Journey to the Spanish Pyrenees ~ Zaragoza (Region) The Zaragoza Bridge, spanning the Ebro River, was constructed for the 2008 World Expo. This engineering marvel combines aesthetics with cutting-edge technology. It is the world's largest concrete tied-arch bridge, with an arch span of 216 meters. The bridge deck measures 279 meters in length, 43 meters in width, and weighs 24,000 tons. It features six lanes for vehicles, two bike lanes, and two glass pedestrian walkways designed to shield pedestrians from harsh weather conditions. The arch is made of reinforced white concrete, designed to absorb vibrations from traffic and wind. The arch rises 25 meters above the bridge deck, with dimensions of 5.5 meters in width, 2 meters in depth, and a weight of 5,000 tons. The deck is supported by two sets of 32 suspension cables, which bear approximately 600 tons of tension, effectively separating the vehicle lanes from the pedestrian walkways.
