|The cave inscriptions are prominent. Biluo Temple is located in the valley east of Nanlianshi Village, Bagong Town, Zezhou County, Jincheng City, Shanxi Province. It is backed by Biluo Mountain and faces Wansong Ridge. It faces south and is built against the mountain. The temple is surrounded by peaks. Biluo Temple was founded during the Northern Dynasties. In the second year of the Yongchun reign of the Tang Dynasty (683), King Han Li Yuanjia was transferred to be the governor of Zezhou. In the same year, his son Huang Gong Li Zhuan prayed for his mother, Concubine Fang, and built a statue here. He also carved a cliff stele, which is known as the "Biluo Stele" and is treasured by the world. The "Biluo Monument" was destroyed due to age, and the Biluo Temple was also destroyed during the Anti-Japanese War. The most famous part of the temple is the grottoes, which were carved into the mountain and are divided into three caves with 91 statues. The West Grottoes are relics of the Northern Qi Dynasty, and they focus more on static and freehand painting. The Buddha statues have round heads, simple facial contours, distant eyes, and are overall soft and quiet. The Central Cave and the West Cave are relics from the Tang Dynasty. Stone Buddha statues in the Tang Dynasty gradually tended to be realistic and pursued dynamics. Their expressions are relaxed, their skin is plump, and their clothes are exquisite and gorgeous. Although these two grottoes are severely damaged, the splendor of the Tang Dynasty can still be glimpsed from the remaining walls.
