A charming island off the east coast: Turtle Island

Whenever I travel to Yilan, I am always captivated by the small island in the distance that resembles a turtle quietly resting on the sea—that's Turtle Island. Located off the coast of Toucheng, it is one of the most iconic landmarks of Taiwan's northeastern coast. I first saw it while strolling along the beach in Toucheng, where the island's outline was clearly visible. Its turtle shell and head are vividly shaped, a true masterpiece of nature. If you choose to take a boat to the island, you can experience a circumnavigation tour, admire sea caves and sulfur vents up close, and even have the chance to spot dolphins—full of surprises!
