Gaomiao Temple (Zhongwei, Ningxia)

Initially took shape during the Yongle to Wanli years of the Ming Dynasty (1403-1424 AD), originally named 'New Temple'. Subsequent renovations were carried out, and during the Xianfeng era, it was expanded and renamed 'Jade Emperor Pavilion'. The construction was completed in 1946, and the Baoshan Temple below the platform was incorporated into it, renaming it 'Gaomiao'. In 1963, it was listed as a key cultural relic protection unit of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. In March 2013, it was announced by the State Council as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units. The architecture has four major characteristics: centralized, compact, towering, and winding. The main buildings are all located on a central axis, connected layer by layer, gradually increasing in height, with auxiliary buildings on both sides, balanced and symmetrical. The entire architectural complex features multi-storied pavilions and connected corridors, with overhanging eaves touching each other, winding and turning, compact yet full of changes, resembling a phoenix spreading its wings, and is a masterpiece among ancient Chinese temple architectures.
