Yunhua House in Malingshan Village, Xingning, Guangdong

Yunhua House, also known as 'Doctor's Residence', is located in Liuqianli of Malingshan Village. It was initially built at the end of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty and completed during the Xuantong period after eight years of construction. It was built by the descendants of Liu, the founding ancestor of the Xingning Liu family (from the third branch), and consists of a three-hall and three-horizontal square compound with extended wing rooms on both sides forming a 'fighting door' structure. The building covers an area of nearly 3,000 square meters and has been standing for over one hundred and ten years. The descendants of Yunhua have proliferated to the twenty-eighth generation, growing from the initial dozen or so individuals to hundreds today, signifying a thriving and prosperous family. Yunhua House is grand in scale, exquisite in design, and made with superior materials. The entire structure features gilded wood carvings and beams with intricate details, exuding an imposing presence. The three bold and vigorous golden characters 'Doctor's Residence' on the top of the main door shine brightly. In front of the main door is a rectangular threshing ground used by the clan for drying grain and daily activities. In front of the threshing ground is a large semi-circular pond with clear, babbling water flowing into it. Yunhua House faces Xingning's famous mountain, 'Shenguang Mountain'. The atmosphere is filled with scholarly elegance, and the family has a long tradition of valuing education and producing talented individuals. Members of the family excel in various fields such as industry, commerce, literature, and medicine, and are well-known throughout the surrounding ten miles and beyond. The scale and luxury of Yunhua House were rare in Xingning at the time, and thus it was well-known among the older generation that there was a Doctor's Residence in Liuqianli of Yetang Malingshan Village, which was highly praised. In 2011, the Yunhua clan raised hundreds of thousands of yuan to renovate the ancestral house. In 2017, the Liu family raised another 300,000 yuan for maintenance.
