Beigang, Yunlin｜The "Father and Son Buddha Makeup Joint Exhibition" at the Craft Workshop: Carving out the continuation of faith with every stroke of the knife

In Beigang, Yunlin, where incense is flourishing and craftsmanship is endless, temples are not only the center of faith, but also the most profound soil for traditional crafts. Recently, a local craft workshop in Beigang held a moving exhibition - "Father and Son Makeup Buddha Joint Exhibition", which exhibited the respect and life of two generations of artists for the statues of gods. Through the dialogue between wood carving, gold makeup and painting, people can see how the faith craftsmanship is inherited and innovated over time. Makeup Buddha, which means "makeup and shaping" of the gods, is a three-dimensional faith art that combines carving, painting, gold foil, gilding and robe design. From selecting wood, beating the embryo, carving the face, drawing the eyes, gold makeup, to the final consecration, the birth of each statue is a cautious and pious process. This joint exhibition displays many statues of gods, including Guanyin, Mazu, Fude Zhengshen and Wufu Qiansui, which were jointly and independently created by the father, a senior Buddha makeup master, and his son, a new generation young artist. They not only present the traditional delicate craftsmanship, but also incorporate contemporary line vocabulary and color thinking.
