This ancient town, which you will regret not visiting in your lifetime, is known as the 'Venice of the East'. Zhenyuan Ancient Town is nestled against the mountains and by the water, with the river meandering through the town in an 'S' shape, resembling Tai Chi, hence it is also called 'Tai Chi Ancient Town'. Zhenyuan has a long history, dating back to more than 2280 years ago when it was established as a county in the 30th year of King Zhao of Qin (277 BC). It served as the location for the Dao and Prefecture governments for over 700 years during the Yuan and Qing dynasties. The town is rich in ancient architecture, traditional residential buildings, and historical docks.
