Yueyang Junshan Island—Love Island

🏝Junshan Island is a small island in Dongting Lake, Yueyang City, Hunan Province, facing Yueyang Tower. It is a national 5A-level tourist area. The famous poet Liu Yuxi once wrote, "Looking at the green mountains and waters of Dongting Lake from afar, a green snail on a silver plate," referring to Junshan Island. At the entrance of Junshan Island, there are statues of Liu Yuxi and Li Bai, as well as their poems about Junshan Island. 🏝Junshan Island is also known as Love Island because it is associated with two love stories. The first is about Emperor Shun and the Xiang Concubines. Emperor Shun died during his southern tour, and his two concubines, Ehuang and Nuying, were heartbroken and died of grief. They were buried on Junshan Island. The Xiang Concubine Temple is known as the "First Temple in Jiangnan." The front hall of the temple is dedicated to Emperor Shun, while the back hall is dedicated to the two Xiang Concubines, Ehuang and Nuying. Next to the Xiang Concubine Temple is a bamboo grove, reminiscent of the saying, "A single bamboo with a thousand tears." 🏝The second story is about Liu Yi delivering a letter. The third daughter of the Dragon King married a scoundrel and was abused after marriage. She transformed into a shepherdess and asked Liu Yi, who was on his way to take the imperial exam, to deliver a letter for help. Liu Yi, with a sense of justice, gave up the opportunity to take the exam and delivered the letter for the Dragon Girl. After being rescued, the Dragon Girl married Liu Yi, and he was made the King of Dongting by his father-in-law. The front hall of the Dongting Temple on Junshan Island is dedicated to Liu Yi, the King of Dongting. 🏝Walking past the bamboo grove, you will reach the tombs of the two concubines. The tombstone was inscribed by Peng Yulin, which leads to another love story, the love between Peng Yulin and Meigu. Peng Yulin, also known as Xueqin, was a famous scholar and talented person in the late Qing Dynasty. He was skilled in both literature and martial arts, and was the founder of the navy. He was elegant and extraordinary, and his only confidant in life was Meigu. After Meigu's death, he spent the rest of his life painting 100,000 plum blossoms to commemorate their love.
