Ge Garden in Yangzhou

The Ge Garden gets its name from its former owner, the salt merchant Huang Zhiyun, who loved bamboo. The garden was planted with tens of thousands of green bamboos, and the bamboo leaves resemble the Chinese character "个" (gè), which is half of the character for "bamboo" (竹, zhú). However, he was neither the first nor the last owner, and the fates of several owners were not very pleasant. The last owner, from the Li family, simply donated it. Although it has also suffered from war, most of it has been preserved and is a very distinctive private Suzhou-style garden.
