[Okinawa] Yomitan Village: A spectacular castle ruin that you can stop by in no time

Zakimi Castle Ruins, a World Heritage Site near Yomitan Village and Yachimun Village, is one of the "Gusuku and Related Properties of the Ryukyu Kingdom" that were registered as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2000. Zakimi Castle was built by Gosamaru, a famous general who played an active role during the war-torn "Sanzan Period" and worked hard to stabilize the country after the unification of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Although it is small in scale, the intricacy and beauty of the stonework of the castle walls and gates are said to be the best among Okinawa's castles, and the oldest stone arch gate still standing in Okinawa was also impressive. I went during the day and enjoyed the lush, majestic scenery, but I also recommend going in the evening at sunset.
