Shenyang Surroundings｜Step into the Fairytale World of Hobbit Town

Located in the Deliger Grassland of Zhangwu, Fuxin, it takes about 2 hours to drive from Shenyang. After exiting the highway at Zhangwu, you’ll need to travel a considerable distance on smaller roads, some of which are bumpy and uneven. There’s a large open area at the entrance for free parking, and by the time we arrived around 10 a.m., there were already quite a few cars. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance. A general admission ticket costs 30 yuan and includes a free ticket for rafting (which takes place at a nearby reservoir, though we didn’t go rafting in the end). After entering, walk straight ahead and turn right to find the ticket checkpoint. From there, just follow the path and explore. The highlight of the area is undoubtedly Hobbit Town, which was the main reason for our visit. The combination of grassy fields and quaint little houses makes for great photo opportunities, and it wasn’t crowded. Further inside, you’ll find Gaochang Ancient Town, which features a very realistic fake donkey—some people even mistake it for a real one at first glance. We heard that many people come here to shoot short videos, though we didn’t encounter any on the day of our visit. Inside the ancient town, there’s a restaurant where you can dine and a small general store (mini-market). To the left of Gaochang Ancient Town’s exit, there’s a sand gate that’s also great for photos. Other activities available include horseback riding, off-road driving, and shooting, but these require additional fees, which we didn’t try. There’s a restaurant near the ticket checkpoint, but it wasn’t open during our visit. We noticed many older women with suitcases taking photos, accompanied by professional photographers. Each person had several outfits, and one elderly male photographer was working with a group of older women. Overall, this place is ideal for photography. If you enjoy taking pictures and the style here matches your aesthetic, it’s worth a visit.
