Junshan Island

Junshan, formerly known as Dongting Mountain or Xiang Mountain, is a small island in the 800-li Dongting Lake, 15 kilometers away from Yueyang city. It faces the famous Yueyang Tower from afar. The total area is 0.96 square kilometers, consisting of 72 peaks of various sizes. It is listed as the eleventh blessed land in 'Taoist scriptures' and is now a national key scenic spot and a national 4A-level tourist area. Junshan is rich in cultural heritage and has many scenic spots and historical sites. It is said that Junshan Island has 5 wells, 4 platforms, 36 pavilions, and 48 temples. Generations of literati have written essays, composed poems, or inscribed stones about Junshan. Here, you can find the earliest cliff carvings discovered in China, the 'Starry Sky Map', Neolithic sites, the touching love testimony of the Spotted Bamboo, the tombs of the Two Concubines, and the Well of Liuyi, as well as the Seal of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the Shooting Jiao Platform of Emperor Wu of Han, the Flying Bell of the Song Dynasty peasant uprising, and Yang Yao's fortress, among others. Since the Tang Dynasty, poets such as Li Bai, Du Fu, Huang Tingjian, Xin Qiji, and Zhang Zhidong have all visited Junshan to enjoy its beauty and express their feelings, leaving behind countless timeless masterpieces. Li Bai's 'Lightly brushing the clear lake to reveal a jade mirror, the painting is none other than Junshan' and Liu Yuxi's 'Gazing at the green snail in the silver dish from afar, Dongting's mountains and waters are verdant' have greatly contributed to Junshan's fame. The Spotted Bamboo grows around the tombs of the Two Concubines. One of China's top ten famous teas, Junshan Silver Needle, is produced here. The largest island in Dongting Lake, listed as the eleventh blessed land in Taoist scriptures. Covering an area of 0.96 square kilometers, it boasts beautiful scenery and numerous historical sites.
