Zhao'an - Wangyangtai

Wangyangtai is a Ming Dynasty cliff inscription located on a seaside hill outside Xuanzhong Fortress in Nanmen Village, Meiling Town, Zhao'an County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province, China. Wangyangtai faces south and is a natural vertical stone standing like a screen, with large stones piled up below it in the shape of a mirror platform. On the vertical stone, the inscription reads "Wangyangtai, March 1, 1526, Cai Chao, Right Censor of the Fujian Provincial Administration Commission, Linhai" in regular script. The inscription is 600 cm high and 270 cm wide, with the characters measuring 142 cm square and the signature measuring 24 cm square. At that time, Zhao'an was not yet a county, but a thousand-household office in Nanzhao and Xuanzhong. This place was the sea gate of Xuanzhong Fortress, where one could look out over the South China Sea. This place was the sea gate of Xuanzhong Fortress, known as the "Giant Waves of Zhongmen." Standing by the screen, one can look out over the vast ocean, which is magnificent; from a distance, the surging waves are breathtaking. Cai Chao, then the Right Censor of the Fujian Provincial Administration Commission, was patrolling the coastal prefectures and counties. In 1526, he visited Xuanzhong Thousand-Household Office and climbed to this place to look out over the sea, where he saw the vast expanse of blue waves and countless returning sails. Cai Chao was greatly moved and, seeing a huge stone screen among the stacked stones, wrote the three large characters "Wangyangtai."
