared a cultural relic protection unit of Zhuhai City in 1987, listed as a provincial cultural relic unit by Guangdong Province in 1989, and after repairs in 1992, it was designated as a national key cultural relic protection unit in 2006. Meixi Archway is made of granite, with a perfect blend of Chinese and Western artistic styles, excellent structural mechanics, and exquisite decorative carvings. The Chinese Archway Art Museum also showcases models of the finest existing archways in China. According to Huang Xiaodong, a member of the Standing Committee and Minister of Propaganda of Zhuhai City, this is a microcosm of Zhuhai's "Maritime Historical Culture."
