The Battle of Ma Ling

The Ma Ling Mountain EL+92 has always been a strategic location that military strategists vie for. The battle of Ma Ling saw the duel of wits between Sun Bin and Pang Juan: In 343 BC, the state of Wei launched an attack on the state of Han. Han sought help from the state of Qi, and the King of Qi sent Tian Pan as the commander-in-chief, with Sun Bin as the military advisor, to lead the Qi army in support. At Ma Ling Mountain, the Qi army ambushed the Wei army, resulting in the execution of Crown Prince Shen and the death of Pang Juan, leading to the annihilation of the Wei forces. This battle caused the state of Wei to lose its hegemony, while the state of Qi formally rose to prominence.
