Shanxi Changzi Dazhong Han Sancong Temple

Dazhong Han Sancong Temple was established in the 28th year of the Yuan Zhiyuan era (1291). The main hall is a Yuan Dynasty relic, while the rest of the buildings date from the Qing Dynasty. The temple faces south and covers an area of about 730 square meters. The main hall is located at the northern end of the temple courtyard, flanked by the east and west side halls. In front of the main hall are east and west wing rooms, and at the southern end is a two-story mountain gate. The main hall is three bays wide and six purlins deep, originally with a suspended gable roof, now featuring a single-eave hard gable roof. The front eave columns have five-layer double rafters with a heavy bracket set. The front eave corner columns are square stone columns with chamfered edges, while the gold columns are round, thick, and show signs of splicing. Except for the main hall, the other buildings are smaller and simpler in form. The architectural layout of Dazhong Han Sancong Temple is relatively complete, and the main hall basically retains the architectural characteristics of the Yuan Dynasty, holding significant value for architectural history research. Inside the hall, there are about 80 square meters of Qing Dynasty murals, including scenes such as "Houyi Shooting the Nine Suns" and "The King of National Protection Lingkuang's Rain-Invoking Patrol," featuring exaggerated dynamic figures and strong narrative scenes. The murals in the east side hall depict Lantern Festival folk customs and tea ceremony camel caravans, reflecting local cultural characteristics. The temple also preserves a restoration stele from the 25th year of the Republic of China (1936), documenting modern repair history. Architectural components such as the splicing marks on the gold columns and inscriptions from Qing Dynasty opera stages and troupes reflect multi-generational usage traces. It is a nationally protected key cultural relic.
