Zengcheng District (affiliated to Guangzhou, Guangdong Province)

Zengcheng District, affiliated to Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, is located in the central part of Guangdong Province, the eastern part of Guangzhou, and the northeastern corner of the Pearl River Delta, between 23°5'—23°37' north latitude and 113°32'—114°0' east longitude. It borders Boluo County of Huizhou City to the east, Huangpu District to the west, Dongguan City across the river to the south, and Conghua District and Longmen County of Huizhou City to the north, with a total area of 1616.47 square kilometers. In 2023, the permanent population of Zengcheng District was 1.5867 million. As of October 2021, Zengcheng District has jurisdiction over 6 streets and 7 towns. The district government is located at No. 1 Huimin Road. According to the "Yuanhe County Records": "Zengcheng County, according to Kunlun Mountain, has Langfeng and Zengcheng, which means a beautiful name." During the Han Dynasty, Zengcheng County was established by dividing the land of Panyu County. It has a history of more than 1800 years. In 2007, it was designated as a "Millennium Ancient County" by the United Nations Geographical Names Organization and is one of the earliest places where ancient human groups lived in the Guangzhou area. During the Ming Dynasty, Longmen County was established in the northeastern part. In 1993, Zengcheng County was abolished and Zengcheng City at the county level was established. In 2014, Zengcheng City at the county level was abolished and Zengcheng District of Guangzhou City was established. Zengcheng is one of the key hometowns of overseas Chinese in Guangdong. It has five national geographical indication protected agricultural products: Zengcheng Gualv, Zengcheng Lychee, Paitan Liangfen Grass, Zengcheng Silk Seedling Rice, and Zengcheng Late Vegetable Heart. It has a national economic and technological development zone, as well as the fifth national overseas Chinese business industrial cluster "Qiaomengyuan", which is a national urban-rural integration development experimental zone, a nationally famous hometown of lychees, a hometown of silk seedling rice, a famous city of denim clothing, an emerging automobile industry base, and an ecological tourism demonstration zone. It is a manufacturing base for auto parts in China, an advantageous area for characteristic agricultural products in China, and a national urban-rural integration development experimental zone. In 2022, Zengcheng District achieved a regional GDP of 132.527 billion yuan, an increase of 4.0% over the previous year.
